Thats the PS1 version. You will get 50-80 hours before the end game depending on your play style.

Am I actually missing anything by not playing the PS1 version?

They cut out and neutered the first island of the game. Please pirate it and then jump over to the 3DS version.

If you play it properly ie talking to everyone in town every time something in the story changes, plus party chat after speaking to every townsperson, you will easily get 75 hours

oh god avoid the ps1 version. seriously. they did a great job of getting rid of the endless b/s in the 3ds version

i just finished the alltrades abbey quest is that just the first half of the game?

also what jobs do you reccommend?

3 Gladiators and a Sage

First quarter or fifth, more like.

should i play this if i never played a DQ game?

You will probably master every job with every character before the end of the game so don't worry too much about it

also keep in mind you can only level jobs by fighting monsters that are on the same level or higher, so you can't just grind them out

The story isn't connected to any other game in the series, so there's no reason not to

other than the length, which might put you off

I would recommend you play 4, 5, 8, or 9 before playing 7

It's dragon quest. "Great gameplay" is not what I'd use to describe it.

Yeah. A good chunk of it is complete filler though. Like just straight up "run through this same dungeon again" stuff

Alright, so I briefly played Dragon Quest 1 and 3, and I didn't like them. Is it possible I would enjoy this one or should I just forget about the franchise if I don't even like those two?

It would be a good idea to tell other anons what you didn't like about DQ 1 or 3 first.

...

>inb4 graphics

Didn't really like the battle system. Felt kind of slow.

I don't care about that. I love SNES graphics so naturally I thought DQ3 looked beautiful.

>I was told 100+ hours of great gameplay.

You were meme'd. VIII is better.

fucking cat

did you enjoy DQ: Builders?

Hmm. Battle system speed huh. Well DQ7's 3DS remake's battles go by pretty fucking fast in any case.

I'll say 1 had terrible battle system. Only six spells learned possible.
And if you died half your gold is gone.
Other then that I thought 1 was good.
Still on 3.

I just got a PS4 so I can finally play it.

Gabo/Ruff is the worst Party Member.

I would say to give some of the later ones a try

If you play one of the following: 4, 5, 8, or 9

and you STILL don't like it then I would say forget the series

Why even have metal slime tablets if 99.99% of the time a normal monster spawns?

Put the time in to capture Metal King Slimes just to only ever encounter one as the boss.

Alright, I'll give those a try and see what they're like.

That would be great. If the battle system was just a little faster, I think I'd be satisfied.

I heard DQ compared to Japanese hot baths once

At first it is so hot you want to jump out, but if you grit your teeth and stay in, there's nothing more comfy / relaxing

I agree with that, DQ is kinda slow and some of its systems are a bit archaic, but if you stick with it and get into the groove it's comfort food gaming

> not the generic tsunshit
ok

in the original DQ7 for ps1 he just walked around like a normal person but in the remake he actually rides around on the wolf's back the entire time, it's great

The dog even gets costumes for some jobs like as a shepherd, the dog has a little sheep costume too.
