Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of Guilty Gear say Smash Bros is NOT a fighting game

animediet.net/conventions/interview-daisuke-ishiwatari-creator-of-guilty-gear

>Video game designer Daisuke Ishiwatari is best known as the creator of the fighting game series Guilty Gear. A multi-talented artist, he not only serves as a video game designer but also as a score composer, having written the score for BlazBlue. He also provided voices for characters in Guilty Gear.

>Your expertise is on focusing on being the best at fighting games. Where do you see the future of fighting games heading?

>For me personally, if the genre were to change anymore, it would no longer be “fighting games.” For instance, there’s Super Smash Bros, and if you were to ask me if that was a fighting game, I would say it’s not–it’s different. But, that being said, I think that within the genre, there are things that haven’t been discovered or invented yet, and discovering those things is part of our mission.

>For instance, there’s Super Smash Bros, and if you were to ask me if that was a fighting game, I would say it’s not–it’s different.

>if you were to ask me if that was a fighting game, I would say it’s not

God has spoken. Smash is NOT a fighting game. It's settled then.

Left - Ishiwatari
>rocks a metal shirt
>looks cool as fuck
>confident smile
>fit as a fiddle
>would hang out with/10

Right - Mori
>fat as fuck otaku
>meek demeanor
>looks ashamed to be there
>messy attire
>waifufaggot otaku
>probably has a bodypillow of Noel

Welp, that explains the stark difference between Guilty Gear and Blazblue.

>god
jews aren't gods user

But nips aren't semetic.

Well yeah, its a competitive brawler.

...

Mori really does looks like one if those faceless fatsos from NTR doujins

Daisuke is cool. COOL!

What about ol' JC?

Yeah, he really does. Never really seen a photo of him till I came across that interview. Really explained a lot of things about BB right off the bat.

FUCKING BASED

>b-but melee
who cares about your opinion, streamboar lmao

we know because it's actually fun

>uptilt to win: the game
>fun

Sakurai already said that, why the fuck do these guys matter when they say it?

>Smash Bros is NOT a fighting game
No shit. It's only the Nintendrone manchildren who think it is.

Because they're more talented devs than Mashed Potato "have you ever made a game" Hakurai.

No the difference between Ishiwatari and Mori are their Lolis.

Well yes he is a big hack, but im just saying, the guy who handles the series already said it wasn't a fighting game a long time ago.

Would rather see Harada handle Smash Bros.

They have children?

>actual fighting devs
>a hack who is going to add Spongebob and Goku next

I'd rather see fucking ANYONE else handle Smash Bros at this point.

The PMDT, despite being primadonnas, showed what Smash is capable of in competent hands.

...

As someone who only enjoyed the original on the 64 as a play with friends game, is there a short version of why the forward progress of Smash has seemed continuously fucked?

I always have to give credit to the fanaticism of true nintendrones to carry the old versions of the game so far.

Good. Smash threads here are pure, concentrated autism from both sides.

Full of some of the most elitist faggots I've ever witnessed. It all makes sense now sense they all idolize that fat fuck Zero.

>let's make something already simplified into something more complex, maybe this time people will take me serious

What do you think he'd say about MVC?

>Daisuke Ishiwatari (石渡 太輔 Ishiwatari Daisuke?, born 14 August 1973 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is an African-Japanese video game developer, illustrator, musician, composer and voice actor.

>African-Japanese

he has nigger blood, no wonder he likes fighting games

He's right. It's a party game.

who?

>short version of why the forward progress of Smash has seemed continuously fucked?

if i had to explain, i would say trying to shill whatever new games are coming out, free promo, and Sakurai just picking his favorite shit while ignore large fan polls held in japanese magazines. Not even Capcom ignores that type of fan input, at least they put one or two popular picks to shut the fans up.

>See this fighting game? It's actually not a fighting game

So this is what true autism looks like

We post Daisuke now?

Nintendo didn't really like promoting Smash competively. They do it know, but only with Smash 4, and not as much as other companies promote their games in that sense.

Melee was on the verge of dying as a scene when Brawl came out and it started getting more popular, until a series of exciting tournaments started showing up and everyone wanted to go back to Melee. Also EVO 2013 helped a lot.

Seems envious that a party game is more popular than his shitty Anime game.

That's not a genre. If it is by all means tell me what makes somethign a "party game".

I've been playing the series since 64. Melee is my favorite.

I think the key problem lies more in Nintendo's overall policy and philosophy past the Gamecube era. Smash is really more of a symptom of all that. When entering the Wii era, Nintendo kinda want for a more casual appoach with all their games to have a much broader appeal. This meant a reduction of difficulty and tons to tutorials in games like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon, as well as a more colorful and cartoony style for pretty much everything else. And in Smash, it meant a dumbing down of the mechanics to make it "fair to players regardless of skill."

