Is this thing worth $20?
ELITE: DANGEROUS
You a fan of grinding?
if you've got some weed, a flight stick, and a decent soundsystem
Depends on the type of grinding. I was in a big EVE Online alliance and flew dreads, so I guess?
Okay, well, the difference is here you will grind while actually flying a ship, but chances are you will never interact with another player.
Is it really that bad?
It's space trucking with combat.
You know the thing they lied about in nu male sky? That you can see other players but the universe is so big that it's actually hard encounter anybody.
Well here it's true. Unless you aren't grouping, outside of some frequently visited stations you wont find other players.
Whew. For a minute I thought that you couldn't see them at all. At least the big universe thing makes sense.
I love euro truck simulator 2
will I like this?
yeh
It's nothing like ETS, don't listen to retards parroting IT'S ETS IN SPESS.
Yes, take cargo or people from one place, then ship them to another. It's pretty comfy and you can watch some shows while playing.
If you like chilling out just flying from once place to another then you'd probably like it yeah.
The first time I jumped into an O class star it was awe inspiring. The same thing happened my first time seeing a black hole.
When you're not paying attention and you jump into a close orbiting binary star system that starts to fuck up your ship you'll jump out of your chair and scream.
But maybe that's me as someone who has an enthusiast interest in astronomy.
But a huge part of the game is space trucking.
And if you can't into the old Elite/X type gameplay of delivering goods from a to b while checking where you could make the biggest dosh selling them it probably isnt a game for you.
But its really well made space trucking and i'm into that kind of shit so i don't complain
Put that towards your Star Citizen fund, which will either fail gloriously or be great
I actually buy it today, and even if i play just 2 hours or so, i can tell you that play it with a flight stick and a throttle stick its highly recommended.
The inmersion is awesome btw
Got Elite because i was fed up waiting for vaporware the game and wasn't disappointed.
But than again, i'm into space trucking since the early 90s.
I got kinda bored because I was just in a loop of doing bulletin board missions back to back, didnt know what was going on, and would die then have to work for a nice ship again. Been doing this for twenty hours. Is it more fun if I buy the expansion? It seems like they added a lot. Or am I just retarded?
>But its really well made space trucking
Nothing about it is well made
>"living" economy is fucking broken
>haul TEXT STRING from A to B
>stare at flat galactic background for days
>HYPERSPACE LOADING SCREEN HYPERSPACE LOADING SCREEN
You know a better one?
>Is it more fun if I buy the expansion?
If you were a fan of Mako missions from Mass Effect. The rest is filler """content""".
A better solution to flying (and seriously fixes like maybe 40% of Elite Dangerous) would be if you're allowed manual jumping, so you can slingshot and bypass star systems to get there in a fraction of a time.
The downside is if you run out of fuel prematurely or stray off course, you can be in FUCKING DEEP SPACE. STRANDED.
You REALLY don't want to fuck around with manual flight during a jump, but it's a necessary evil to use if you want to not be bored out of your mind flying and get shit done sometime today.
Freelancer: Dicovery has actually interesting smuggling, EVE has a player controlled economy, so your brainded hauling may actually mean something.
Or are you implying that having no contemporary competitors makes this shitheap good?
They need to marginally reduce supercruise accel/decel, allow jumping to far away binaries, do something with slow and stuttery sc transitions.
What is """filler"""?
You can minimize the numbers of jumps you'd have to make... but that doesnt come into play until you got at least a ASP explorer
Freelancer is a great game, but it did more an arcade approach on the whole thing. Its like comparing Burnout with Gran Tourismo
And eve isn't comparable at all because here the flight simulation is the main aspect of the game.
But hey, they could do a lot more interesting content, because despite doing well in what it does it could do a whole lot more to keep players interested.
Everything they've added so far sans planetary landings.
Surprisingly, the best features and qol improvements are also available to those who didn't waste their dosh on a season pass.
The thing about E:D is that the devs cow to the kickstarter backers.
There's a private section of the forum where all the ultra diehard 40+ year old grognards who've been playing the original elite all post.
Every single smart design decision that would actually benefit the game is constantly shot down and argued by them because it doesn't fit with their "vision" of the game.
