Ok Sup Forums I'm looking for a game that resembles the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. I'm about to finish the third game and I'm already nostalgic.
Those should be the criterias I'm looking for. I know that no game except the stalker ones cumulates them, but it's still my guideline.

- Open world / sandbox
- Semi-realistic weapons (with bullet drop, weight, ammo weight, ammo types, weapons that actually serve different purposes)
- Dark / gritty setting
- And mainly : huge comfy nomadic feeling. This criteria surpasses the others.

Google gave me retarded suggestions like GTA so I'm turning towards you.

You'll have to find a middle ground since there's not a single game which will offer all of what you want.

I'd recommend Marauder, it's not even a FPS, but atmosphere, combat and slav feeling are spot on.
Here's a nice site where you can get the basic idea of how it's like:
lparchive.org/Marauder-Man-of-Prey/Update 02/

Just get Call of Chernobyl.

It's an open world sandbox STALKER with all the maps from all the games and the Lost Alpha put together in one big ass game.

Boiling Point: Road to Hell.

>- Open world / sandbox
Yes.

>- Semi-realistic weapons (with bullet drop, weight, ammo weight, ammo types, weapons that actually serve different purposes)
Yes. No bullet drop and the gunplay is horrible.

>- Dark / gritty setting
The opposite of Chernobyl. A sunny, southern American country.

>- And mainly : huge comfy nomadic feeling. This criteria surpasses the others.
Yes.

Additional bonus:
Buggy, glitchy. UI is a mix of Deus Ex and STALKER. Faction system is straight out of GTA 2.

I just love Boiling Point and want to make it a flavor of the month.

Looks cool actually. Is it like Commando ? Mission by mission ?

Hm. I'll look into it

Yeah it follows a linear mission basis, but there are optional sidequests and a house/market hub. You also get some companions further (up to 3) for some advanced operating.

The map is huge indeed. But what keeps you playing ? Is there some sort of faction war, or even scenario ? Or just roaming - which is awesome anyway

You can start as part of any faction you fancy and do some missions for them or just roam around

If you're willing to drop open world from the requirements, the first Deus Ex should hit the spot

Sounds like you want fallout 3/4.

Are there any mods for it? Mods that fix the horrendous weapon models? Improve the dated visuals? Pls I do like to know that

Heh, you got me at buggy and glitchy. How horrible is the gunplay ? What can you do then ?

Actually f4 is on my wishlist, 15$ max, even if I have doubts. And I loved new vegas, but I'm looking for less comedy and more realistic gunplay.

Also would someone recommend Arma / operation flashpoint games ? Or is it too mp / too militaristic.
The sandbox side (huge island if I am not mistaken) seemed interesting, with a potential comfy side

Try out the fallout new vegas mod dust

The sandbox is empty. If you aren't operatering theres no reason to play it.

Speak of ARMA though. Never Played Flashpoint.

DayZ had a lot of the atmosphere STALKER has, but I'm not sure how it is these days.
Metro 2033 is not open world, but it's similar in a lot of ways.

I'd say Gothic is closest thing to STALKER, at least in its approach to player freedom and implementation of RPG elements. First game is kinda dark and sad, i mean it's convict colony. But well, it's not stalker-like atmosphere, it's medieval sword fighting.

You can try New Vegas. While it's not as calm and "gray" as stalker, it should fill the void for a while. Also, you'll probably start wanting something like fo1/fo2 after New Vegas.

>gta 2 faction system
Not OP but you sold me.

You'd like it, but for the nomadic gameplay you'll have to resort to mods like DayZ and Breaking Point or the wasteland MP game modes.

Witcher 1. Obviously it doesn't have guns, but all the other criteria are spot-on.

I'd recommend Metro too, good game with great gunplay. Not open world at all but it has that same gritty atmosphere as stalker.

Arma 3 singleplayer is greatest suprise i even stumbled on in videogame industry. Story is really solid, shit that's happening is absorbing and really dramatic at some points, world is enormous, game also lets you do things in many different ways.

