At the highest tiers? It's basically Rock-Paper-Scissors until someone loses, then it turns into "Don't Drop that Combo 3: Hope You've Practiced Those Same Movements for Hours™" until the character either dies, or the combo drops. Then return to Rock-Paper-Scissors.

What gets people hype, is when shit gets really close to the wire, tournament jitters set in, and then "Don't Drop that Combo 3: Hope You've Practiced Those Same Movements for Hours™" turns into a REAL test of nerves and patience, with frequent drops/mis-executions, that result in close-matches, total turn-arounds, and face-melting agony and tension.

UMVC3 is basically the hypest shit in existence when played professionally, by good players who can't deal with tournament jitters. Which is why Chris G is god-tier at the game. Cause he gets "The Chris G Jitters" and it's like NASCAR. Is he gonna crash? Is he gonna crash? Is he gonna crash? OH FUCK, HE CRASHED, THAT WAS THE DOPEST SHIT IN THE FUCKING UNIVERSE, HOLY FUCK THOSE LAST 2 HOURS OF WATCHING THE SAME SHIT WAS WORTH IT."

PS4 anons, help me out. I just got a cheap PS4, mainly for fighting games. I've already ordered a copy of MK XL. What else should I get? King of Fighters, this, Street Fighter, Guilty Gear? Which are the best games of the genre?

That would be nice supposedly it requires companies to host their own games instead of using PSN for it to be allowed. Capcom has obviously shown they already do that with SFV though so I would actually expect it, there is no reason for a fighting game to not be cross platform.

Don't fighting games just use peer to peer anyway? I don't see why this is hard

you can get SF5 pretty cheaply. It is the biggest fightan in the competetive scene and the game also gets constant free content patches. It definitely worth a purchase if you are into fighters.

King of fighters 14 is also pretty good but only if you don't mind the ps2 graphics. Has 50 characters and plenty of game modes.

Guilty Gear relevator has some fantastic and unique artstyle (if you don't mind anime artstyles). The mechanics are also cool BUT are also really hard to get into.

You can also wait for Tekken7 which looks really promising but plays really differently than avarage 2d fighters.
