PlayStation 2

Since /vr/ doesn't allow 6th gen, can we have a thread dedicated to arguably the console ever made? This shit honestly has probably the best library ever.

What are your favorite games?
What are some good, overlooked games?

>pic related is my shitty stack I picked up recently.

PS2 is probably the most overrated system of all time

Thank fuck they've finally stopped printing uglly GREATEST HITS labels this gen.

>arguably the console ever made
hmmm

I think my PS2 library accounts for the largest part of my backlog -- out of the all of the games I've accumulated for it I think I've only played through 10 or fewer of them.

Good games are needed first

What would be your choice user? The only other console I could see being a legitimate contender would be the snes, and imo the ps2 was better.

Dark Cloud was pretty good

snes, genesis, and ps1 are better.

Oh shit. I fucked up.

I love the games of that era regardless of system.
Most of them happened to be on the PS2 because of the sheer quantity alone that followed a machine that was also one of the the first and most popular affordable DVD players on the market. But as a console by itself, I dislike it.
In most cases I'd rather have been gaming on a Dreamcast, GameCube or an Xbox.

>Shinobi
>ZOE2
I like you

youtube.com/watch?v=VDNGagnfSfs

Even though it has it's faults my favorite has to be the .hack GU games

SNES>PS1=PS2

to each his own

Just finished Echo Night Beyond on Open Ps2 Loader and I'm a few hours into Way of the Samurai. Its amazing how many fuckawesome games went totally unnoticed on this console.

darkwatch fun spooky fps

yeah and because of that, those games dont get made anymore

>What are some good, overlooked games?
Stella Deus

>impale a dude
>beat his friends to death using his corpse
A god among beat am ups.

Co op right?

That looks neat as fuck. Art style is nice. There are so many games I've never even heard of.

technically /vr/ allows some of 6th gen because the dreamcast fans wouldn't stop their daily shitposting until they got their way.

i remember it well, they were trying to claim the dreamcast was 5th gen or something competing against the sega saturn, ps1, and n64.

>that demo you played for hours/days/weeks, but never bought the actual game

what's her name, Sup Forums?

ZOE is so fucking badass. Even with the cheesy choice acting, mega jaggies and frame rate issues.

They've let it be known time and again they don't want PS2/GameCube/Xbox discussed there. I didn't feel like bothering.

Plenty of PS1 games, notably Jersey Devil, Einhander, and Blasto
Also, Parappa 2

well at the time it was exclusive to ps2 budokai 3 was my favorite game. its the whole reason i bought a ps2. up your arsenal was sick to, the online was very fun.

Strangely I bought DQVIII just for the FFXII demo and never bought the actual game. Also it turned out that DQVIII became one of my favorite games.

>Ps2 is 16 years old
>Xbox and GCN are both 15
In 06 people were saying how the ps1 was retro, it's time to add the rest of 6th gen to that list. I'm honestly getting pissed at this point

no its because /vr/ is smart enough to know that the dreamcast was the last console to be marketed towards hardcore gamers (like myself).

>Jersey Devil, Einhander, and Blasto
All on the same disc, which I also played the shit out of. My nigger. Did you enjoy Omega Boost as well?

I think so I remember it had multiplayer

Some of my favorites:
Frequency
Kingdom Hearts 2
The Sly Cooper trilogy
Guitar Hero 2
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

you must of not been around during the early days of /vr/ the autism from the dreamcast threads crying that the dreamcast was 6th gen and thus not allowed was explosive.

a few times well over half the threads were people typing in all caps saying DREAMCAST IS 5.5 GEN AND DESERVES TO BE HERE!!!!

Their argument is that "retro" has more to do with design and aesthetic than age and nothing else should ever be included. It's my opinion that that argument is fucking retarded as hell.

I can't tip the fedora hard enough

>talking shit about /vr/ on Sup Forums

lol why dont you pussies go and make a thread on /vr/?

Sly>jak>ratchet
Prove me wrong

We tried the same thing with the other 6th gen consoles with no luck.

I was thinking of Playstation Underground 2.2, which I don't think had Omega Boost.
Playstation Underground was the bomb.

I never played Sly but I liked Ratchet more than Jak.

it would just get deleted

to give the dreamcast autists some credit they were persistent and never stopped for months and months and months.

no it wouldn't /vr/ is a slow board

-Victorious Boxers All Stars
-Fire Pro Wrestling Returns
-Contra Shattered Soldier
-Neo Contra
-SOCOM

maybe it would be so slow if gen 6 was added

It really would. In any case the artists would just bitch the entire thread anyway.

Started a PSX/PS2 collection recently, checking out Valkyrie Profile.. Is it worth the buy?
Would emulate but RIP PC

so instead of bitching and complaining why not do something about it? i swear kids these days just want everything handed to them

I've tried to make low key gcn threads with no luck

I didnt make the thread user

Freaking artists, man. Get a real job, you losers.

rly maeks u tink

Please stop bitching up my thread. I posted in the correct board as per the rules. End of story.

