How did Japan go from being the absolute dominating force in video games to barely scraping by to maintain relevancy?

How did Japan go from being the absolute dominating force in video games to barely scraping by to maintain relevancy?

Platinum Games and the occasional not-that-bad Capcom game are basically all we have now.

Did the entire island of Japan simultaneously grow out of games in 2006 or something? What happened?

>Platinum Games

Also I really wish I could read Japanese because I am almost positive there are some radical Japanese indie games that'll never see due to mass media catering to the most uninvested audience of gamers.

They kept designing and making content that only appealed to their own domestic cultural appeal instead of trying to make a more international appeal.

japanese men now work 24/7 because of the declining economy, no time for videogames

They still kinda do the only difference is we never see them outside of Japan because they realized the rest of the world thinks jap games are weird. And the whole SJW movement (which is thankfully slowing down now that we have a president with balls in office) has made them afraid to even dare release them world wide.

They kept focusing on making games with good gameplay while western normies started to just want movie games with realistic grahpics.

Name a game with good gameplay that came out of Japan in the last three years that wasn't Bayonetta or Souls, you can't.

MGSV you fuck

This pretty much, also remember that in Japan video games are more associated with children than in the west.

The declining youth and increasing elderly also plays a role in this.

Yeah but I said game though... that implies it's a full game and not a half-game...

Whoa epic...

Japan was able to take the throne after the game crash but fucked up these few generations by not understanding the market culture

But we got otaku

you'll be very disappointed by what you find user

like how

people started caring where games came from due to the sudden "everything from japan is dumb weebshit" mindset that came near the end of 6th gen

>le video games died in 2007 may may

I blame you. Because you are the cause for that mindset.

The problem is that the west got involved and turned the industry into hollywood2.0, while japan just kept doing what they were doing and ignoring that for the most part

no i am not
i just like fun video games, even if they come from some weird place like guatemala

>Guatemala
Yeah but Guatemala is a Spanish-speaking country and I don't personally like Mexicans very much.

>Guatemala is Mexico
>Canada is USA
>Brazil is South Africa
That's how stupid you sound

>Canada is USA
GIve it time