While it's definitely not as accessible as STALKER, it's surely worth a shot.

Also the gun porn and visual customization is pretty nice as well.

Looks great gameplay wise

No, just a major patch which makes it playable. It's a somewhat obscure game.

Search the interesting world and play the game. Since I'm not a fan of sci-fi or fantasy, finding a game with that "realistic" setting and FPS/minor RPG elements was a blast.

>Arma 3 singleplayer is greatest suprise i even stumbled on in videogame industry.
I want to believe you, but I'm sceptical.
Could you post some of your favourite games so that I have an idea regarding your tastes?

Since newest version you can
>join any faction you want and do missions for them
>do ironman(lol thats stupid)
>do campain that will make you travel all over the zone

Try Far Cry 2 on the hardest difficulty (infamous).

>How horrible is the gunplay
Very arcadey in the logic behind it. Weapons jam like crazy, but that's done on purpose. Only those that you pick up from other people do that, so it's to encourage you to buy your weapons "new" or repair old ones.
What makes it feel bad is the fact that it's implemented in a weird, unrealistic way. Your weapon would "missfire" and you'd lose a bullet, but automatically the next one might work. So in the end it feels like your mouse is not registering clicks.

The 9 factions all have different allies, which can really effect how you move through maps if you want to avoid massive fire fights. They also have different predilections for Soviet vs Nato weapons, which may lead you to also have a weapon bias until you can just buy all your ammo. If you want more distinct goals, a story mode was implamented recently for a majority of factions.
As for faction wars, there is a mod that modifies your friendliness/hostility to different factions depending on what type of stalkers you kill. Otherwise, it's static.

Did they actually add in the campaigns?
Last time I tried playing it was really barebones, just generic randomized fetch quests and such.
Guess it's time to give it another go.

Far Cry 2 + Dylan's Mod.

A few fellows have already mentioned Metro, definitely go for that. It's not open world, but for fucks sake.

Also, mod the fuck out of the Stalker games and play through them again, they completely change.

Yeah they did, it's mostly big fetch quest but still nice.
Go get the latest verison and STCoP Addon.

STALKER, Gothic, oldies like Fallout1/2 or old adventure games, Witcher series, racing sims, HLs, Portals, Warband, UT, Q3A. I don't really discriminate genres, so list is pretty random, things from the top of my head.

Don't take my word, watch youtube gameplay chunks or pirate it and beat first three missions or something. Story-wise, shit hits the fan right after beginning, so if you're capable of getting interested in that (which isn't obvious, this game still needs some love and/or autism), you'll probably love it from the start.

Fallout 4 plus WotC + SMR + RO

You are welcome.

They did. They also populated the labs.

I'll do as you say and check out some videos on YT.

Looks awesome, I loved far cry 2 back in the day. I'l buy it now for 3.70 CHF. Very good idea.

Not on steam and barely on pirate bay sadly.
And this one is not even on piratebay. Any tips ?

arma 3 has custom SP and MP missions like this

possibly some of the best feeling guns in an game, though only thing is it doesn't really feel gritty though day z or zombie mod could change that

also fallout (nv/4) and far cry (2/3). the first 2-3 assassins creed games are comfy as fuck. maybe try l.a. noire too. it isn't quite what you're looking for but it's a supremely comfy open world game, and is quite gritty at times too.

>You are welcome

Who would ever thank you for recommending garbage, let alone Fallout 4?

>And this one is not even on piratebay
Search for Man.of.Prey-PROPHET, or buy on steam if you are too dumb to pirate.

Yes, there's a warfare mod which turns the zone in a giant quarrel between various factions. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated for CoC 1.4 yet so you'll have to wait. It will probably take a few good weeks as it's being rewritten. It will most likely come with an excellent weapon mod as well. Definitely keep your eye on it.

