It would be my dream to see this game properly emulated and with online capabilities to play with other people without the need for the GBAs, or a port for the NS. That would be awesome too. Having to get four GBAs and their link cables to play with your friends was a pain in the ass back in the day.
The game was so good, though. I really miss it
I don't think the Switch would be possible for a port of this, just because of the lack of a second screen, the WiiU would have been perfect, especially connecting 3DS systems as players 2-4 and using the gamepad as player 1, the whole being able to go and mess about in your inventory without pausing and still being dragged along by the chalice range was good, as well as each player being given a different part of the map to try and get more cooperation going on, a single screen doesn't seem to cut it and you can't use the Switch like the gamepad and run a game with it undocked but still on the TV.
Emulation is the only way forward now I feel, and I hope one day you will be able to play it online without lag from hooking up the virtual gameboy to the GC emulator and trying to netplay with others. Still real life at the moment is the easiest for me since I have 4 SPs and the cables ready to go.
pls don't die on me thread, I need you as much as I need this game
Yeah, the optimal thing would be to get it on Wii U, but the console was dropped so hard it's just painful to watch
Bump for OP.
I'm sorry but I don't think you'll get that much discussion. The game is not that well known and it's rather old
Still, for the sake of saying something.
I found a copy of the game at a convention once. Having played it before at a friend's place and having fond memories of it, I didn't have any doubt in me when I picked it up. I was pretty hyped thinking I could relieve those memories.
Thus, I spend a couple months trying to get everything together, the controller, the memory cards and such, and once I got everything and I was ready to play, I found out that the model I had recently replaced my Wii due to a malfunction in the last one was identical in all respects, except it lacked backwards compatibility. I felt pretty shit then
>I found out that the model I had recently replaced my Wii due to a malfunction in the last one was identical in all respects, except it lacked backwards compatibility.
What the fuck, is this an actual thing?
Yeah, it is. It looks the exact same as the original Wii, only it doesn't have the ports on top for the memory cards and controllers, in fact that latch thing the original Wii has simply doesn't open here, and it doesn't read GC discs.
I don't even think it has a different name
what utter shit, that's messed up, gamecubes are pretty though if you think it's worth it, you can also get four swords adventures for another game which uses the GBAs as controllers
Yuke master race. Which area was your favorite OP? Mine was Daemons Court.
selkies are my bros
anyone else remember how fucking tedious the lynari desert element quest was? I can vividly remember just messing around and getting a reaction out of the tent not knowing what the fuck to do. not only until a year or so later when I looked it up did I understand and boy what a mess.
>Lynari Desert hides the mysterious unknown element hotspot. Not only does the
unknown element allow you to cross any miasma stream, it is required to reach
the final dungeon in the game.
-- Step 1 --
At the northern-most point of the first map there are a group of
cactuses (or is it cacti?). Cast a Lightning spell on the largest one.
-- Step 2 --
From step 1, go east and slightly south until you reach a small tent. Cast
a Gravity spell on the tent.
-- Step 3 --
From step 2, head south-east until you see an odd mushroom shaped rock that is
just out of reach. Cast a Fire spell on it.
-- Step 4 --
Just south of the cactus from step one is a group of 3 rocks. Cast a Blizzard
spell on each rock in order from smallest - largest.
-- Step 5 --
Head south and slightly west of the rocks from step 4 to find a pink flower.
Cast a Holy spell onto it. Now simply drop the chalice into the hotspot to
change its element to "Unknown"
I've been reading around and it seems that it's a thing with Wiis released after 2011. They're made without BC
I was always partial to Clavats myself, although I have a soft spot for female Selkies.
I liked Yukes in terms of appearance, but I could never get into them
Gurdy clues you in, but hes a vague cunt and even then you might not have realized his poems were actually important.
I preferred yukes just for their quicker cast times.
Mount Kilanda, went there extremely early when me and my frined played when younger, we were getting our shit pushed in because we were incredibly under geared, we managed to grind our way through the level with no cure killing one or two enemies at a time then dying ourselves and just continuing on and on.
Well you are given instructions on what to do through poems by Hurdy, or Gurdy, I can't fucking remember.
