Try upgrading your life.

Nothing.

Get a boot drive lad

SSD primary drive, after that- upgrade your processor if you really want to (yours should be fine for a while longer though).

im going to get an upgrade in a few months but for right now im wondering what im capable of playing on this

tetris

Probably RAM. 16 will give you more overhead and games are now "requiring" 8 GB minimum. Plus it's like 70 bucks tops.

SSD would not be a bad option either, especially a decent sized one (500GB to 1 TB) for OS and games.

kek

any brand you recommend for ssd?

MORE DRIVES. MORE STORAGE. ALWAYS MORE DRIVES. BOOT DRIVE MEDIA DRIVE GAME DRIVE MISCELLANEOUS DRIVE WOOOOO

Primarily emulation of 32 bit and lower. Handful of indie titles such as Sperlunky and Undertale.

This might come as a surprise, but you can play literally ANYTHING on that.

With more modern titles, you gotta stick to 720p + low, but just about anything pre-2012 stuff should run quite well.
I've seen people play Crysis 3 on older i7 + HD4000 laptops.

Pic related definitely run on much more underwhelming specs; especially on the DX8 mode if nothing else. DX9 should be fine for ya, and some mods can actually help performance further.

I use Samsung. Write speeds are great. There's probably better out there but it fits the bill for cost to performance ratio.

This. Go for the SSD.

>1080p
Upgrade your shit Monitor.

He can "play" anything but at shitty untolerable framerates.

You are right about 5 to 10 year old plus titles working well.

yeah i should have mentioned that i really dont care if it cant play at 60fps on high . Stalker is a game that i want to try out soon. thanks!

>He can "play" anything but at shitty untolerable framerates.
30fps is more than plenty for numerous titles, and quite a ton of games can easily get over 40 with those specs.

Better have locked and stable "low" fps, than very jumpy "high" max framerates.

Attaboy. This exactly what I meant.

To get the best start with STALKER games, Consult that Stalker Starting Guide pic above,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.

windows

>SSD for OS
is there any major benefit to this for someone who typically leaves their PC on at all times?

I just use mine for vidya and I feel like i'm not missing out

its just an added luxury honestly. if you cant afford it dont worry about it too much. Though some people will tell you its a must have

simple answer: no.
some people are just too ADHD to wait more than two seconds for their OS to boot up.
