What a shit game. Completely railroads you into turning against your overlord in a rushed and underwhelming ending, almost every single character is written poorly and plenty of them are insufferable, almost every area are boring battlefields or generic dungeons, combat is Pillars of Eternity only without any depth and designed by casuals for casuals.
>Original World and Story Design
>Chris Avellone
He's been trying to design a game around this kind of setting for a decade. They grabbed the poor guy's vision and ripped it to shreds while shitting all over it and forcing him to watch but halting him from interfering. If this is the level of quality Obsidian is at nowadays, then I have no hope whatsoever for Pillars of Eternity 2 or any other game they decide to release.
Tyranny
Pillars production values in Tyranny would've been great. I liked Underrail and AoD's art styles bette, especially given their indie origins allowing me to adjust to those standards.
The concept sounded great and they said all the right things in the hype leading up to it. I wouldn't call it a shit game, but it was really disappointing.
This isn't the same team that made Pillars of Eternity or is working on Pillars of Eternity 2, though.
>The new crop of Obsidian writers are shit as seen in Tyranny and the shittiest parts of Pillars of Eternity
>Meanwhile, Ziets, Fenstermaker and Avellone, the last great writers in the company that made the best content for Pillars leave it
>John Gonzalez is long gone
It's over
Higher production values would have been completely wasted on this mess. I feel like it already has a way higher production value than it deserves.
>However, Obsidian’s CEO also mentioned that there’s a small group of people within the studio that’s working on something completely new, but he didn’t want to share any details regarding that yet. What’s worth noting, though, is that the names of Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky came up while talking about this. Feargus didn’t say that directly, but he pointed that it might have something to do with a prototype using Unreal Engine, that he mentioned during his podcast with Game Informer.
M-m-maybe there's s-still hope. R-right?
Lantry was alright
Graven Ashe and Tunon were kind of neat
I strongly disliked everyone else
They better have some incredible shit to show for their inevitable PoE 2 kickstarter
Boyarsky spent a decade working on the story of fucking Diablo 3. He will never be the same man again.
It was good enough to satisfy me for a few weeks. Now back to waiting for the Underrail expansion and Torment.
Fig, you mean.
is it?
because i pirated just to check it, but seeing it came from the same studio that did PoE made me lower my expectations...
pillars of eternity is one of the most boring and shitty games i've ever played
They fucked up by giving you the chosen one bullshit. The game would have been much funner if you were just a minion going around spreading law.
Gonzalez is a hack that managed to pull magic out of his ass with New Vegas
everything else he has done has been absolute garbage
I think the games okay, not perfect, but I dont think its problems fuck it up completely
I like the setting, I hope they go back to it, and that they do a better job next time.
do not worry, good goy, the ending will be fixed in a DLC patch
This wouldn't be so annoying if not for the fact that George Ziets is wasting his talents in Inxile and Avellone is now a walking kickstarter stretch goal.
If we want good RPGs back, we're gonna have to bank on entirely new people.
>PoE
>Any good
You know that part at the end where you choose which god helps you down the hole because apparently rope doesn't exist? That pretty much determines your entire ending.
Shit game.
Fenstermaker left too? FUCK! What's Obsidian doing to piss everyone that works under them off?
He left in good terms.
Got a kid and wants to take care of him.
>Completely railroads you into turning against your overlord in a rushed and underwhelming ending
Oh come on. Do you turn on him because he's evil and treats you badly or because you could do a better job than him?
So, any RPG worth a shit on sight?
her* she*
How would you even know? He wrote on like two other games. Hardly a sample size worthy of note.
who cares I wanted to serve for all eternity and carry out the will of my emperor
The setting is cool in concept but the writers of the game were completely unable to deliver on it. Unless they completely changed the team for Tyranny 2, I don't want this setting again. The writers that wrote this should be relegated to writing MMO's
You are forced to unleash a big ancient power to defend yourself, everyone tells you that Kyros is now afraid of you, sees you as competition and wants to kill you. You're essentially forced to side against him.
Tyranny is better than PoE, give it a shot. If your main reason for dropping PoE was boredom, consider this:
1) There are no lore dumps in Tyranny, you get right into the meat of the story from the first minute (as opposed to Pillars, where you run around Dyrwood killing wolves and collecting companions for the first five hours).
2) The skill/character progression system is much more interesting - you can choose actual on-use abilities and create custom spells when you level (as opposed to Pillars, where every other skill was something like a passive "+5% accuracy")
>you play as a lawyer under the equivalent of Kyros' attorney-general
>hurr u haf to revolt against kyros
What if you just want to do your job?
>All these people saying Pillars of Eternity was bad or even worse than this
You're out of your god damn minds. Pillars of Eternity was amazing and better than this trash in every department.
yeah i still have it here and i'm probably going to try it at some point... i just hope you're right though
>What if you just want to do your job?
Exactly what I would have wanted
>an Overlord that's afraid of loyal underlings because they could potentially defeat them
Yeah that's a pretty shitty Overlord
>Pillars of Eternity was amazing
Yes
This. I didnt ever pass the first town in Pillars, but I finished Tyranny with out a problem (tho the old walls become boring REALLY quick).
If the game kept the quality of the first chapter, it would be a real GOTY
I thought the first chapter was pretty weak. The funnest chapter to me was the second. Lethian's Crossing was my favorite area of the whole game.
