Another franchise duly destroyed. A developer's job is never done :)
He didn't have to do shit Sakamoto fucked it up enough
If a million people cared about Metroid it wouldn't be dead.
I care
That's why I don't buy nintendo since the wii
If all the people in the world could have a little bit of commitment it would be a better place
If they could go bankrupt for the sake of justice
>it's a Sup Forums pretends a series isn't insanely popular because it doesn't bring in pokemon numbers level
>If a million people cared about Metroid it wouldn't be dead.
This.
There is a small diehard set of fans that would shit on anything. Honestly Nintendo is doing everyone a favour not encouraging them.
>Crossbow Training
If you ever needed proof of Miyamoto's insanity it was that game.
That game was fun. I wish Nintendo did more arcadey spin-offs like it.
Is there any point in the timeline you can make games now?
I guess you get a game to slide between Prime 3 and Metroid 2, but it would be a tight squeeze. You could do pre Metroid 1 but what's the point?
>anuses
>buckle
god damn is everyone on Sup Forums a fucking mong
How about a fucking post fusion game already
For me it was Wii Music during E3 08 that convinced me Miyamoto had gone senile.
>lights dim
>this plays
youtube.com
Tanabe is just as destructive as he is, but unlike Sakamoto who is just an outward force for shit, Tanabe is just critically retarded and has retarded ideas.
>... NINTENDOLAND SWITCH!
Who to kill Sup Forums?
Tanabe or Miyamoto
>isn't insanely popular
>barely sells over 1 m
>best seller was a FPS
Ok.
>lights dim
>someone comes out with the two pieces of the switch controller and begin playing violin
>wii music 2
Kill Sup Forums instead.
Miyamoto and Tanabe make good games.
Taneba made a shitty spin off game, Sakamoto eternally fucked mainline
MP sold 3 million, am close to that
Tanabe can redeem himself he just wasted time on a spinoff
Miyamoto ruined PM so him
>MP sold 3 million
Right, because GC fans were starved for games and it's an FPS.
Moving the goal post doesn't help you
>Miyamoto ruined PM
lol
>ruined a series by making suggestions that the team ended up taking too far
Miyamoto also had nothing to do with Super and that was fucking dogshit. IS managed to make a platformer that is not fun.
>a single anomaly proves the series as a whole sells well
>despite MP3/Trilogy selling poorly on a larger installbase
>Despite Fusion selling poorly on a larger installbase
>G-goalposts
>nobody want another thousand years door
>reveals he is standing on the tablet like the balance board
>Wii Music Fit
Super is not shit just not as good as 64 and ttyd
I would say it's less flawed than ttyd as well it's highs just aren't as high
What would posy fusion even be about. Fusion closed out virtually all of the main story.
Ridley is dead, pirates are dead, federation is essentially destroyed, Samus is brokenly OP now, and all the metroids are dead.
They'd have to either create a new story and characters or do a generic asspull to bring it back in line.
It's more likely that fusion will be retconned out over a fusion sequel.
>Metroid Prime 4-6 never
>federation is essentially destroyed
Where did you get that? You destroyed 1 (one) research facility, they still have the rest of their infrastructure intact at the end of Fusion
>Pirates are dead
See above
>Ridley is dead
Hasn't stopped him before
>Samus is OP
Just like she is at the end of literally every game?
>games that have continually sold less and less
>Metroid Prime 3 couldn't meet 1.8m on the fucking Wii
Nintendo is not a charity.
Yup Sakamoto played it smart by calling Other M an experiment that could succeed or fail. If it succeeded, Other M's direction would have been the new direction for mainline games, but thankfully it failed and now Nintendo is looking to return the main series to it's roots as a 2D game. Tanabe is so stupid that he will continue the direction of Federation Force.
I don;t see why Fusion is the last in the series. It never does anything really conclusive.
>Metroids
Yeah like the last two times she made them extinct
>Ridley
Already confirmed to be a clone. A clone of an night unstoppale monster to be precise.
>Pirates are dead
Never mentioned or implied in fusion. They're just there.
>Enemy of the Federation
Fusions' ending states that Samus was willing to sit through any court marshals or tribunals the Federation would throw at her if somebody would listen. Unless they literally plan to kill her she's not going to become fugitive anytime soon.
Taneba made a game with a shitty direction that he plans to stick with, Sakamoto made a shitty experimental game which he already had plans for if it did well or not. Since it didn't do well now Nintendo is going back to the series roots, traditional style (2D).
>we're getting another good Metroid guys, just you wait
Boy, like I haven't heard that before.
Other M confirmed he was permanently dead, Fusion Pirates are clones from the Bottle Ship. Next game will most likely have an AWOL Samus doing what she does best, exploring alien worlds and blowing shit up. No one is going to sit through some boring ass trial m8.
>We think that F-Zero has nothing to give
>but thankfully it failed
>commercial and critical success
>failed
Good
This. Metroid doesn't sell. Why would any major publisher make a metroidvania in 2016?
It didn't sell a million, monkey. IT FAILED! Meaning we will never get another piece of shit like it. Nintendo already stated beforehand that they are returning the main series to 2D since that is what Sakamoto and his team are good at.
