I never got why people think falling in love with a pawn automatically leads to that. Ashe's situation was unique in that the dragon was his former mentor. It's more then likely that other Arisen wont face this problem and elect to stab the dragon in its stupid face.

How do you prevent griffins from fucking off and flying away?

I encountered my first one when it attacked a caravan outside of Gran Soren, and it flew away after I did two bars of damage, even though I grounded it by lighting its wings on fire like one of the pawns told me. I tried reloading and it did the same thing, so figured it's scripted that it flies away.

Now I have a quest to fight a griffin in Hillfigure Knoll, and I knew I was close because the music changed to the same one as the previous griffin flight, but that one flew away when I got close to it.

What, the one where the pawn gets to take over your body and start banging your waifu, while you become the next Seneschal?

You don't need to kill the one on Hillfigure, it can be anywhere else including the quest one

If you've done it already, try your luck west of the male thief fort, the bulls can be used as bait if the griffin appears

The shield taunt is another method, but it has never worked for me

The caravan is scripted to fly away, but you can still kill it if you have enough damage output. Same with the one that is a part of the main questline. Regular griffins are just dicks who like to fly around out of range taunting you but occasionally will come down to fight.

Dogma Official Design Works probably one of the better $20 I ever spent.

You fug your beloved in the cutscenes after you beat the Dragon. Meaning you can fug nearly all NPCs in the game.
