Fun as fuck.
One of the best battle systems in FF.
I wouldn't mind if XVI went full DMC but kept the light JRPG aspects. Basically Kingdom Hearts but without Disney.
Fight me nostalgiafucks
Better off cancelled
It's fine. Sup Forums wants it to burn to the ground, overly-defensive fans won't hear a bad word about, but despite both of those it's alright.
The feeling of "road trip with your bros" really is the game's highlight, and combat is fun in a kind of mindless way.
Fun but flawed. Tabata is a hack as we all know.
It's shit
Haven't played it btw
It's okay. I am more of a final fantasy traditionalist (bravely default, ff1, ff3(jp))
This one is original enough to where it doesn't offend me like ff10 or ff13, but doesn't seem great. I'm not completely bored, but not disappointed. A true 5/10
The story is an insult to everyone who waited for this game for ten years. The gameplay consists of boring fetch quests and passable combat at best that suffers from bad camera control, shitty magic mechanics and retarded AI. The music is pretty good, although not nearly as memorable as the 13 trilogy's music. The presentation and the lighting engine in particular are pretty good. Overall, I would rate this game 5/10, and that's me as a huge FF fanboy being generous.
Fuck Tabata.
>and that's me as a huge FF fanboy being generous
The FF fanboys are the one going on this game because muh turn based strategy not brainless hack & slash that is actually harder than spamming cure and your strongest ability for 40 hours like in the previous ones.
Needs about 10 more hours of cutscenes and actual story.
Combat is decently fun but its too easy to break. Needs balance patches.
8/10.
Its fanbase exposes all the people with utterly shit taste and zero standards.
Gameplay is alright though
>not brainless hack & slash
I defeated the Adamantoise, the """"SUPERBOSS"""" of this game, by holding the attack button for 20 minutes and using the limit break when it's charged up. Skill-based combat? Sure thing, buddy.
More than the previous ones to be honest.
>sprinting
>suddenly noctis stops and swings his sword
>see "pick up"
>noctis jumps instead
These are my only two big gripes so far. Also, monsters appearing out of nowhere. The first time I thought it was a glitch but apparently it was normal. Adds a new term to random battles.
>suddenly noctis stops and swings his sword
Sprint with L3 fag.
>I beat the meatshield attrition boss by wailing away at it
No shit, bruh
a mess.
6/10
But that makes it hard to do the sprint refresh.
Nah.
Also to pick up things you hold the X button.
It doesn't know what it is.
I see in FFXV the ghost of a game that was about a guy who is sent to a neighboring kingdom to participate in an arranged marriage, and the guy and his bodyguard friends decide to go one one last adventure on the way; they drag their feet, camp out, take up hunting missions, cause trouble for patrolling enemy soldiers, hit on local women, etc., because the guy doesn't really want to marry this girl. It's his duty, and he'll do it eventually, but the destination is the last thing he wants to get to.
Then, somewhere down the line, someone said "we need more gods of death and sinister plots! Final Fantasy is supposed to be a grand epic about the fate of the world, not 4 dudes on a road trip!" and they added all this plot shit.
They did an okay job melding the two approaches, I guess, but at the end of the day it feels like someone taped two totally disparate games together
>it feels like someone taped two totally disparate games together
Thats exactly what happened
I'm just saying it totally shows.
Really good but flawed too.
It's a 10/10 if you ignore the story.
Actually 9/10 because of the fucking X Prompt that never works and you end up jumping all over the place instead of picking an item up or entering the Regalia.
I can only do the refresh 1/10 times when using L3. Maybe it's just my control. Will also try holding x.
This really should've been a movie instead of a game, because the ending of the game is hopelessly, pointlessly bleak (and linear) that it retroactively makes all your accomplishments worthless.
The big time skip is also a strange, strange thing. Why? Your companions don't change in 10 years except for Ignis, who 'gets over' being blind somehow.
I think this is one of the best Final Fantasy games made so far in sheer vastness, but Noctis' relative lack of power is weird. You're never a true badass, it's like you're smacking your enemy with wiffle bats. Not being able to command your buddies makes fighting annoying, because they WILL walk into your magical wargasm of doom every time.
Reducing Summons to a literal hand of god was also pretty bad. And having Noctis never speak to Luna/the sudden gameplay change for the Leviathan and Ardyn fights was rather abrupt and an odd choice.