I did not know it was on steam, I admit I did not even looked it up.
However I can't buy it - there is not even a price tag
And on pirate bay I was looking for "marauder", thanks for the tip

only a patch and some slight modifications
pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Boiling_Point:_Road_to_Hell

Luck UP mods on moddb.
There is Dylan's Mod that changes a lot of things and there is some Graphical Enhancer or somehting like that.

Different user who also wants to try CoC, it has 3 different "sponsored" weapon mods for it, should I( get all 3 or only certain ones? Are all 3 even compatible simultaneously?

>Boiling Point: Road to Hell.
What is it with Ukrainians and this type of game?

>they instantly know where to shoot as shown by the tracers
Eh.

One nuclear plant explosion wasn't enough

No they are not.
STCoP has best quality.

well, stalker stealth was never anything to be proud of

which is a damn shame, this game is simply made for stealth approach

>hey, sergiei, what are our finest export goods
>i dunno, sadness and excessive violence?
>great idea man

Morrowind, New Vegas and Stalker are the holy trinity of comfy gritty open world atmospheric games.

Alright, downloading STCoP, what all does it add/change?

Metro, not sandbox, no weight on ammo and equipement, but just trust me, if you like STALKER you like Metro too. Its a linear game with cinematics inbetween, but its very polished and detailed compared to STALKER, stealth actually works, weapons are fun to use and gas masks are very claustrophobic and well done.

>be ukranian mercenary
>shootout in a small concrete complex
>advancing with my nakama
>hear a loud noise behind us, several cykas and blyats and the sound of feet on stairs
>then an explosion

to me it makes perfect sense they start saturating that shit with gunfire

Also is it worth getting DrX Dynamic faction relations and/or the Outfit Addon?

More guns, better models of vanilla guns, proper gun names, new ammo types etc.
Dunno never used it, I guess Dynamic Faction Relation could make game interesting.

Also get the outfit add on and item soup. There is a read me in item soup that tells you the order you should install everything to make them work together.

I was never able to get my Fallout 4 to feel like Stalker, but maybe you could.

I cant find anything called item soup, where do you get it?

Gorky 17 is is turn based fallout-stalker hybrid, pretty old game but fun if don't mind shitty graphics.and if you like shooting muties and other different unique enemies/bosses

Ammo is pretty scarce so you cant use good guns on random trash, story is cheesy but had pretty great twist at the end.

>huge comfy nomadic feeling
/vr/ here. Have a few sort of out of left field recommendations you might like:
- Fallout I and II if you haven't played them already.
- Midwinter. Hard to get into today but open world, tough and nomadic. Nuclear winter setting.
- Vangers. An open world quest-based science-fiction car combat game made by one of Russia's weird game studios. Set in a hilariously gritty post-human universe. Uses voxel graphics and claymation for the characters.
- The Ur-Quan Masters (HD). One of the best games ever for that comfy nomadic feeling. It isn't realistic at all, though (think dark comedy space opera). Has a time limit because an apocalypse of sorts is in progress as you play. You'll thank me later for this one.

Gorky 17 is more a Fallout-Parasite Eve hybrid, really.
>pretty great twist at the end
It's a twist ending, I'll give you that.

why not ? could you explain ? It'd be a dealbreaker

I recently played and loved f1 and f2. In my opinion, the absolute best games I played. And for a reason, it actually lead me to the stalker series.
The others look indeed very /vr/. Maybe I'll try them.

What's SMR

My idea of a comfy game is when you end up in your village / hub / faction base, you sell your loot, you buy ammo, you repair your stuff, you try to have a round number of items (15 band-aid, 15 rad-away, 15 medikits), and even try to have a good-looking inventory. Then you go to a beautiful scenery near the base a make a hard save.
Yes, this is borderline OCD. I am alone in this ?

If the graphics put you off The Ur-Quan Masters, give the fan-made HD remake a look.

