>what went wrong?
They don't take off the swimsuits.

>cute childhood friend that secretly likes you
>loli that wants your dick

God, SMT is as bad as Persona now. The only waifus in SMT should be demons

More like what went right

It died when kaneko and meguro stopped working on it.

This DLC is pretty good if you do it during the anarchy route honestly. It's like a melancholy reminder of what you left behind.

There are two basic types of japanese games. One is lame as shit, the others are the best.

For an easy example: dmc vs senran kagura. A decent jrpg vs neptune. I think you get my point.

What went wrong is that a lot of companies are realizing you can sell a lot of copies for almost no effort by pandering to slobbery fucks.

>DMC
>JRPG

I think you need to give that a re-read.

SMT's always been lewd. Most of the female demons are naked.

I'll admit I may have given Sup Forums too much credit with the way I chose to write that. But did you actually think I was calling dmc a jrpg?

jap devs doing the same pathetic fanservice pandering they've been doing forever?

SMT is Persona and Persona is SMT now.

>There are two basic types of japanese games. One is lame as shit, the others are the best.

>can't date demons
>stuck with shitty waifubait humans

I really don't care if you want to jerk off to senran. But don't pretend it's a good action game. That would go to dmc or bayonetta or god hand.

>god hand
>good
/cgg/ is dead and you should have died with it

Kaneko is kill. That is what happened.

At least Nozomi has a line about her actual woman body being the clear choice.

I really don't care if you want to pretend God Hand is bad, but don't pretend that Senran is good.

It's not pretending God Hand is bad, it's factual. Everything from the camera to the combat to the characters just reeks unpolished shit that was thrown together in ten minutes. The people who defend it obviously haven't played it.

you're the only one talking about senran for no reason in here so shut up first maybe?

Toki perfectly represents everything that's wrong with SMT. Her presence alone ruins Final.

Why Toki? Asahi is way worse.

>Atlus then
>Atlus now
>Digital Devil Saga
>SMT X FE

All dead

Just using it as an example for a type of game we're all familiar with. The formula is below average games + tits = sales.

I've played it and enjoy it a lot. Checkmate. King me.

Kaneko and Cozy must have connections with the yakuza

At least Asahi suffers.

>What went wrong
>dlc
If you couldn't identify this straight up you are the cancer killing this industry

This

If you dated a demon, they would just suck you dry, it's their nature.

Although I guess you probably wouldn't mind that.

I mean are you implying that SMTIVF is actually a shitty game or just that its character interactions clash tonally with the setting and previous entries by trying to marry mainline SMT with Persona in an attempt to recognize the latter's relative prevalence/popularity
The existence of a beach episode DLC is just funny to me. I don't think that the developers at Atlus decided to make such an obvious staple of modern japanese otaku media without any self-awareness. My gripes are with the preachy justification for the peace route once it's locked in and how characters fall into the trap of feeling very apparently like vehicles for lines of dialogue and less like characters
The game isn't bad though

Failure as a human!

>>Atlus then
>>Atlus now
>>Digital Devil Saga
>>SMT X FE

>All dead

>Shin Megami Tensei

This is the future now

How do you get money more easily in SMT2? Skint in Roppongi

>too beta to get human girls
>too beta to get demon girls
Is Anthony beyond /r9k/ tier?

DLC is better than it being shoehorned into the actual game.

The second one. But more just speaking in generalities honestly. Imagine if nocturne had waifubait and a beach sidequest.

>no fun allowed, how dare add this completely optional DLC to muh super edgy friend killing simulator
>love interests automatically means it's persona

>tfw retarded waifubait gets eaten by a motherfucking snake

I wasn't expecting that kind of shit in this Persona tier power of friendship bullshit story.

>SMT is totally different from Persona they said

At least she gave half back better than a normal woman at least.