So half an X press?
been seeing this, my "pick up" button is Circle instead of X, or is it already patched
>muh Nomura and his vizshun
He's literally the Stephenie Meyer of vidya storytelling, I hope they don't let him near any future FF installments and just keep him in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
>You're never a true badass, it's like you're smacking your enemy with wiffle bats.
I'll have to second that. There are some monsters in the game that will actually still give you a hard time even if they're like 20 levels below your party.
Too bad newfag, Nomura is a visionary and has already been handed FF7RE.
>mfw he makes FF7R the new Versus
Funny because he wasn't even the writer of versus
>visionary
Why is it that whenever I play a game by a """visionary""" the game ends up being complete shit?
The guys behind Deus Ex were visionaries, but we never call them that.
He had the original concept, the writer guy was helping him put it all together
I really enjoy it so far. 10 hours in on chapter 3. Stopping in at an outpost to hand in quests, refuel, and rest on your XP while that electric blues music goes is comfy as fuck.
if you enjoyed it how is he a hack?
I enjoyed it overall but I wish it the plot had more meat. Also I don't always get along well with the camera and the lock on, and I wish summons could happen when I want them to instead of random. Like I said though in the end I enjoyed it FAR more than XIII. This is how I feel and I will not be convinced otherwise.
The plot seems much better if you watch Kingsglaive and Brotherhood before t.b.h
It's really growing on me. Once you're out of the desert it gets pretty damn fun. I'm loving all the different enemies. I'm only on chapter 3 but I'm at 13 hours. I feel like I'm missing out on a ton of shit. I didn't explore the entirety of the desert either and I know I didn't run into some places I found in the demo.
An absolute travesty, can“t belive I paid money for this.
>fun but flawed combat
>pointless open world
>shit sidequest
>4 main guy + villain are decent/good
>rest of the cast is underdeveloped
>scenario feel rushed and like there's things missing
It's way too easy to overlevel and fsceroll everything by doing sidequests and hunts
Also I heard you get to see adamantoise while driving out of hammerhead at the beginning but I never saw it. Did I miss it? 35 hours in and on ch8
World design and exploration is top notch and future of FF imo.
Combat is a good system but reaches only 40% of it's max potential due to shitty targetting, random attacks/no dedicated attack button commands and the hold button to auto combo shit.
Story is utter dogshit.
Characters are cooler than expected on second glance but still too anime for my tastes.
Some aspects are very classic FF like, enemies, thunder spear, music
11 hours in on chapter 3, having fun.
>World design and exploration is top notch
It could've been better. I thought this game would have more vertical exploration and you'd be able to warp up the side of mountains and find hidden caves or some shit.
Well desu i did expect a more restrictive type exploration like the originals. So in that sense it is still an upgrade. However more vertical exploration would have been very cool indeed.
I still have my copy wrapped. Somehow I feel exhausted at the thought of playing it.
I feel like it's going to end up like MGSV for me. Sure I'd love the gameplay, but it's usually the batshit story that keeps me going in both series.
This game looks like there's a lot of pointless things to do, but not a lot of story to enjoy.
Don't ever play beyond chapter 7. Stay oblivious to the shit that comes after. Don't do it to yourself
Try playing it like dragon's dogma. Like a roleplay thing. Its much better that way.
Faggy AF
>ch 13
>game went from Diet MMO-Lite to Horror/Stealth Lite
>it is longer then the last 3 chapters combined
You're*
Looks like a great game, will buy it later though, fuck Canadian video game prices
>Sup Forums actually enjoying a game
what is happening
I dunno, but I like this timeline.
I'm loving it. Super comfy experience so far.
Is chapter 7 when it goes linear? I plan to do as much side stuff as I can until then.
Really fun to play and the characters are honestly very likeable. The story starts off solid, but wanes a bit in the second half, but even then I can't really say it's bad since that had some enjoyable highlights that came with it.
I can at the very least say it's one of my favorite FF games so far. Not the best JRPG but overall great.
So why was there no news about the empire.
>Kingsglaive has the emperor setting up some kind of treaty arrangement or something with Regis
>empire looks completely fine at this point
>Chapter 13
>their capital is completely devoid of humans and infested with demons
How the fuck did no one notice the biggest political power in the region turn to shit and have their capital ethnically cleansed of humans?
nostalgiabait
I don't even want to play it.
So far it's okay but I haven't played a whole lot and I like doing menial things in a big world. Riding around a Chocobo's great, always wanted to be able to do that in a Final Fantasy game.
