Best fight is Cleric Beast.
>Probably the first boss you find
>The source of that terrible screeching you hear
>Will cave your shit in and make you unlock the doll so you can level up and get stronger
Cleric Beast is pretty important on a lot of levels. He's amazing.
Aesthetically is very impressive. His audio is incredibly good. Mechanically he is an extremely fair boss with excellent visual and auditory cues that come out fast but not so fast as to be impossible to react to. Is extremely aggressive and almost feels like a beefed up version of Gascoigne which feels nice since he's the introduction to the dlc bosses. No retarded grab attacks with broken hitboxes. Little to no 1 hit kills depending on VIT. Rather punishing on fuck ups. Also is extremely well designed around Bloodborne combat in that he'll fuck you if you try to back off to safety but aggressive play is rewarded with viscerals or increased damage. Can't (as far I as know) be visceral cheesed with gunshot parries. Second form is almost a completely different boss fight rather than 'idk he roars and glows or something and then does more damage with the same moveset'. Unfortunately he ruined Failures and Maria for me for how boring and easy those fights were but Laurence and Orphan made up for them.
Jus cuz there's a cutscene in the middle DESU
As much as I liked Cleric his arena really sucked in that it's likely the first boss you encounter and you're immediately informed of how awful the camera is at dealing with large bosses as well as you can easily clip into and get stuck on the terrain around the map. He does feel like a good soft introduction to Bloodborne but I've always found Gascoigne to be the absolute pinnacle of non-tutorial mandatory first bosses because he completely exemplifies Bloodborne combat and punishes the shit out of people trying to play it like Dark Souls.
My favorite bosses so far are Ebrietas and Martyr Logarius. I beat Ludwig second try and was kind of blue balled after I won because I heard he was super hard. Haven't gotten farther than that in the dlc.
Ludwig is like a reverse Gascoigne, where Gascoigne goes from a human fighter to a ravening beast. Ludwig regains his humanity and reason over the course of the fight. Pretty cool shit.
I found Gascoige a little gimmicky, with the whole music box thing. Plus you can just cheese him by using the grave stones or tossing molotovs at him. Hell, just run up the stairs and fight him on an even surface. The fight loses a lot of difficulty that way. At least with the cleric beast the only way you're going to fight him is the normal method.
What's the WORST boss though? Personally I disliked the witches of Hemwick. It's not clear that the boss is FUCKING INVISIBLE unless you find her by accident, so you're going to be killing those lanky fucks for ages for no reason. And even then, it's not a hard or engaging fight. It's basically hide and go seek with a timer since they can resurrect each other. Lanky fucks move too slowly to catch you if you run everywhere, so you literally just ignore them. They serve almost no purpose, except to confuse you the first time you find the boss
So I'm guessing it's Ludwig's skull that Vicar Amelia is praying to?
laurence's i think. that's why touching it gives you the vision of laurence talking to the guy from the college
Best fight is Blood Starved Beast
I never thought of that. Pretty neat.
I really like Logarius and he's a great (possible?) homage to False King Allant I've found that sometimes he can get stuck in a really shitty cycle of him dropping the sword, doing his jump attack, then immediately dropping the sword again if you destroy it. Really turns the fight into a chore. Had the same issue with the dlc bosses so far; did Ludwig on third or fourth try and Laurence on second. Was really disappointed with Maria with how much she gets talked about for how easy she was. Still working on Orphan though. I assume this ease with bosses is because my SKL build has just been melting everything else as well.
I've always felt like the music box was a gimme for the people who couldn't handle his last phase. He is a little easy to cheese though but I have a hard time judging the boss on that when in shit like DeS you could trivialize Maneaters by just shooting them through the fog. I think that speaks more of the players utilizing those things than the boss itself.
For non chalice bosses I'd probably either agree on Witches because they were really lackluster and if you got unlucky they can get into an infinite paralysis spell cycle causing a force quit. I accidentally did them with 0 insight first time and didn't know they summoned. Paarl is another contender because of his aoe spam and the fact you're fighting the camera more than him. For Chalice dungeons the undead giant with chain flails is prob worst for me though because it's so tedious.
I wouldn't have a problem with Logarius if not for the bullet bending. That annoyed the fuck out of me.
>Hardest fight: Laurence NG+
>Best fight in terms of themes and setting: Maria
Ludwig is literally a mid tier
I actually prefer Maria but he is the best boss fight because of music, combat, cinematics, design, the way he delivers his lines and the tragedy of his figure and words. Orphan is harder though.
Sister Friede is at the very least 10 times better in every possible way
I fought against Ludwig for 18 hours straight on my LVL4 NG+6 run
Beating him gave me the strongest sense of achievement I've ever felt playing a video game. It was so fucking good.
And then I went to LVL4 NG+7 to try Orphan again and I killed Ludwig first try for some reason. Blew my mind how far I had progressed skill wise

Hes just amazingly well made altogether.
>amazing visuals and particle effects
>that contrast between the horrible beast and the somewhat noble sword wielding knight he turns into
>even his screeches turn into human grunts
>the fucking OST
>the moveset is varied and unbelievably fun to fight against
Its not hard to see why hes the best in a lot of peoples minds. I think hes the best boss I've ever fought against.
kek
good one, user
I liked the Witches. The atmosphere of it was creepy and it spooked me. After killing the first mad one and seeing the health bar didn't go down I realized they must be invisible.
I think the Witches, like many gimmick fights in the series, are fucking amazing the first time.
Then loses their appeal extremely faster after that.
He's the only boss in the game who sticks around for a chat, and you learn a great deal about the intentions of the early healing church and its hunters.
He's also the only boss that you can't outright kill—if you pass his check wearing church Hunter garb, you can cheer him up and he lies down for a nap.
Seriously, Ludwig isn't just a great boss, he's one of the most important characters in the game and they do such a good job of explaining why the church got started in the first place.
Unfortunately I'm having more trouble with the Living Failturds then I did with his horsin around
holy shit thats impressive user
Yeah, once you know the gimmick and what to do, it's a very easy, straightforward fight. Luckily you never have to fight them after the first time.
i actually died on the witches
t. 7 vit

The build-up and reveal of him is GOAT. Hearing all about him the whole game while using his fancy looking greatsword, I imagined something totally different. Finding out what actually happened to him and then seeing the horrible truth for yourself was awesome, gave me goosebumps. The moonlight greatsword scene leading to his second fase sealed the deal, making him one of my all time favorites.
