This game is just complete shit outside of graphics which are really good for an early PS2 game. Too bad the """HD""" rehash is unfiltered 720p and my monitor is 27 inches 1440p. So it looked like vomit for the most part.
The gameplay is derivative 3D platformer tripe that is inferior to Banjo Kazooie in every single way despite ripping it off big time. The jumping feels sloppy and not precise enough. Sometimes the double jump wouldn't work but overall I had issues only in the very last area, the rest of the game was so easy I had no issue with the shitty controls.
The music, don't even get me started. It's just complete shit. I literally completed the game 100% a few minutes ago and I can't recall a single track from the game. On the other hand I could sing you every single track from BK or SM64.
The story is bullshit, but I don't play these games for the story.
The npcs are so weirdly animated and voiced they remind me of fucking Zelda CDI.
Daxter is just a cunt. A fucking cunt and I hate him all the way through the games.
The whole game lasted me around 8 hours and I completed it 100% with minimal effort.
I can't believe sonyggers (which I am one except I grew up with the Nintendo golden age before becoming one after getting the PS2) unironically like this fucking irredeemable garbage. The main reason why I played it was because I like BK and I liked Naughty Dog's offering on the PS3 and I like third person platformers, but man this one was a true pile of shit all the way through.
Should I play the rest of the trilogy or just admit I wasted the $5 this costed me and move on with my life? I still haven't even downloaded the other two games.
I feel so bad for you if you had to grow up with such a shit game instead of having Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64. Even fucking Spyro on the PS1 was better than this travesty.
I'm so glad Naughty Dog moved on from trying to be a shittier Nintendo and started making their own shit with Uncharted and TLOU.

>Should I play the rest of the trilogy Jak II,3 are pretty different from the firsts game, they are shitty GTA clones with retarded gunplay. The first, Jak and Daxter is literally the best game of the trilogy. If you didn't liked it just avoid the rest.
Zachary Perry
there's a reason the gameplay formula didn't stick around.
back in the day though, it was a good romp.
i do feel that ratchet & clank held up pretty well though, minus shitty playstation platforming
Nolan Wright
The PS3 could handle this shit at 1080p just fine. Lazy fucking devs are to blame for 720p.
Chase Stewart
Jak is built in PS2-specific technology that's difficult to port, you're right that you could do it but you'd basically have to build the rendering engine from scratch and that's not worth the time or energy. Emulators have struggled with this game for years.
Kayden Jenkins
I got the Jak, Ratchet and Clank and Sly trilogies for PS3 because I never played them on PS2. After playing all the 9 games the Ratchet and Clank trilogy is the best by far, while the Jak trilogy is the worst by far
Never did play Sly but >R&C3 > R&C 2 > Jak 1 > R&C 1 >>>>> Jak 3 > Jak 2
Parker Thomas
>Jak II,3 are pretty different from the firsts game >Jak and Daxter is literally the best game of the trilogy It's like saying Mario Party is better than Mario Sunshine, it makes no sense. But OP is a faggot anyway so he doesn't need to play these to come back later with another thread, saying 2 is edgy 720p garbage
Cameron Reyes
That's what happens when a bunch of hacks leave Universal and try to create their own game.
True story. The only reason Crash Bandicoot was good was because Universal Interactive gave a lot of advice on how to create a good platformer. In fact the producer was pretty much the lead designer but never got credit for it.
After Sony realized that the co-founders of Naughty Dogs were hacks, they asked them to leave. Then the rest of Naughty Dog came up with the idea of Uncharted and the rest of history. That's why modern Naughty Dog is such a sharp turn from early Naughty Dog.
Elijah Myers
B-but i had Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64 and i still enjoyed Jak and Daxter 1-3. Don't be mean just because you can't into the nostalgia needed to really love these games.
Landon Wright
>The first, Jak and Daxter is literally the best game of the trilogy. That's literally wrong. Jak 2 and Jak 3 are better in every way.
Nathaniel Kelly
People who like J&D generally grow up to be Nintendobabby autist virgins.
People who like Jak II and 3 generally have girlfriends and lots of sex.
Zachary Roberts
Apart from gameplay, controls, setting, story, level design, aesthetics...
Robert Clark
2 and 3 actually do control better in terms of jumping/platforming
Chase Sanders
Play the first hour of the second game just to see how completely different it is to the first. It's hilarious how they suddenly transition to it without much explanation.
Xavier Carter
I don't see how can Jak 2 and 3 be better than the first one, Jak and Daxter is a good platformer with solid controls and good level design. Jak 2 is an openworld game with one of the worst gunplay I have even seen in a videogame and shit level design. Jak 3 its just a compilation of shitty mini-games.

I just beat Jak and Daxter for PS2 on my PS3 upscaled.