The approach Smash Bros took post GCN era was to make the game balanced for different skill levels, rather than a test of skill like Melee was. And this was intentional in both games. In Brawl it was more of obvious with the introduction of Final Smashes, Excessive stage hazzards, and of course Tripping.

In Smash 4, it was much more hidden. things like removing momentum, making counters more powerful, adding the rage mechanic, and making recovery super easy turns the game more into a test of luck and endurance, rather than actual skill.

Melee was the only game to deliberately take influence from fighting games. The rest on the other hand went out of their way to go in the opposite direction.

This is why Melee fans clung to Melee, or made their own mods of that game to replace future entries of Smash.

It really bothers me, because while I love fighting games, and Guilty Gear is my favorite franchise, I still enjoy Smash quite a lot, and while flawed, it's still a step in the right direction for the franchise. And it's upsetting to see the potential in this style of play go to waste. Blame Nintendo ultimately, company went to shit the moment Iwata took over. At least games like Guilty Gear are still around and being bad ass.

Name 5 characters from the entire series where uptilt is their best move.

>someone's upset about their purchase of the new Smash Bros game for N3DS and Wii U
that user didn't even say anything about Masahero Sackurye being a fighting dev or even good at his job. Calm down you fucking fag.

>fighting game "community" is so autistic that they need to "prove" that smash isn't a fighting game

just go play your shit games senpai, nobody cares except you autists.

people who say smash is a fighting game is baiting you fags so hard.

handsome devil

Thats why Goku and Shrek we added when they won the ballot, right?

You are years late, also why do anti-Smash people always carry on these arguments for so long?

Please, raise your hand if smash bros being considered a fighting game to retards matters to you. Like, at all.

If your hand is up fucking end your life. Stop caring so much about shitty bait that is just trying to upset you.

Born in South Africa to two pureblood Japanese parents who were there for work.

>Daisuke is an African

WE WUZ JAPANESE GAME DESIGNERS

There is a reason people knew Daisuke by the name before it was common to be able to name a single person in the dev team.

Unless you're on Reddit or Twitch chat ,no one likes zero unironically, maybe one or two autists.

>implying his mom didn't take the BBC
>implying he isn't half nigger

???

He looks just like any other Japanese street fighter player.

>game developer of one of the most critically acclaimed fighting game franchises in the genre
>talented voice actor
>plays guitar and has his own band
>all of his tracks are featured in his fighting game series and are loved my many
>incredible artist who made his own manga
>handsome

"HE'S AUTISTIC!!" posted \ the Nintendo manchild on Sup Forums, while clutching his Lucina amiibo.

I want Daisuke to be the father of my children

The entire cast of Smash 4? Lol.

Most of them have a utilt that combos onto itself multiple times for 60% damage.

Does he now?

Sup Tekkenfag. How goes DigiPen? Or did you get kicked out for sperging about some other student's project being edgy?

Doesn't matter to me at all, but it seems it certainly matters to you. At least enough to get baited into posting itt.

Kys

t. OP

Post rare Daisukes.

Well, it isn't. I think some people had been calling Smash a "platform fighting game" or something like that.

Melee has a lot of precise and fast inputs you need to do to get different techniques. It needs a more skill than a lot of fighting games out there. I honestly think that most of the FGC people criticizing Melee doesn't even know what are they talking about, since they don't criticize the actual flaws of the game (like the bad balance of the low tier characters, that more than half of the stages are banned or that it has some bad bugs, but it isn't like Nintendo would patch a 15 year old game ).

...

It mattered to you enough to make a big ol' thread about it, which you continue to post in ;^)

What the fuck are you talking about?

More than what you are actually posting or your stupid point you're trying to make by pulling a random offhand comment out of context, what annoys me is that people like you continue to exist and post the same fucking shit I was reading on Sup Forums ten goddamn years ago when Brawl Dojo was a thing.

So no, it's not your point that frustrates me, so much as the fact people are still pushing this fucking non-argument after all this time, and still not making a single meaningful argument for or against. Just parroting the words of more influential words and interpreting them in whatever way allows you to start yet another shit thread we don't need.

Westaboos make the best games.

>Do you play games from other companies?

>DI: Yes, I do.

>Which do you think is better?

>DI: Well, I definitely like overseas games better. If I'm just playing, then do you know Wolfenstein? There's also Operation Flashpoint and Gears of War.

>A lot of shooting games.

>DI: And also Diablo and Oblivion. Fallout 3, as well. I like games like those a lot; RPGs and FPSes. I also really like RTSes like Warcraft.

>That's rare among Japanese creators. Those are hardcore Western titles.