Not worth the price but very good. I wouldn't get it for not than $50 and that is pushing it.

>my thread

this is MY thread now

what are some of the ultimate ps2 games to emulate (that can be found easily in iso)?

making a log to finally experience this console.

was going to replay persona 4 but need some other games to play after.

I've never played 3. How is it better than Budokai 2?

Fuck. I meant autists clearly.

Ok. Take it. Gee whiz.

>Sup Forums
>correct board
That's bs you and I both know this belongs on vr this autists need to stop sperging and let us in

Onimusha is a fantastic game and so is Shinobi never played nightshade though how is it

Think of it this way. Once the 9th gen is officially underway (depends on what ends up qualifying for it mainly in regards to Sony and Microsoft), they might let 6th gen consoles in /vr/.

>As per the rules

If you use a top ten list or something you'll miss the beauty of the Ps2. There's Jak/Ratchet/Sly but then you wouldn't get the Soul Nomad or Dark Cloud or Mr Mosquito, Kinetica, Haunting Ground... Experiment. You can download a random iso and there's a 50/50 that it will be awesome.

haunting ground is terrible

Nightshade was arguably even better
You could play as Hotsuma once you collected all the Oboro coins as well, just like how you could play as Joe Musashi in the first one

>no Onimusha ports on PS4
Also, how was Dawn of Dreams and Blade Warriors?

Controls are wiggly, monsters aren't dangerous. That didn't stop the puzzles and atmosphere from being enjoyable for me.

I will always shill the fuck out of Shadow of Rome for it's absolutely delicious gladiator combat, despite the terribad stealth sections.

Get on this shit niggas.

thanks I'll try to find those. I'm sure there will be an iso collection of games out there, haven't looked yet.

I've played all the 'greatest hits' games during the console's lifetime. loved jak and daxter and a lot of the racing games on the console, but I was young and didn't really stray outside of what was popular.

so definitely looking for games that a kid wouldn't get out of gamestop

What I currently have. Haven't been searching for any PS2 games though since PS3 games are pretty cheap.

Also own DQ VIII, but I am currently playing through it so the case is next to my PS2.

A list of some ps2 games

ratchet clearly a best

>ps2 version of max payne

no thanks

>sees list of PS2 games available for PS3
>sees list of PS2 games available for PS4

>TFW no one remembers this game

Oh, man, Super was awesome. One of the best DBZ games (although a bit light on content).

Somehow I think I ended up with more shit than actual games. Xbox library is there too because 6th gen I guess

Why haven't you put Freemcboot on your PS2 yet user?

>Somehow I think I ended up with more shit than actual games
I highly recommend finding a nearby small vidya store that will buy your shovelware. I recently sold a few games I had taking up space and walked away with $50

...

All I need to do is have a freemcboot memory card and I can play burned discs correct? Are there compatibility issues? I really need to do this for games that are really expensive.

In literally every way.
>more characters, particularly movie characters like Cooler and Broly
>game modes are better, story is fairly realistic like Tenkaichi
>best art style
>beam clashes

Plus some other subtle stuff, like if you actually fully charge your Ki you get a monk-esque Ki Up attack boost resulting in you doing 110% DPH, but if you don't maintain your minimum Ki you lose attack strength.

How is COD3 on PS2?

Idunno, I really only burn discs if they don't work on an HDD.

You also need to patch the ISO before playing it on a burnt disc. Google "ESR disc patcher"

Oh boy I can't wait to play videoga-

>bought a fat ps2 on release
>it still works

have you thought about not being such slovenly cucks?

Hmm. I don't have an HDD but I do have the adaptor to connect one. I don't know anything about using them though. Something to figure out definitely.

Just gently wipe the laser with a q-tip that's very slightly damp with alcohol. Did so nearly a decade ago in a fit of desperation and it's worked fine since.

>works for me

fuck off a whole lawsuit happened because of this shit

We have this discussion like all the time man.

It had the biggest library, that is a true claim.

But a lot of the games performed worse than on other systems, and unless you were playing something like Socom the online was a damn mess (even masterpiece games like Resident Evil Outbreak).

I don't usually frequent Sup Forums. Didn't know these were common threads.

Ha, I got most of these for free from people trying to dump their old games at Gamestop, think I know a local chain that might take them though.

Been a couple years since I've played it but no major problems that I can recall. The car missions still suck though, there's only a few levels that are really fun.

Elaborate

gamespot.com/articles/sony-settles-ps2-class-action-suit/1100-6139482/

I loved Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 and 2, but the only way to play online now is through the private server that was made. Offline it's garbage and the original PS2 hardware had 15 second loadtimes between rooms and 30 seconds for cutscenes, so modern SSDs are the best when emulating it.

I really liked the Warship Gunner series. But Koei doesn't make them anymore.

What are some fun local co-op games on PS2?
Champions are good, I heard. What else?

Warriors, dynasty warriors, EDF, metal slug anthology

Contra shattered soldier
Gauntlet

None of you fuckers have said anything about Destroy All Humans 1&2 or Need For Speed: Underground 2
