I like them all for different reasons.
MG is fun as all fuck, even with the silly bosses and shit. Level design was god tier for a game of that era.
MG2 has an amazing story that builds up from what happened in MG.
MGS is my favorite. It's the ultimate 80s action movie.
MGS2 is basically Evangelion for videogames.
MGS3 is a pretty solid James Bond movie
MGS4 is an amazing ending for the Solid arc, ties up every single detail you need.
PW was an unecesarry expansion to the Big Boss lore, but whatever. Building Mother Base was fun as fuck.
V is the pinnacle of the stealth gameplay, even if it was watered down by the horrible world desing. The story was a good way to close the loose ties between MG and MG2.
MGR is everything a Raiden focused game should be.

As flawed as they are, i like them all.

It could have benefited from a better choice in subsistence missions, c2w is a joke considering you don't need to leace the helicopter.

V's gameplay isn't even the pinnacle of its own series, it takes elements from Peace Walker while improving some obvious elements that couldn't work on the PSP and completely screwing up the others.

Calling it a pinnacle of the stealth gameplay is also retarded, not when games like Chaos Theory exist. V's gameplay is seriously overrated and I have no idea why people on Sup Forums always feel the need to push the "iz best in series" meme.

3 was still great, but after 2's story blew my mind I was hungering more of that cyberpunk setting. The damn delay on the PS2 loading the camo screen frustrated me as well.

No, it's actually pretty fun. The problems start happening after a few hours when you realize the systems they've set up have nothing more to offer and it's literally more repetitive shit from that moment forward.

V also isn't anywhere near the best gameplay in the series, it can be cheesed fucking hard and doesn't offer anything to balance that like even Ground Zeroes did.

It's a direct sequel to PW and also has "tactical espionage operations" subtitle. So, yeah, it is mission select. There is free roam too though.

Mission select, except there's no hard difficulty setting like in Ground Zeroes (except that some missions get rehashed later on with "finish with no starting items" or "game over after being seen" conditions tacked on) and the variety that GZ/PW had is completely lacking.

Also, you have to keep in mind that if you're a long-time fan of the series and enjoyed the previous games, V will probably give you a fucking aneurysm. It feels like a reboot in nearly every regard.
