I don't think I've ever played a video game with a brilliant story, but I do like Bioshock 1 and TLOU. Trope-y and predictable as they are.
Then there are those like Ori, or a couple of installments in the Pokémon series that had very generic story but told it in a way that made it come off as good initially.
