What version of Half Life is the best?
Original?
Source?
Black Mesa?
What version of Half Life is the best?
Original.
PS2
Original.
Original, of course.
If you're going to play it, might as well play the original. It's still perfectly playable.
Black Mesa is kinda too little too late. It should have released years ago.
>first person shooter
>with a controller
Original
Goldsrc = love
my nigga
>nobody mentioning the Dreamcast port
Smh you're all underage faggets anyways.
Original and BM excel at different things, both are worth playing. Source is bad.
*tips fedora*
Original.
It WAS released years ago.
Original because Opposing Force and Blue Shift
*teleports behind you*
heh... nice one kid...
*pats you on the back*
>implying I'll play anything made by Gearbox
DO NOT FUCKING PLAY THE SOURCE VERSION
it's fucking broken to all shit
Your loss. Opposing Force is arguably more fun then the original.
>Early Access Game
Okay then, it should have been finished years ago.
The fuck are they playing at? When it was a free mod being made by a group of hobbyists I could understand that remaking a whole game it's going to take forever. But they've been charging twenty bux for this shit for the last four years and it's still in fucking Early Access.
Early Access should be removed, it basically translates to 'pay us for this half finished game so we can get your money then bail'.
did the black mesa team ever finish Zen?
never, ever
I don't get why people say that BM is released too late. it improves HL1 quite a lot and manages to look nice. the only complaint is the jewery with xen and 20 eurobucks on steam
Opposing Force is worth it. Shit's on par with HL1, if not outright better.
What's wrong with Source? Outside of the new water clashing horribly with everything.
No gibs. It's not really a HL experience without gibs, lots and lots of gibs.
And transparent water makes ichtiosaurs less scary, which is a huge shame.
fuck man.
black mesa is the best, coming from someone who finished the original on hard six times. original is great too but it's in how the encounters are built up. the tactical situations in Black Mesa are honestly the best, the pace and the complexity of the combat are just perfect. I could not believe how good that game turned out.
But Black Mesa has the retarded Source combine AI, while HL1 AI is actually challenging.
>Black Mesa has the retarded Source combine AI
BM has completely different AI that was also rewritten for Steam release.
>AI is actually challenging
AI in FPS games doesn't exist to challenge you, but to make things more immersive.
Does anyone know if the team behind Black Mesa will remake Blue Shift and OPFOR as well?
it's pretty much the same as the PS2 port except worse framerate, loading and controls. Decay is way better than Blue Shift anyway.
But Blue Shift was shit.
Maybe by 2030 they'll have started work
What do you mean no gibs? There's tons of gibs. You must be German.
At the end of the day, black mesa.
Sup Forums's hatred for early access games has led to newfags decrying it as shit but it's still the best version of the game. Almost all of it's changes are for the better.
After what happend to BM I really don't want them to remake the addons.
It would probably take a decade, only release in early access for 20 dollars each and the games would still be lacking content since they cut out parts that were "too difficult" or "too complex" in the originals.
Fuck them.
Wasn't the soldier AI on hard before really annoying? I only played the free release but I remember them just insta-shooting you before you had a chance to kill them. It basically meant every encounter with them would result in you taking damage.
nghl
goldsrc version black mesa is an entirely different thing
you can play this as a mod as well as the co-op missions
Black Mesa adds enough modern touches and cuts off enough of the old fat that it's the best way to experience Half Life 1 now.
You can play it with k+m though.
What did they cut out of BM?
You don't cut fat off from a masterpiece. Would you cut fat off of Mona Lisa?
zen lol
It's almost the same in the original.
Kinda dumb, but oh well.
Large parts of "On a Rail", because they thought the original version was too confusing, also some parts of "Forget about Freeman" and "Surface Tension" I think.
Last time I checked you could get those cut parts through user created mods for BM though.
Calling half-life a timeless classic like that is dumb user, come on.
Also, the original half life's still there. That'd be closer to another artist trying and successfully painting a better portrait of the same woman.
Xen still isn't finished because they can't find a way to make it not dogshit. Or because they're lazy. Or both.
It wasn't because it was too confusing, it was because it was tedious and not terribly entertaining. The rail gimmick ran short far too quickly in the original. You're right about surface tension but I think forget about freeman was mostly intact.
GoldSrc games feel so fucking good to play like god damn yeah it was cool to pick up a box and see that piece of shit move because of physics but who gives a fuck dude
Original w/Sven Coop
I seriously haven't had as much long term playability with any other FPS as I have had with that mod.
Doesn't Source replace all gibs with ragdolls?
>cut out parts that were "too difficult"
BM increased difficulty, if anything, by adding some climactic battles where in original you would just shoot 2-4 grunts and call it a day.
Is it worth buying? Also, is the pay version better than the old, free version?
I thought you were talking about Opposing Force
Half-Life and Black Mesa are two completely different games.
The original is a true classic that has aged exceptionally well - something everyone should play. Black Mesa is an extremely good modernized remake of that game, but already aging poorly when it's not even fully released, and absolutely not a 'must play'. If you're at all a fan of the Half-Life series, of course play it. It may well end up BECOMING the 'canon' version of the game sometime in the next few years, just due to being on Source and thus (more) adaptable to Source 2 / VR.
Half-Life: Source is a joke, second only to Ricochet. It is literally just Half-Life dumped onto the Source engine, with only a lot of bugs to show for it.
supports USB keyboard and mouse
the original
source is shit
black mesa is okay but goes in the completely wrong direction and messes everything up
Black Mesa, if they manage to make Xen as decent as the rest of the game and not a rushed botchjob like in the original that is
