Stats can be hacked but you might get banned or caught (usually causing you to fail the quest). The quests definitely require a certain skillset but once you get it down the loot is pretty good. Fairly rewarding game all in all, can be potentially hazardous to your health though. Recommended to bring extra armor for the quests, the rubber set works best.
