Honestly it's hard for me to get that excited. Season 1 was one of my favorite games ever but it feels like Telltale has just been treading water at this point.

Season 2 and TWAU were both fun, but they felt like they were jumping on the bandwagon instead of telling a story that demands to be told. Combine that with the mechanics not evolving that much and shit gets stale. Not that every game needs to revolutionize the formula or anything but when Season 1 came out the mechanics felt tailor made for that particular game. Reusing it for other games makes it feel less special.

I choose the lone wolf ending in Season 2, some I'm hoping for a hard-as-shit Clem who takes no shit having survived the ordeal of living on her own while taking care of a baby.

it's not just that, Season 1 had way superior writing and a self conclusive story arc. Season 2 was a mistake, they should have gone with a brand set of characters.
As Lee we felt that we could make a difference and Clem was worth it, because she was cleverly written and very well voiced.
Nobody wants to babysit the baby now, everyone feels that Clem would be better without him.
That and as you said, the mechanics grow stale and the feeling of having an impact thinner and thinner (let's be honest, the illusion was pretty much gone in Season 2 already, except the ending)