Bit dickish for Nintendo to do that, now I am definitely not letting go of my Wii.
>this series never got a 3DS/Wii U game
>Tactics didn't get one either
>probably won't get a Switch game either
Annoyed
I understand not getting another CC game, but no new Tactics breaks my heart.
I CANT UNDERSTAND IT FFCC IS MY FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME I NEED A PROPER SEQUEL TO THE GC VERSION
too bad have another spin off of a spin off
What annoys me most about no new tactics is the sheer amount of similar games on the 3DS/Vita. I just want that rad setting and enemy design.
Would this game be possible to netplay over Dolphin? I don't really know the status of the GBA link emulation but it'd be a good time if you could.
Its too late user, it was always too late. At this point the best we can hope for is a spiritual successor. I don't hate Ring of Fatea, Echoes of Time or Crystal Bearers, but I do wish they were more like the original. My Life as a Dark Lord is pretty fuckin' good though.
>proper sequel to GC game
Don't ask the impossible user.
>Friendo 1 plays Yuke
>Friendo 2 plays Selkie
>Never played a Lilty before, decide to give it a try
>Becomes my new favorite race after I'm able to just chainsaw enemies apart, jumping and charging all over the field.
Lilties are basically Dragoon: the Race, and it's so amazing.
Male Yuke>Lilty>Clavat>Selkie>Female Yuke
Who the fuck approved the mandatory cone tits on female Yukes.
>playing as a yuke
>selkie friend takes the magic ring after the boss fight
>Hating my cone tits bird
Don't MAKE me cast some bridge-aga on your sorry ass and banish you to the shadow realm.
None of you assholes posted best music yet?
youtube.com
Moschet Manor would also be acceptable
youtube.com
It's possible, but even hooking up a GBA emulator to the GC emulator lags the game heavily to the point where it's unplayable.
Make way nigger, best song coming through
Its SHIT. Female Yukes exist in-game that don't have cone-tits, why couldn't they give us one option without?
>ever trusting a selkie
your fault
this, the final boss theme is fucking incredible
Shiiiiiit niggga that's good too but get ready for maximum comfy with the intro stage narration
youtube.com
youtube.com
The intro narration for every stage was so god damn good. If I ever design a game you can bet your ass I'm putting that in there.
>tfw the music kicks in as the stages name is written
frankly the entire OST is amazing and should be praised since most of the songs are catchy, memorable and some of the most exotic sounds you'll hear from a 21st century product.
>no new final fantasy will ever let you play a race as cool as cool as Yukes
Fuck that
I wish we could have new original races in XIV but I know all we'll have is another race of animal-eared j-pop starlets
Fields of Fum comfiest region hands down
>the music during the narration
>then the full level theme starts playing after she finishes
so fucking good
>tida
;_;
>adventuring with gypkies
You asked for it
>wanting new races
>only for them to be stuck in a shit game world
Didn't work out so great when ffta and fft's ivalices got fused so excuse me if I never want that again. Knowing square they'd sooner fuse Crystal Chronicles' world to whatever stupid new crap they're trying to sell and ruin everything worse than Crystal bearers did.
>dat crackle of fire
>dat rush of water
>dat wind whistling
>dat voice
I need this lady to whisper sweet nothings to me all night
Also I just watched the Rebena Te Ra intro and it talked about the four races living together later in the future. Didn't two of the races die out in the later games? It was only Clavats and Lilites left or something right? I never played the other games.
Nah just the Yukes, and I don't think they died out, I think they just fucked off to a different dimension.
>The sun once smiled on this village more than any other. But one day, their crystal's blessing faded. The villagers eagerly awaited their caravan's return; but for them, the crystal would never shine again. It is said that not a single one of them tried to escape. All stood fast waiting for the caravan, hoping to the very end. After hearing that tale, I felt the weight of my burden like never before.
>tfw you know you carry your entire villages lives on your shoulder
How did you feel when the sluice dried up and you had to actually go and cast life on the planets to get the water flowing and the river to get filled up again?
>mfw
>I got to play full multiplayer with my friends because I was smart and bought all the cables and GBAs while they were on sale at some arcade/cardshop place
Was legitimately one of the funnest times I had playing a game, we played all summer.