>DI: They don't sell games like Warcraft too often in Japan. (laughs) I go to Akihabara and buy import copies. I have an English dictionary by my side as I play them.

Even the smash series creator said they werent fighting games, right?

Looks like I struck a nerve.

Joke's on you btw. I actually like Smash, and love Melee, especially competitive Melee. I just made this thread to have a laugh.

Oh, Brawl and 4 are shit though. Seriously fuck Sakurai and the retards that pretend those games are a measurement of skill.

SLBC, which I can't really see the connection to.

I have no idea what you're talking about m8. Mind explaining this business to me? Sounds funny.

I'll give it to you straight.

lurk more

You don't even have to go beyond the creator of smash's word. He's said it isn't a fighting game either.

>Being this new

Protip, if it's got a subject talking about how Smash isn't a fighting game, it's by the same retard who, a few years back, made threads every fucking day saying inflammatory shit about anything fighting games while praising Tekken or shitting on/pushing some new game. Another common form of bait was claiming he was in DigiPen and was angry about some school project another classmate would do.

He's just repainting his bait into GG flavor instead of Tekken flavor.

Not everyones mom is a coalburner like yours user

The guy makes some seriously amazing music. I'm not sure why his stuff can't spread among non gamers. Shits rocking as hell. The vocal tracks are fucking great and the vocals just have that roughness to make it work out.

youtube.com/watch?v=iAhHu6wCQI8

This song is entertaining as fuck.

>Nintendo man children

Only Nintendo device I have is a 3DS. I'm enjoying seeing you autists sperg out over a fighting game being called a fighting game though.

Nintendrones need to be wiped off the face of the planet.

if shitposters won't even make the slightest effort anymore, why should anyone make an effort to do anything, i wonder. even the basest hobbies hold no joy anymore, do they?

>In Guilty Gear, there is a character called Bridget. Bridget is considered one of the first transgender character in games. What was the process of creating Bridget, and what inspired you to make the character transgender?
I'm sorry, what? You mean to tell me he wasn't a male all along?

Nice. Does he still voice Sol Badguy?

If you said upair, at least i'd see you had some effort making this bait
But you had to say up-tilt, you didn't try at all.

But OP is nowhere near being formulated as autistically as him.

OP is obviously just some dude taking the piss.

Bridget isn't trans. Just a boy in a girl's outfit.

He only ever did that in the first game.

Unfortunately not. In Accent Core you could switch Sol's voice between his and another actors.

Literally no one else would continue to make such an autistic effort for almost five years.

Oh okay. I haven't played GG. Is there a story mode? How would you have known the character's backgrounds?

I also think some company needs to make a game like Smash Melee but with the competitive side in mind. Yes, Melee has a lot of problems but if you actually take the time to see a good match of that game, you could see that it has a lot of potential.

He was the voice of Sol in XX series too, although Sol had a different voice in story mode.

A real life Kenichi Smith.

GG is my favorite fighting game series and listen closely here you false flagging retards. He doesn't say the game can't be competitive he literally just gives his impression of what genre he would place it in or genre he would not consider it. It could be the most competitive game in the world but in his opinion its not the same genre as a fighting game.

Faggots who are mad are probably just those retards who are like "yeah i'm really into/was good at fighting games i played Smash for years" which should probably hang themselves for saying that gay shit in the first place.

Remember it doesn't matter what genre the game you like it just play it.

>goobercucks
lmao

>he says while we've had autists like barneyfag and based FLAOT
Still not convinced it's actually him.

Somebody explain this to me.

How a game with characters fighting one against other is not a fighting game?

R.I.P in peace Smashfags

Barneyfag's been at it nowhere near as long, and I really doubt it's the original FLAOT posting those anymore.

Same reason quake isn't a moba and gone home isn't an rpg

youtu.be/HIeB8vLx-6M?t=2m4s 2:04

He won't be, elphelt
I will

OP here, nobody is mad about anything.

I'm just taking the piss, making a bait thread seeing how many people are still triggered by that and just having some friendly talk. I like both Guilty Gear and Smash Bros quite a lot. Nintendo fans tend to be very insecure, and I felt something outside of the XCX vs. FFXV threads would be a breath of fresh air.

bridget's entire character story is about not wanting to be a girly faggot any more, he just can't help it because he was raised that way.
I want him to come back in xrd as a fully grown buff dude

>implying daisuke doesn't tap that shit daily to the beat of Awe of She

Yeah

That's not an explanation

>he plays airdashers

LMAO goobers think they play fighting games too. How cute

Bridget is basically what's gonna become of most of they boys of this generation forced into gender-fluidity by their libcuck parents. Daisuke is a fortune-teller.
