Sun and Moon is possibly the best single player story pokemon game.

just got back into the series since 2003. i liked pokemon black. i did not like pokemon x. will i like pokemon sun? or should i try black 2?

The SOS battles can be incredibly irritating, if that was better I'd love the game completely

The beginning of the game was a bit tedious but besides that, I loved every minute of it. The game was a real 180 degree from the borefest that was AS/OR. Even the story got me excited.

I still don't know if I like the game or not.
It just feels... Too different.
I feel like the formula just doesn't work as well with all the changes surrounding how the story is delivered.

I've played every single Gen and I can say I haven't had this much fun since I first played Gen 2. It's a good game. Not a perfect game, but it is very buzzword.

I'm about 6 hours in and I've barely seen any new pokemon, the start is really slow and tedious. Feels easier than any other game too. Not impressed so far but I'll keep going. Is there a point where it starts to improve?

There's never less cutscenes and you're not the main character. Pokémon variety gets a little better and then it's back to dugtrios, golbats and raticates.

The beginning is dragging too much but it does get better.

How does the QR stuff work?

It gets better by the third island, but not by much.

BW has cutscenes when you enter a route and about to face a gym. In a few cases your rivals try and fuck you up after a route or you have a scene after beating a gym leader.

SM has cutscenes when you enter a route, get halfway through said route, and when you finish the route. It also has cutscenes when you enter a city, look around the city, and about to leave a city. Not to mention before, during, and after a trial.

What makes SM so much worse is the amount of time it takes to finish one cutscenes even when mashing A. The text is slow, the animation is slow, and there are way too many cutscenes in general.

Cutscenes have nothing to do with railroading and handholding

Sun left me angry an unfulfilled just like OR and X. I want another one thats on par with HGSS. Anything less is unacceptable.

This is also the Gen that introduced a Pokedex that talks to you and tells you to walk forward to reach the quest marker. I'm not sure how much more handholdy you can get.

Compared to other RPG it's still nothing. And the cutscenes are purely story related later on in the game compared to explantory shit at the start.

Sun and moon is my favorite Pokémon game. It was actually a challenge due to how much I switched my team around and the aesthetic was unbeatable compared to the older ones. The post-game is pretty damn big even if it's mainly collecting stuff. Ultra beasts and the ultra wormhole lore was intriguing to me (especially as of late due to my quantum physics classes). All in all greatest poké experience in my life.

Boys I havent played since platinum. Do I lose anything by starting at Sun, in terms of evolving pokemon. Like are these "Mega evolutions" in the new game? Also is there anyway to transfer from plat?

Ruby was litterally my first video game, I got it when I was 6 and just fell in love so for me that gen will always be #1. I loved the battle frontier so emerald tops by just a little.
I played 2nd gen after and it was incredibly good, but the remakes top it by far despite not liking the graphics all that much, it took everything the originals had and made it better as well as making pretty much every mon viable, I finished the game with a beedrill in my team for fucks sake.
Fourth was pretty bad, I beat diamond once and never picked it up again, until just last year when I gave plat a try and found it to be truly excellent.
Black was shit to me, I didn't like how it tried to hold my hand at every turn, telling me exactly where to go and what to do right off the bat. The battles were easy as hell and my underleveled pokemon never actually fainted even in the gyms with no items. I got to some city when the girl's pokemon got jacked and quit, it was just too boring.
First gen is real good but it never really had any replay value to me, I beat FRs elite four the second time and there was just nothing left to do. It was really dissapointing, I can see how it made such a great start for the series though.
Ive never tried BW2 and im using my brothers old 3ds with a bad jailbreak or whatever so I cant play sun or moon till this weekend when I can get him to fix it, so I have no opinion on those.

Sun and Moon has become my favorite too but there's still so much they can improve on. Roadblocking has been a constant problem for the series and I don't think it stung for me more than when I tried to explore Malie City and normally shy Lillie basically prodded me back into the garden.

I'm enjoying Sun a lot. It can be slow at times with all the railroaded cutscenes and shit, but otherwise it's really fun.