That being said, what the fuck are people talking about with the combat? That's been one of the worst parts of the game for me. It's so boring. Every fight is spamming warp strike and parries into the same invincible cutscene attacks over and over again, or throwing a grenade.
That's been stupidly effective in every fight. So unless I'm missing something, I do not understand what people are seeing in this combat system.
Needed more singing to One Direction while driving
Chapter 9
Look up Finishers, Directionals, Charging weapons, Breaking Appendages, Blindsiding, and MP Free Warps. This'll make things more interesting, but not useful unless you take on more challenging fights/hunts. You will get a better report card though.
Alright thanks
I'm 17 hours in level 35 and only to chapter 3 where the new area opens up. I'm digging it so far. Good time killer before I go to bed.
i'm not even gay
but my heart hurt when ignis went blind and prompt got tortured
what's wrong with me
You might be gay bruh
Or you can throw a grenade.
You don't have to look that stuff up though it's explained in the game, but it doesn't make things any more engaging.
WEEB GAME
prompt getting tortured is whatever
ignis going blind fucking hurt, tho. That entire dungeon w/ ignis was fucking heart wrenching.
Feel so sluggish...
Talk about backseat fishing.
>Stand by me starts playing
>While they are pushing their car
I knew it was going to be mediocre from there.
Currently 30 hours in, on chapter 14.
The amount of things happening off-screen in this game is really passing me off. I know square is deliberately doing this to force people buy the DLC later.
Waste of resources and everyone's time
Nice weather.
>Fighting Necromancers without any anti-petrifying shit
I made a mistake
Oh, so the name of the game really is fishing blindsides until they fall over.
I thought I was exploiting it somehow.
I noticed this too.
I mean you never are in any danger of dying, you can just hold X and eat a sandwich or jerk or whatever, but it takes for fucking ever.
>die 1 time because the mech the dropship launched was fucking level 85 instead of the last few that were level 16 (i was under the impression they all were this level)
>BRO DUDE EASY MODE ANY TIME BRAH ANYTIME MAN YOU DONT THERE SWITCH TO EASY
It was a great ride. The best way to play is to fuck around in the overworld as long as you can, take and save lots of pictures, then move on with the story.
That said, I don't understand all these memers with
>Everything happens off screen
>The story is terrible/confusing
Granted the combat isn't some super complex button masher, but its not shallow or boring either. Complex controls =/= fun, especially in a casual game like FF.
Now I'm off to explore the end game secondary dungeons
>35 hours in
>Only 3 Gentiana photos
I-I just want more Gentiana...
>>Everything happens off screen
>>The story is terrible/confusing
Well for instance, take a look at ANYTHING regarding Ravus
The only thing we know about the guy is that he wanted the ring for himself in Kingsglaive
What level would you recommend being before attempting the postgame dungeons?
And he goes back to his throne to stew in his envy under the crystal while Ardyn systematically turns his entire population into daemons
the opposite of MGSV
MGSV I went into thinking it was going to be good and it ended up terrible.
I went into FFXV thinking it was going to be terrible and it ended up being good.
It has some areas where it shines and some where it's weak, Ithere's gonna be a lot more -'s than +'s because it's easier to point out flaws then to praise because a lot of praise always feels generic:
- Sidequests are literally all fetch quests
- You rarely see the result of any of the resolution of sidequests. For example the chocobo rescue
- For an open world game, most of the character building is done during the main quest, which is a shame if you like to actually do side content
- Having Quest/Shop markers appear in towns just by talking to the chef makes some towns feel empty, in other ff games exploring towns and talking to npc's to learn what each and every one does was part of the sense of exploration in the game, but that's lacking now.
- A lot of voice lines seem overused, they need some system in place so you don't hear the same ones twice in a row and shit
+ I actually like all the main characters, which surprised me, I didn't like them all at the start of the game, but by the end I was liking them all for sure
- Side character development is lacking. They could have done a lot more with Cindy/Takka especially.
+ The photography gimmick really grew on me and I ended up exploring around just to take cool pictures
- Not nearly enough clothes or gear
- Level scaling with mobs seems whack. There are level 40 Magitech assassins that fucking oneshot you with no block prompt or anything all of the sudden out of nowhere, among other things
- The game would have been better if luna just wasn't a character. If you want me to feel motivated to find/save/meet someone, they have to have the development to justify that emotion, which simply wasn't the case with her.