Finally got around playing SMT4:A since it got released in EU and while gameplay got much better since 4 story so far is a fucking letdown. I'm just at the beginning where the party goes for some kind of Ark in a well and I just hate how the game shoehorns all the characters and events. It's like they're... just there without any thought or premise. In 4 I can't think of any character that felt "filler" as all of them had some purpose outside of what we were shown in the game. I also hate the overall higher weaboo degree with "Nanashi-Nanashi-Nanashi-Nanashi" blabberring and comical relief ghost Navarre. Do not see any of the gray morale so far as both demons and angels are shown as plain assholes with no regard for humanity which clearly wasn't the case with 4.

Does the narrative get better? It still kinda feels like I am just being lured into believing I'm in a saturday morning cartoon until some plot twist happens and all the silliness and childishness either goes away or gets shown from other point of view. I liked the down-to-earth logical narrative of 4, will I like 4:A's story or will just stick to it for addictive gameplay only?

It doesn't get better.

I feel like I understand why they did it, though, in regards to Asahi and Toki. I see the entire peace vs. anarchy dichotomy in the game as an observation of the morals and values expounded by Persona, the poster child for Power of Friendship bullshit, vs. what is arguably the 'real' best decision to make for humanity and all of existence but would require you to abandon or never care about in the first place Power of Friendship bullshit (and what may be seen as a more apropos choice for those familiar with the franchise, ie how many saw TDE as the best ending for nocturne)

For a post-Persona Atlus it didn't really ring of cynicism or pandering to me, more that they thought it was the most appropriate way to 'modernize' SMT and that SMT IV's strides in that direction with more present, fully-voiced character presence gave them license to do so, along with these sorts of character-driven 'fanservicey' elements being more common on the whole in the industry.

But maybe I'm just biased completely since I want to fuck Toki.

So you're barely one dungeon into the game and you're all complaining about the game as a whole, cool.

>I also hate the overall higher weaboo degree
No seriously, what the fuck does that even mean. The "I renounce my heritage and wish I born Japanese" degree?

Oh boy, if liked 4's story at all, you're probably not gonna like this.

It pretty much makes the end of 4 irrelevant.

Also, if you liked the moral choices, it's really stupid here.

You either go full anime friendship saves the day, or full edgelord.

Holy fucking shit

Do not fucking cherrypick, I said that I've just started the game but see distinct differences with prequel in narrative and style which I didn't like so far. So I asked whether it gets back on the prequel's rails or not.

>It pretty much makes the end of 4 irrelevant.
Yeah, figured that already but as far as it's just an alternative "what if..." way of retelling it's fine. Still did kind of grind my gears that all that 4's ending brought kind was kind of made null and void.
>You either go full anime friendship saves the day, or full edgelord.
Goddamnit, why did they have to ruin the best part of the story that is gray morale?

You can still go neutral, but neutral route has always been for faggots

Get back to your own game series, Mir.

Don't lie to him, there's no neutral route.

>It pretty much makes the end of 4 irrelevant.

All of SMT4's endings are canon. SMT4A is also canon. It's fucking a fucking multiuniverse, did you not read the DLC notes?

Are you implying they have played an SMT game before?

WE'LL SACRIFICE THE SON OF HEAVEN

Yeah, but it shows the entire conflict in 4 was pointless because YHVH was behind it all along.

Even if you went Chaos, you were still playing into his hand.

Fire Emblem

Who is you're waifu?

Pixie

killing my "friends" were the best part of the game.

Come on dude, are you really so set on being contrarian that you are gonna call God Hand shit?

Actually the contrarian thing ot do would be to praise it.

>did you not read the DLC notes
Not yet released in EU. Does it literally say that no ending/storyline is true canon?

Persona is still shit though

>you're

Don't do this to me, user.

but he did get a demon waifu in the end.

