Well, in all fairness the demo starts you off in a place with some fairly high level enemies. You aren't going to literally be fighting giant sandworms the moment you start it up.

The demo is much harder than the actual game mostly due to it not explaining any mechanics or giving you any equipment. Simply walking outside without changing jobs or buying gear will get you mauled and debuffed immediately if you don't outright die.