I'm content with just letting the series die on a good installment, and then never touching the series again. seeing the alternative (letting it be rehashed and turned into experimental garbage like Other M) no longer seems appealing.
Even though Nintendo hasn't given us a faithful Metroid, AM2R more than makes up for it, all flaws aside.
Nothing in that article indicates it wasn't a commercial success.
It showed that the interest in Metroid is gone.
>Nintendo already stated beforehand that they are returning the main series to 2D s
How to support Metroid:
>buy Return of Samus and Super Metroid on a new 3DS
If enough people do this, Nintendo will make another game.
>AM2R more than makes up for it
Eh, I felt it was really obviously western made and missed a lot of what was good from classic Metroid.
You mean Prime doesn't sell. Every 2D Metroid sold over a million except Zero Mission, which could be blamed for releasing the same year as Metroid NES Classic for GBA and the DS , along with the fact that it was a remake and not a sequel to Fusion.
The Prime series always barely sold over a million with the first game being an exception because of the NGC console bundles.
>Reggie wondering why the game underperformed
>t-that doesn't mean it wasn't a success
K
>Every 2D Metroid sold over a million except Zero Mission
Yes, back in the 80-90s Metroid (barely) sold (especially in comparison to other Nintendo games).
But we're not discussing the 80-90s.
>forgetting those two interviews both in 2014 and last year
Every freaking time!
Takahashi: "So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them."
kotaku.com
Tanabe: "I'm the producer of the Metroid Prime series, and [Metroid series co-creator] Yoshio Sakamoto is the one in charge of Metroid itself. I'm not sure when he's planning on making such an announcement so I can't speak for him."
eurogamer.net
What?
Ridley can easily be reconstructed from his parts in fusion
The federation is not destroyed at all only that one fleet, and they're pissed at Samus
Cloning is now a thing as well
>Metroid Fusion (02) didn't sell well
>Metroid Prime 2 (04) didn't sell
>Metroid Prime Hunters (06) didn't sell
>Metroid Prime 3 (07) didn't sell
>Metroid Prime Trilogy (09) didn't sell
>Metroid Other M (10) didn't sell
>Metroid Prime Federation Force (16) bombed
(all these bombed in Europe and Japan)
>W-why doesn't Nintendo make Metroid?!
No we're talking about how the 2D games constantly outsell their 3D counterparts. Prime has constantly been on the decline since Prime 2 and chances are looking at sells history, a new 2D game (preferably a sequel to Fusion) will sell over a million compared to a Prime 4 since it's wanted more.
I literally don't care about Metroid, so I wouldn't care.
>speculation
That's way different from what you said, which was an assured implication. This reeks of "ehhh".
>No we're talking about how the 2D games constantly outsell their 3D counterparts
>Fusion sold less than Prime
???
Is that why that planned Prime style game was already well into development for the 3DS?
you wont trick me faggot
I choose to let one of my favorite franchises die before nintendo fucks it up once more
>>it's a Sup Forums pretends a series isn't insanely popular
It isn't insanely popular. No one outside of a small dedicated group of fans even know who Samus is outside of people who fap to her and those that see her in Smash.
Not to mention it's impossible to please that small group of faggots.
>Make a 2D side scroller
>WHY ISN'T THIS A GOOD 3D METROID WITH 10/10 GRAHPICS?
>Make a 3D Metroid
>WOW OTHERM 2.0 WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE A 2D SIDECROLLER?
Nintendo doesn't give a fuck about Metroid or its fans because there's no demand and it's impossible to please the little demand there is.
Every Metroid game apart from Zero Mission and Hunters has broken 1 million copies. The only ones that have broken 2 million are the original and Prime 1, if I'm not mistaken. The fuck are you on about?
Like I said in another post, Prime 1 only sold pass 2 million due to the GameCube console bundle. without that I expect the sells to be much lower.
And it stunk to high heaven. So there's no way they're "returning the series to its roots" when they have no idea what those roots even are.
And Metroid Fusion did so poorly that that drop must be massive for that argument to work.
The current evidence is: (in the 00s/10s) All Metroid games sell like shit
I "just" want Nintendo to revive Metroid, giving us a new first-person Metroid in the Prime style, a new 2D Metroid, then go on from there, experimenting with the series and trying out new things, without betraying the gameplay, atmosphere, and tone that has made the Metroid series what it is. I "just" want a new 3D FP (or third person, OTS) Metroid that brought some things from the 2D games into 3D, like the Speed Booster, faster gameplay in general, less puzzles, diving under lava, and so on. I "just" want them realize the potential of the Metroid universe and do justice to Samus Aran's character. I "just" want them to go all out and give us shit like a Metroid comic book, maybe a Metroid cartoon series, and so on.
I realize that all this is easier said than done, but holy fucking shit, Nintendo. It's been fucking YEARS since Other M. It's been years since Prime 3 and I didn't even like that one. We've gone about 12 years without a new 2D Metroid. What the fuck are you doing, Nintendo?
Didn't Fire Emblem get popular because of Smash (and marketing)?