SMT has always been a multiverse

God Hand is a game that you really have to give more than 20 minutes to play. The more familiar you become with the controls the more all the design choices begin to make sense. When it finally clicks its one of the funnest things around

Asahi is shit upon by the game's narrative at all points in the game

>pixiefags

I thought you guys went extinct

>man eater can only fuse in to slime in the first SMT
Gay, guess I'll go with one less semen demon.

It was hard picking between the not loli and the childhood friend. After the childhood friend died she kind of edged out the not loli though.

I'm in the final dungeon and need to finish the game, but its such a boring and shitty dungeon I cant force myself to finish it.

>dlc of a spin off title isn't allowed to have fun

>Once "observed," each alternative universe becomes its own "true" reality. So in a way, there is no permanent end to this world.

What does Sup Forums think of Devil Survivor?

I never played the sequel to 2.

It features cute girls that haven't bathed in a week.

"Observed" by whom?

the player lol

Refers to the collective conscious of humanity.

>Defeat YHVH with the power of friendship.

Modern SMT is a mistake.

We never left.
It's proven fact that fairies are the best girls, Pixie being the best of the best.

Can't decide whether it's a lazy write-off or a viable meta-narrative.

I don't see that as 'playing into YHVH's hands'.
Sure he did everything so people would follow him through the hardships, but for example, Flynn in neutral was fighting for humanity's own path. It ended as the dome fell, and from there on could be interpreted to the player, because SMT4 knew when to end.

YHVH felt forced in the game in apocalypse. Steven could very well have steered Flynn to take him down in the original SMT4 after the dome was destroyed.

You can still go all out edge if you don't care for that.

The only things that don't make me regret bonds route are Gaston and Nanashi's happy ass smiles.
It's like the culmination of all SMT MCs' efforts was for just one of them being able to smile.

It's been omni present and speculated throughout the series.

The precedent still exists.

Both games are good. The overclocked version of the first game is one of the best Megami Tensei games there are, period. It even does an amazing job of making every route reasonable and enjoyable, including a coward run away ending, law, chaos, which usually suck. Also really challenging.

SMT was never about edgy.

People only call it edgy because you can turn against God, and the game tends to be biased against him and the angels by portraying him as a tyrant.

Both Law and Chaos were never intended to be good or bad.

The edgelord ending is just you killing people.

It's why I didn't like the choices in Undertale, there's no grey area, you're either peaceful to everyone, or an inhuman monster.

To be fair the game is called fuckin SMT IV FINAL they'd be remiss to not have you fight YHVH, that's almost like the whole point. YHVH is crucial to the motivations behind the game's secondary antagonist who is the main antagonist for nearly the entire game, as well as Dagda's motivations. I think it mainly feels shoehorned in the bonds route but I admit Steven's intervention does just feel too convenient

I was alright with bond's route, especial because the game gave you a choice about it. Gaston made it worthwhile.

What really bothers me about it though, is that shesha literally thrusts his hand through Asahi to consume her soul, but when the souls are returned, her body is perfectly fine.

Yeah, in previous SMT games when you kill your friends, they're trying to kill you too and have no hard feelings about it. In Apocalypse it's a grand betrayal.

Are you saying you should only be able to defeat YHVH by killing all your friends? Because that's kinda dumb in the opposite way.

Did you really expect coherent reading comprehension from a Sup Forumsack?

If I could remember where from, I swear I heard that it was called FINAL, because the Japanese just think English words made it sound cool as a sequel.

your friends are dicks thats holding you back.

thanks for correcting the record

I'd give them a little more credit than that

>Argilla

sorry m8 but Roland is already smashing that

>I don't think that the developers at Atlus decided to make such an obvious staple of modern japanese otaku media without any self-awareness.
The fact is that most devs are otaku to begin with so it's more like "hey I want swimsuits in the game" "why don't we put swimsuits in the game AND GET MONEY FOR DOING WHAT WE WANT IN THE FIRST PLACE?" "awesome!"

>Imagine if nocturne had waifubait
You joke but I'd pay Kaneko a fair amount to draw a lewd Chaiki