Crystal Chronicles also had some of the best world styles and music in the entire FF series.
One day I'll get a full party to play with...
Because it got a dozen sequels and every single one of them was fucking atrocious and ruined every good thing about the original.
NEVER trust SE to do sequels.
>game has you collect memories throughout the entire game
>memories are a mechanic in the final fight
>if you run out of memories you don't get to retry the final fight and get thrown back to your last save
I truly don't think anything else, no matter how much I may play more stuff, will top this game for me.
Did you beat the undead dragon with 4 people? If so fucking how? Having to keep holy up on the boss, dealing with the poison and respawning lizards, it felt like you had to be completely on point at all times to handle it.
I don't remember it being very hard, in fact it was one of the easier fights we had.
I'll go ahead and blame my friends for being shitters then and not being able to properly do 3 hit combos as well as avoid damage, yeah that must have been it. I doubt you'll be able to remember but do you remember what year you fought it on? Another thing is we could have been undergeared but I'm not quite sure if that's the truth.
I thought they finally got this working?
best theme
youtube.com
I think the fourth or fifth?
Because it is the worst FF game
thank you for the bump friend
Have another, bump. People need to be reminded about how shit this game is and that it is the worst FF.
Because fuck the swamp
And that shitty final boss where I had to remember the lyrics to the camp fire songs
This was shit and you know it
Selkie was best race. Female had best body
Except multiple main line titles are worse, and almost a majority of the other spin-offs are as well.
Has to be us being shit then, one thing I know 2 of my friends struggled with is being able to just combine spells without stopping everything, going through a 3 hour lecture and getting a blackboard with chalk discussing exactly the positions for putting the rings and releasing. The one guy I can be perfect with wasn't there at the time I don't think.
Ye no
Selkie fucbois were where it's at
Nothing wrong with the swamp, and the final boss was amazing, you didn't have to remember anything, if you're on about the desert and the lyrics, I thought that was neat desu even though me and my friend ignored it and got stuck.
>stupid opinion held by a selkie player
Can't say I'm surprised.
I don't see why it couldn't be done properly on just the 3DS, you already have two screens for that and it requires less setup. It wouldn't be quite as great as the couch co-op of the original but it would probably give more options for multiplayer. Like dropping in on a random player's game or online play, I think Echoes of Time kind of tried that but it seemed really badly implemented in that. I think Tri Force Heroes even had a mode for something that was basically like the chalice, I'm not sure how well it worked for that game.
Really I'd just love for the series to come back, even if it had to sacrifice some of what made the original great to be more accessible. The original concept had a lot of potential, and I love the world of CC. Selkies were my favorites followed by Yukes but they're all top tier races.
it would look shit on the 3ds desu, that's the only reason why I'm against it on that
This is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I think the fact that you needed the GBA links killed its potential popularity, because the atmosphere, graphics, and music are all among the best of its generation. It's easily the best co-op game I've ever played.
Lilties have the coolest culture. Yukes have the best design. Clavats are the most fun to play. Selkies a shit.
I'll give you another bump just for good times spent trying to organise a trade with a friend by going to opposite ends of the screen and dropping what we wanted to trade and running to the other end to pick things up, but me managing to pick up my thing and then pick up my friend's thing pissing him off to no end because he was being retarded.
Heh, those were the days. I miss playing with my friends like that, nowadays we're either gone our separate ways or too busy to actually do anything. It seems as if you only get lonelier as time passes.
You have gotten yourself a good thread OP, a little bump on my part
>still no possibility of emulating it and playing the coop via online connection
I just want to play FFCC with my best bro that's living across the country.
Is that too much to ask for?
Life is suffering.
The friend I used to play with is still up for it, but it's hours to actually get to his or him to come to mine, so we rarely ever do it unless we can stay for like 4+ days which hardly ever happens, I wish I could go back to the old days with no responsibility and play for a week straight eating nothing but junk food and playing FFCC with my bro. Those were the days.
One day I'm hoping it will be possible, I pray Dolphin will get good enough to handle netplay with GBA emulators hooked up to it and things being smooth.