Game is really fun.
Jace Cooper
I didn't notice much of a difference as far as that goes. The hoverboard was a nice addition.
It's vastly outweighed by how awful the gun controls are and how often you're forced to use them.
Julian Stewart
>Jak 2 and Jak 3 are better in every way. >Add a gun mechanic that Ratchet and Clank realized had to have strafe and aiming or it becomes a chore and not fun to play at all and then make a shooting gallery around it for orbs where you have to aim precisely. >Make collecting and platforming take the backstage in comparison to shooting things, escorting characters, and driving around. >Escort misions are at the forefront and the escorts run directly into groups of 3+ enemies constantly. >Driving is like skating around drunk, the cars explode in one to two hits, time trials are filled with enemies that outright cheat and randomly speed up when you're ahead or behind them for whatever reason so the only way to win is to cut corners all the time while avoiding the cars the routes take you in. >Soldiers get triggered by anything you do, you can't escape them since they all spawn around corners or anywhere you're going, and they're constantly driving around where you need to go. >Checkpoints are miles away but they barely give you any health drops so you constantly have to repeat sections where it's filled with dozens of enemies that lead their shots and hazards. Jak 3 had the opposite problem, you couldn't die at all due to how many health crates there were and you had light Eco which gave you health on demand and was easily replenished. >Daxter is the only thing keeping all of Jak 2 together and lighthearted. >Entire world of Jak 2 is dark and gritty for absolutely no reason when everything was light and full of life in the first one and the ending of the first one wasn't even leading up to such a conclusion. Even the third one barely fixed this. I don't understand why any of you think Jak 2 is better than the first one, it gets less fun the more you play it since the driving starts to piss you off along with the guards and the horrible checkpoint placement paired up with escort missions.
Liam Wilson
but it's true tb.h I'm the only exception : I like 2 and I'm virgin as fuck
Nicholas Thompson
What's with all the Jak hate lately?
Xavier Hughes
I think 1 and 2 are amazing games that are on par with each other, while 3 is mediocre. What does that make me?
John Wilson
It's the only platformer mascot that hasn't reared its head after five years of nothing?
Justin Kelly
If I had to be cynical about it, it's probably because Naughty Dog's new "mature" audience is upset that people aren't fawning over Uncharted and TLOU as much as they used to, so they're trying to discredit anything the devs did in the old days.
Even ND themselves have said they don't want to do Crash again even if offered because they "grew up" and decided to do cinematic games, which is also probably a big reason why people are now trying to retroactively say Crash has always been shit.
Chase Reyes
>gameplay Jak 2 and 3 are much more challenging and rewarding with an actual sense of progression.
>controls They only get smoother through each release.
>setting Each setting fit the theme of the game perfectly, it all boils down to which theme you prefer.
>story Jak 2 and 3 had a plot that was more than "collect these eggs and power cells and avoid dark eco."
>level design More challenging platforming, and puzzles that actually took longer than 10 seconds to solve.
>aesthetics Same as setting.
Jordan Cooper
I'll give OP some credit.
Jak 2 and 3 are not good video games, and frankly may as well be a different series. If you had been playing Ratchet games alongside these as they came out which you probably did if you had a Ps2 back then, you would see how superior Ratchet 2 and 3 are vs Jak 2 and 3. To the extent that there was no reason to play the latter.
OP falls short though in that Jak and Daxter 1 was an incredible game. It was actually better than Ratchet and Clank 1 in my opinion (but it stopped there). It was an excellent platformer, great art and music, very charming world. It felt ahead of it's time honestly.
Jak and Daxter 1 I could happily replay any time. It's a platformer and game that's a personal classic for me in the Super Mario/Donky Kong Country ilk. I guess you can say it's similar to late 90s collectathons, but it's better than them all. That was why it was so great. After this game it didn't feel like there was anything left in the tank for the 3D platformer genre.
And coincidentally Jak's sequels become lousy shooter/Vice City knock offs. Yawn.
Angel Torres
I really want to know in which way shape or form could the music of Jak1 be considered decent, let alone good. My main issue with these sonygger platformers is the music is always shit. The only exception I've found so far was Puppeteer on the PS3.
Zachary Rogers
>Jak 2 is difficult therefore it is good Stopped reading there
Cameron Barnes
Something like music is incredibly subjective I suppose.
Nolan Russell
I love the story, characters, and setting of Jak II and 3.
R&C 2/3 have better gameplay, but the story and characters are played mostly for laughs. They're fairly shallow.
Easton Sullivan
At least it doesn't try too hard. Jak can't decide if it wants to be epic or goofy and ends up mangled somewhere in between.
Jason Scott
that crash remake got everybody salty
Thomas Walker
What do you mean, most of the goofy stuff comes from daxter interactions and not much else