I haven't played it yet but I hear modded Far Cry 2 is the closest thing out there, although maybe not in atmosphere

>RGD grenade
you're better off

I think the original looks better. I am not afraid of graphics.
But Midwinter looks cool (lol), I suppose I'll have to learn how to use DosBox - better late than never

why ? they have larger radius

>The Ur-Quan Masters
never heard of. sounds cool. am downloading.

my memory of them is getting them nice and centered and seeing the enemy not even stop in their stride, then thinking "oh, they must all be low, I'll spray them now" and them still not dying. maybe they can be useful against dogs or something idk

Betrayer kinda sorta hits the marks. It's less open than CoC, has some pretense of realism to its colonisation-era weapons, very dark, and not comfy at all, though there is a fair share of roaming and pretty nature.

This.

lol, midwinter is getting an hd remake

You should try Underrail if you liked f1 and f2

trust me, there's nothing quite like the STALKER series. Tons of series with bits and pieces similar to the Stalker, but no other game quite manage to assemble the parts like it.

Luckily, there's a fuckton of mods to keep you occupied. I'd recommend AMK1.4 for SoC, The Faction War 3.8 (or newer) for CS, and MISERY 2.11 for CoP.
Here's a neat chart.

Betrayer is great. Made by ex F.E.A.R. devs, top quality FPS feel with mostly rudimentary weapons and an oppressive atmosphere.

ARMA 3's singleplayer is just bizzare. It wants to be CoD, but it can't. That missions where you have to steal a fuel truck or some shit was amazing, if the truck you tried to steal gets destroyed prematurely, then the mission adapts to it instead of failing you straight away, then I had to use the timescale to skip and limp a kilometre to ambush a fucking convoy and assassinate a colonel or something with only some explosives and a pistol. Took me 2 hours and savescumming since I didn't want to restart the mission because I found out I had been saving incorrectly. 10/10.

I would go finish the singleplayer but I can't be fucked, it's on the backlist. I thought the game would be more realistic instead of the second act making you into a guerilla fighter god with 300+ confirmed kills. Vietcong is more realistic than this.

B-but you're Carry, you have to be the god of war

I won't bitch about lack of realism, i was infuriated by random people spotting me from afar in stealth-y missions anyway. Mission where you're moving towards friendlies without equipment is both one of my favorite missions and most infuriating mission in entire game.

>crawl through half of the map
>difficulty set up forbids savescumming, so last save was, like, fiveteen minutes ago
>hide in the house
>hear engine running
>peek out
>AFV stands one centimeter from doors
FUCK

>Misery 2.11
You fucked up.
Only good Misery is 1.2
If you want recommend him good CoP mod at least try.

What's wrong with Misery 2.11 ?

i just found out about armstalker, is a stalker mod for arma, it has the map modded over to arma along with npc model. Currently only is Russian, but they are working on English release, Currently there are some Roleplay servers. I am really impressed. I can't wait for the English release.

Something I will definitely keep my eye out for, I would love to join role play stalker with 64+ people on a server.

vk com /armstalker_online
youtu.be/bd2bc40VBkw

Yeah you have to tweak the AI yourself or else they will snipe you from 780m when you're blended into grass, it's insane.

If that mission you're talking about is the stealth mission you do when washed up on the beach (the starting of the batshit insane 2nd act AKA guerilla warfare) then yeah, that was EXTREME fuckery. Stealth is nonexistent, the AI doesn't understand it, I sprinted from house to house. I peak out a window and I get killed clean. You have to go up the hill, turn sharp right, and stick to the water before the additional troops come, then you have to make your way to the rendezvous point without knowing where it is aside from the vaguest fucking clue.

Would play again.

No, I did not.
>Only good Misery is 1.2
Too similar to vanilla, IMO. Got boring very fast.

CoP barely has any good mods.

Operation flashpoint singleplayer campaign and expansions are criminally overlooked, playing on expert was the best experience i can recall in a fps game
>those moments when you are the only survivor of your squad and you have to fucking crawl 2 kilometers through active enemy patrols to reach the extraction point (the 4x game speed option helps)
>as a resistance member steal ruskie supplies and even tanks and then destroy their armor
Shit was so fucking cash