They want people to grind for hundreds of hours to afford a half decent ship. They want the game to be as "realistic" as possible in a game with magical fantasy sci-fi FTL jump drives. But they don't notice that part due to cognitive dissonance.
Why do you think people refer to the official forums as "the brown sea."
Because it's just a sea of fucking shit.
Well buddy, you said you love to haul.
In that case the flight model or how you control the ship is completely irrelevant since in ED you haul in a straight line while alttabbing to pornhub.
Combat is neat tho.
>that feel when user types a lengty post about the whole forumdad situation when you're already aware of all that
Eyy lamo, i feel you breh.
I'm someone who's way too deep in Star Citizen to bail but this sticks out as something really weird to me comparing communities.
Elite seem to be people who think original Commodore era Elite is the best thing ever.
Star Citizen was actually pitched as Squadron 42 first, so it would be Wing Commander The Spiritual Sequel 2. Star Citizen would be Freelancer Two Dash Zero. But what you get is this weird generic autist vibe. People who argued over the Tevarin reveal being either not birdlike enough or not eldritch enough.
I'm guessing the root cause is Elite being a lot smaller by comparison franchise wise while SC is crawling with Goons and Furries, being instigated by general sci-fi power hungry leches starting class divides based on pledge totals. It's not really tied to the franchises at all.
The main difference between elite and SC is that elite is released and doing ok, even if it's a little light on the content.
In SC you will never now if the 2000 ship designs they sold will ever be modeled.
When SC finally releases and is good i can still switch, until than i don't mind the 30 bucks i spent for ED+Addon to do a few hours of comfy space trucking every other week
???
And how does that affect the community? Was Elite Dangerous's community identical in cringe before release in the ~1 year before?
Remember when the devs wanted SRVs to not have a fuel mechanic because it would be a better gameplay experience?
The grognards bitched for weeks about it not being realistic. The devs caved and added fuel to the SRV.
Remember when the devs wanted ship transfers to be instant?
The grognards bitched for weeks about it not being realistic. Now ship transfers is fucking pointless because it costs too much money and it takes less time just to fly the fucking ship there yourself. What was it? something about "shrinking the galaxy" when it's a galaxy of fucking HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF STARS.
They're also constantly bitching about mission rewards. They feel like missions should pay fucking nothing so when the players find a way of making a lot of money really quickly they cry and cry till the devs patch out and de-incentivize it.
They nerfed Sothis and they're going to nerf draconis 17. It's really just a case of "fuck you, got mine" because they have all the money and they don't want other people to have money.
I bought it and loved it (apart from being too much of a nothing on your own) but once horizons came out, doesnt even start, tried everything. Others have this problem too so thats a consideration.
>Goons and Furries
Isn't that the same thing really?
Anyway, it's how industry has-beens do buisness.
First you milk the old nostalgia whales for super phat early pledges, then you show the younglings some top notch visuals and give collector autists something to collect.
ED failed on two last points.
literally playing it right now. amazing in vr and 500 hours went by fast
>Freelancer is a great game, but it did more an arcade approach on the whole thing. Its like comparing Burnout with Gran Tourismo
>And eve isn't comparable at all because here the flight simulation is the main aspect of the game.
>he never found the kill engine key in freelancer
Heh, remember the recent shitshow with ship transfer, when Sandro first said FUCK YOUR TEDIUM WE WANT A FUNG GAME SO IT'S GONNA BE INSTANT and then made a 180 and fucking caved for dads demands?
And now this whole mechanic is crippled with high price/long wait timesink into redundancy.
I'm still mad.
man these guys are fucking idiots. You hang near cleve hub in Eravate and youll see so many people youll be sick of em
I find this funny because Braben wanted sublight supercruise and the travel polls said no.
Were the alpha level backers completely different people or something?
>sublight supercruise
ABSOLUTE MADMEN
sublight is literally the most useless concept ever. It was only ever shown in the launch trailer during the combat scene
Braben's kind of weird but he means well really. He has all of these massive far reaching ideas about what elite is and could be that can never truly be implemented in a way that's actually FUN for the player.
But the grognards don't want fun, they want a second job ferrying space shit for a 2 credit profit every 1k LY.