It isn't insanely popular, but Nintendo has demonstrated how Smash can be used as a proxy to give a series more exposure. Enough to make an unpopular series a "main series".
Really, the wait wouldn't be so bad if they at least told us that they understood what Metroid is supposed to be about. Other M said that Nintendo would rather have the story be more important, whereas Federation Force pushed for a mandatory co-op and multiplayer integration. As if Metroid really needed any of that.
I didn't know the Prime series was considered "traditional Metroid". If Tanabe states that Sakamoto is the one in charge of "2D" games key words "traditional style and 2D" then don't you think that means that Sakamoto saw how bad his piece of shit action game did and realized that the main series needs to return to its roots as a 2D game to repair the damage done?
>All Metroid games sell like shit*
*1-2 million copies, apart from a remake and a spinoff
Ice Climbers are still nobodies though. Not even good enough for 4.
>1-2 million copies
[Citation fucking Needed]
Nintendo is stuck in their "WE NEED TO BE 'INNOVATIVE' AND DIFFERENT FOR THE SAKE OF BEING 'INNOVATIVE' AND DIFFERENT!" phase, even though it's pretty clear that just about everyone essentially just wants Metroid Prime 4 and/or a regular new 2D Metroid.
>Metroid Fusion did so poorly
>Metroid Fusion 1.60 million
Troll harder bitch
>oh god, I have literally never learned how to use a search engine
>Sakamoto saw how bad his piece of shit action game did and realized that the main series needs to return to its roots as a 2D game to repair the damage done?
Now user, what you just said is an example of common sense. If Sakamoto had any common sense, Other M wouldn't have been made in the first place.
This.
For the last 20 years people have told Nintendo to stop 'rehashing' so now they're terrified of using the same template twice.
Not that Metroid sold well enough really to justify more games though.
It already came and went, user. :)
But of course, you wouldn't know that. Because you're not a real fan.
It's a bit more complicated than that. It took over a decade for FE to become a real powerhouse of a series in the west.
>less than 2m on GBA installbase
>those Japanese sales
>those European sales
>good
Ok
>vgchartz
If Miyamoto had any sense along with Aonuma, Mario Sunshine and Zelda Skyward Sword would have never happened. But look what happened after we got Mario Galaxy series and Aonuma is finally listening to the fans with Zelda Breath of the Wild.
exactly Metroid died but Indies took control
this is the reason why the community around metroidvania is still alive. there at least a dozen of good-to-exelent metroid-eske games made by indies
the genere is not dead, just evolved into other less popular form
>it's from a website I don't like so it doesn't count :^)
Then learn to type words into google and check any other source.
So fucking what it still sold over a million and made Nintendo's top sales list, so fuck off.
>For the last 20 years people have told Nintendo to stop 'rehashing' so now they're terrified of using the same template twice.
The sad thing is, they never seem to analyze their IPs and recognize WHEN they need to innovate and when they should (reasonably) stick to a formula.
I think ALBW and BotW are probably the only two examples of them mixing things up right. Everything else has been more or less a disaster.
And just look at something like F-Zero. We've partially never got a sequel to GX just because Miyamoto isn't sure how to "innovate" it. Dude, it's a fucking racing game, it doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, no pun intended.
There isn't even an attempt from Nintendo to revive Ice Climbers, though. Kid Icarus, on the other hand, did get enough exposure through Smash to net it decent sales.
Merit where it's due, though. The game's good in its own right.
>Aonuma is finally listening to fans with BOTW!
No.
A lot of the things BOTW is doing have their roots in WW, TP, and SS. BOTW simply would not be possible without those games laying the ground work for it.
You don't have a source?
>those european sales
>those japanese sales
>s-so what
AM2R is probably gonna be the last traditional 2D Metroid game we're ever gonna get
And Nintendo fucking tried to kill it
...
>they never seem to analyze their IPs and recognize WHEN they need to innovate and when they should (reasonably) stick to a formula
Because the market can pump out 20 cods or 20 asscreeds with the minimum effort to innovate and nintendo gets called worse than hitler for 2 2D Marios.
Nintendo doesn't "NEED" to innovate any of their series really, most fans would be fine with polish and more of the good stuff. The market has given them this mandate.
>being this retarded
Jesus god
Still looks better then those games, I forgot to mention Wind Waker to Twilight Princess after the backlash WW received with TP being the better game for it.
>3D world is bad
>A link between worlds is bad
This is why we hate Metroidfags.
>You don't have a source?
I gave you one. If you want more I think this would be a healthy exercise for you to learn to use google. Try typing words like "metroid sales" into the box and see what comes up! You can find all kinds of things using google!
3D World was alright, I'm more talking about color splash, party and sports.
ALBW was good too, but it wasn't all that new or bombastic, Zeldafags defend Skyward Sword.
>I gave you one
>vgchartz
No, you did not give me a source.
Here's the real problem: Nintendo 'fans' are under the impression that everything that Nintendo makes HAS to appeal to them. The idea that a game might not be made for them is alien and scary, so they try and pretend that the game is 'shit' despite never actually playing it.
This is really common with new IPs in particular.
There is a reason why nobody invited Metroidfags to Nintenparties.
Fuck off Cody
