just looks like the SF patch, although the color scheme is more for reminiscent of dress uniform colors but if this is from WW1 or WW2 the colors make sense

I suppose it's just a fictional adaption of the 82nd's patch, it sorta looks like it has a stylized sword going up the middle.

the moment I saw it I thought it was a real patch as well, but the more you look at it, seems to be fake / some variation on a real patch

I'm 90% certain that says "Airborne" along the top patch.

The main part of the patch looks like it has a dagger or knife pointing vertically, and that red part looks like it could be a curved "A".

To me, it looks like it's a fictionalized patch clearly inspired by the US Special Forces, which would match their rifles and backpacks being suitible for WW2 paratroopers.

It's probably fictionalized because if you use an actual unit patch, you're implying an actual person's (great)grandad is a skeleton monster thing waiting to be killed in your next video game.

It's some type of limbo / purgatory thing. People (or their souls) from across time are jumbled together in a giant war.

It probably is a fictionalized version of the airborne since Del Toro's badge says United Cities of America instead of United States of America.

Given the whole Bridges theme and Mads character looking like a US soldier circa 2003 it's probably a story revolving around jumping across parallel timelines with each arena being slightly altered versions of a reality that we know.

The second trailer is a fictionalized WW2 from a parallel dimension hence why everything we see are American machines in a European style city but the American insignia and designs are all just slightly off.

at the moment i think that purgatory is too catholic and not 'death' enough for kojima. I think he'd prefer using these tethers as the usual 'strings of fate' that feature in japanese thinking, and that these people are in the afterlife (ie, dead.) spirits (as in those killed in war) can be restless. Perhaps demons control these spirits with the strings of fate. reedus and toro are both stranded in the afterlife. As for the babies, that's anyone's guess. The fact that reedus has no 'fate' might be symbolised by the lack of string.

This is Kojima. He uses religious themes as an overlay to obscure the rather mundane yet fantastical sci-fi explanation for what's happening.

Kojimbbles is one of those people that likes to do sci-fi that seems magical.

Really it'll just end up being super advanced dimension sliding(BRIDGES) and the chords are what keep characters connected to their reality.

Also Reedus was''t tethered so could be alive in the dead world, Del Toro's tether was white and engineered because it has safety labels on it. Mads tethering was only seen on dead things and tethered to dead things so the living can control the dead.

They don't sync up like that at all. That upload of the game awards trailer starts way late.
I checked with the official uploads from Kojima Productions, and starting from the beginning of both trailers has the fetus disappear from Norman's hands a good 15 seconds or so before Del Toro plugs the baby in. The only alternate timing would be skipping the text at the beginning of the Reedus trailer and that only puts it further out of sync.

Its interested that all the "strings" we've seen resemble umblicial cords. Del Toro's weird sci fi tube comes out from under his shit and connects to the baby, same as Mads' strings which connect to the skelly soldiers

The babies are the major red herring Kojima is doing in the trailers. Del Toro character is using his canned baby as a 'filter' for psychic hazards. It isn't a central macguffin, just a bit of visual worldbuilding and characterization.

Reedus' baby is just a bit of funky dreaming, possibly inspired by a lost IRL child or maybe just dream-random ('his innocence' or something like that). The entire first trailer is not literal.
