I work for 12 hours with a 15 minute break to eat my hopefully toxin-free food. There is no internet because DARPA was never funded and thus wasn't developed. I drive home to greet my daughter. She is mixed-race and is not allowed in most shops because there is no civil rights act. She is illiterate because there are no public schools and i cannot afford to pay tuition. As she runs to greet me, a man jumps out of a van and snatches her and drives off. I call the private police company. "Please note you will be charged $19.95 for this call". They give me a $23,000 quote to investigate my daughter's kidnapping. I only make $600 a month and politely decline. I walk to my local heroin dispensary because heroin is legal and plentiful. A heroin addict ambushes me and stabs me. A nearby private police contractor can't interfere because i am not in their network. I can't afford to go the hospital and they wouldn't treat me because there is no law requiring them to treat me. I slowly bleed to death in the gutter. MegaCorp inherits my house because of the fine print in my work contract. As i slip into the abyss, i reflect on what an amazing life i had without that oppressive government.

In this respect it is actually quite similar to a democratically elected government - both of them have to convince a significant population that (true or not) they are providing something of benefit.

Private enterprise is based on repeat business. I didn't realize this is something that even needed to be said. If what you provide is not useful you will quickly go out of business, assuming of course you haven't lobbied an out-of-control welfare state to subsidize you by this point.

Well, kind of. The issue is the government vests itself with powers that business simply does not have. The usual result over a long enough period of time is essentially the people who produce little value using their vote to elect those promising to plunder and redistribute the wealth of 'the other' who has supposedly wronged them. All of this put in much nicer words of course but essentially that's what it is.

Why is the working class exploiting the capitalist class through government immoral but the capitalist class exploiting the working class through hired thugs and bought government inaction morally acceptable? Why is ebil socialism "plunder in much nicer words" but unrestrained capitalism isn't? They're both scenarios where people are forced into relationships that cause them material loss due to scenarios they have no direct control over.
Why do you think private enterprise would not simply assume the powers of government in a society where government power was extremely restricted? If the government doesn't ban private ownership of nukes I guarantee you some companies that can afford it will get them - and then they have the same diplomatic leverage as actual governments; the dividing line between private company and government has disappeared.

Your assumption that the U.S. will always remain a global superpower to the point that it can freely choose to ignore international demands is unfounded. My assumption that it is at least possible that a future U.S. will be subject to foreign pressure that will result in changes to the country's internal affairs is based on the fact that that is what has happened, throughout history, to numerous countries, even ones like the Ottoman Empire that used to be incredibly powerful.

Neocon essentially means one who ascribes to progressive/modernization or "improvement" of the world through military intervention and foreign policy rather than economics.

The term was ascribed after Bill Clinton became president. Bill brought to the table a flashy new idea for liberalism that was sort of proto-progressivism. Improve the world, essentially.

Before Clinton the republican platform was "stale" and they had no real issues for people to feel strongly driven to vote for them thanks to Reagan. So in essence they stole the left leaning progressivist platform but applied it to militaristic behavior.

This is how neocons became associated with the idea of conservatives moving further left due to a belief that the core demographic could no longer handle the religious conservatism and nationalistic elements, though this wasn't really a thing until recently when the neo-cons adopted the "we love Mexico" platform and truly stood out as traitors to their original political ideology.


In this sense, Obama was a neocon even under the democrats, because his foreign policy was still very much extroverted.

Actual liberalism ideas of progressiveness are far more introverted and focused on the nation rather than the world around it.