+ It definitely was the case with the main cast though
Wrong one, that's aldercapt. Ravus didn't want the ring, he wanted a ruler to take down niflheim. Luna was to give the ring to noctis, who ravus decided to see if he was worthy for his task. He kept Regis's sword on him to give to noctis once he was ready
10/10 world
9/10 combat (-1 for the clunky camera)
7/10 ending
Overall 8.5/10 game, would pay $60
what the hell am i looking at
- Treasure reappearing makes it feel like I never really complete anything by exploring. I felt like the thing I really completed by exploring was getting cool photos. I wish it just didn't happen and they stuck with treasure chests or something so I could look at a map full of empty treasure chest markers instead of full ones.
+ Combat, for the most part, felt really good. It Needed some tuning, and maybe some more interesting abilities outside of Warp Strike, but for the most part I greatly enjoyed how combat was handled.
- I still don't know how the fuck summoning works. It looks cool as fuck when I can summon, but I still don't know how it actually works
- "Cindy" instead of "Cidney." What the fuck
+ Music is great, but Square has always had good music in final fantasy games
+ I love how they made food so fucking useful that I actually wanted to go and set up camp for the night and such, it gave a real gameplay incentive for playing the game like the people are real human beings that need sleep and food
- For "Fast travel" the load times are really fucking slow. I'd pay more money for a ps4 that actually had a fucking SSD holy shit, PC gaming has spoiled me on load times.
- For an "Ultima Blade" it sure is easy to get when the last quest just requires you to hit a level 18 horse in the head with a warp strike
+ The world looked very nice, easy to identify landmarks so I knew where I was going all the time even without looking at a map, variety in world design while still being cohesive (Desert separated by woodland by a mountain range for example, you don't just walk and suddenly the ground texture goes from sand to grass.)
+ "Powerful Daemons come out at night" Until I got higher level, Having nighttime be actually terrifying with iron giants that suck you in and rape your face was awesome and totally made me want to spend the night in towns and shit like I was supposed to. Early on as soon as I saw the sun was setting I fucking booked it for camp.
Is the ending actually bad or do people just not like it because it's sad?
I'm fine with a dark ending as long as there's at least closure and it's not something retarded like Assassin's Creed 3 where they unceremoniously kill off the protagonist and end on a cliffhanger.
Just bought deluxe edition because I actually have a job now, mostly for the nice box. You can roast me now.
>Everything about Coeurls
Jesus fucking christ who thought these were acceptable
Doing the hunt where you have to fight five of them at once is the most unberable fucking thing in the entire game
>Constantly spamming the move where they fuck off and heal and instakill you if you touch them
>Allies KEEP FUCKING ATTACKING THEM DURING IT
>Nobody knows how to fucking dodge the lightning AoE
>Nobody knows how to fucking dodge AT ALL
tl;dr but I was really disappointed and not having fun my first playthrough. I could tell the game wasn't all bad and there were lots of good spots, but it was barely any fun for me.
Then, due to an uncontrollable urge to replay it from the start, I actually have had a lot of fun during my 2nd playthrough, largely due to discovering more about the combat and knowing how the game flows. And the story or maybe just the game feels more i dunno meaningful.
Specifically, the ending of the game, with the bros and the world of ruin and all the photos you pick from in the end. And then starting the game, being sent off by Regis, pushing the car up the road, Stand By Me playing like it did in the credits, in the open sun lit day. It was almost beautiful.
And a lot of other small things people keep finding. Also, I love fishing now for some reason. I fucking HATED fishing the first time I tried it.
Overall, I'm impressed with the game, maybe it's the fact that I was expecting a total blunder and a huge disappointment, and it actually turned out pretty good. Developers need to take a lesson from Witcher 3 / Fallout NV when it comes to sidequests and decision making, because FFXV was certainly lacking on "impact" when it came to side content in an open world game. But overall it was an interesting world to explore, with character that I thought were going to be edgelords ending up being pretty likeable, and a main quest that actually was pretty neato. It's a good game and I'd recommend getting it, something I didn't expect to say given how other games in its nature have been. It's no genre/era defining game, and it is very much an imperfect game with things that could be improved upon, but it's still a pretty good game that I had fun with.
Why wasn't this a Mafia story?!
The trailers made it look like it was going to be.
It was enjoyable overall. Postgame stuff is nice.
Second half was pretty bad, though.
Especially that "stealth" segment with the magitek axemen as if I wasn't going to just kill them. In fact the moment you see snow in the game is the moment they clearly just gave up.
What the fell with people praising this game's combat. Have you ever played a decent hack 'n slash game in your life ?
