About to play this for the first time. Any general tips I should know before playing that will smoothen the process of getting into it?
I've only played Skyrim and Oblivion

Don't bother. It's the most over hyped piece of shit that has aged like milk.
It controls badly, but isn't as terrible as says (he wants to seems cool)
Don't listen to this user, he's a s'wit
>Get boots of Blinding Speed as early as possible (use 100 percent magic resist for 2 seconds before wearing it)
>learn levitate or that spell (haven't played this game in a long time) that lets u jump like superman and makes sure you always have that spell that stops you from dying when you fall
>power level and abuse trainers who can up your skills like Blade and Axe so that playing this game in the first few levels isn't torture and you don't miss 90 percent of the attacks at first.
>abuse alchemy and make rly strong potions and sell them for as much as you can to that impish merchant who has 5k gold, it'll get you rich fast.
Haven't played this game in years but yeah, powerleveling like that and equipping with broken gear like that makes it so that you don't move at a snail's pace. Also you need to level up your skills with trainers so that you don't fail casting a spell or hitting an enemy most of the time in the lower levels.
...
this is what I'm talking about Morrowind is unplayable unless you do some serious planning and powerleveling at first.
alternatively, you can mod the movement speed, you can spec agility properly so you can hit things, and you can not exploit game mechanics and still end up with more gold than you could ever spend by level 20
I sort of enjoy the old jankiness of it, its interesting to me in an autistic way so I think I can overlook that for the most part.
>no fatigue
>wonders why he isn't hitting anything
>0 stamina
>likely low agility
dont play like a retard and you can avoid a lot of the things people like to bitch about
For a new Morrowind player what mods should I use? Should I just play vanilla or get a graphics mod? GTX 1070 here.
I agree. If you didn't play this when you were a kid and didn't know any better, you probably won't enjoy it as much.
Play pic related instead.
I tried playing the game without Boots of Blinding Speed. Even at maxed speed, my character feels too slow now.
Question for Morrowind experts:
Does armor/unarmored experience depend on how much damage you take from an attack, or do you get a flat amount per attack that hits you?
movement speed mods usually have different options for speed. and one is usually too fast to be in any way reasonable, even for you
Im pretty sure its something along the lines of
>(attack damage)-((armor rating)x(armor skillx0.5)x(luckx0.1)) or something
Get boots of blinding speed as soon as you can
Pick a weapon skill as a major skill unless you want to suffer
Get mark/recall and intervention spells and get your mysticism high enough to use them effectively
Get a mod that fixes the shitty leveling system that punishes you for roleplaying
Sensible advice. Oblivion's barely playable nowadays, and that's only if it's heavily modded.
oh, you're talking experience. no idea
So it's actually just faster to let several weak enemies hit you while you outheal the damage than to find something strong to slam you around, right?
minimum exp gain has to be at least 1, right?
forgot about mark and recall. Those were really useful too.
Oh shit nigger its potc pc game
That thing was fucking boss, but holy shit it was buggy out the ass, and I never did finish it because I couldn't solve the maze in the ruins at the end.
When you get hit only.
Also, if you plan on doing unarmored, there's a small bug: You need to wear at least one piece of armor, otherwise your armor value is 0 no matter what.
what mods would you recommend for the leveling system? Im an experienced player, but obviously the leveling system is kind of fucked. so far ive been using mod that slows leveling, and i dont bother trying to x5 targeted attributes every level since you get powerful really fast anyway
i posted an algorithm for damage based on player skill, i thought thats what you were asking. no idea about the experience. in a lot of bethesda games, falling further makes you level acrobatics quicker, which is why armor exp might level more with more damage, but i guess it could really go either way
Play vanilla or graphics mod for first run?
mods fix everything
graphics mods
at the very least look up morrowind fps optimizer or something like that, it gives you a launcher where you can increase tthe render distance and little tweaks like that that improve the vanila experience without full on modding the graphics in the traditional sense
No amount of fancy textures will help the game.
The graphics extender or what's it is alright though.
Do you know if you gain exp from damaging yourself with a spell?
>Any general tips I should know before playing that will smoothen the process of getting into it?
Yeah, wait for Skywind.
Here's the best tip you will ever get for this game
aquire a Fortify Skill spell and a Soultrap spell
go to a spellmaker
make a spell with FS on self magnitude 100 for 1 sec
the second effect is Soultrap on target for 1 sec
buy it
cast it 10 times
???
profit
it will make the game 100 times more fun
did Morroblivion even come out yet? I bet by the time Skywind comes out, people would want a revamped morrowind with the graphics of the next elder scrolls.
awesome game. enjoy your journey.
don't wait on mods. get some right away. some i suggest.
-Arrows have no weight.
-Merchants carry lots of gold
>14 years after release
>first time in 12 years that Sup Forums constantly has threads on it
What's with Sup Forums and Morrowind these days? I mean, I'm happy and all, but I don't get it. Was FO4 so bad it shocked people into the past?
its great now that i have a good gpu, but using fps optimizer on my old gt 740 made it look awful with pop-ins
bad vanilla meshes and textures dont help either
almost certainly yes, but after playing for a while id rather limit myself than abuse game mechanics. you start off the game really weak, but slowly becoming way too powerful creeps up on you and suddenly at level 20 you have an existential crisis over a lack of need for equipment and skill progression, and therefore a lack of need for adventuring and quests. at least in my experience
We should add as a tip for beginners:
Try to talk to mudcrabs before attacking them, or you might kill one of the best merchant in the game.
I NEED A TORRENT FUCK
Don't listen to this n'wah, you don't need guides or powerleveling off the bat, just wander around and play the game how you want.
Just make sure you choose your race and class skills so that you have decent starting skill with a weapon so you aren't playing miss-fest 2003
And download morrowind code patch and use most of the optional patches, they all improve the game. Especially the racial speed fix
>not buying Todd's game
I'm just gonna tell you up front it's going to be hard dumbing yourself down for Morrowind after playing the other two. Just pay attention to your stats and don't get pissed when you miss everything.
Skyrim SE probably re-ignited interest.
get MGE XE so you can have distant land and shaders and play in a borderless window(it doesn't enjoy alt tabbing in full screen), better heads, better bodies, better clothes, and MLOX to arrange your load order
I think Skyrim Special Edition sparked renewed interest in the series in general.
Plus Oblivion just became backwards compatible on Xbox One and ESO is still a thing.
Becoming way too powerful on my current collection of mods is not a worry.
The base enemies don't really get stronger, but one of my mods adds a spell that lets them conjure a massively over-tuned creature.
The mudcrab merchant is in the middle of fucking nowhere, no new player is going to be wandering around the islands off of dagon fel
>tfw having naval battles inside of a giant storm
Shit was way better than Assassin's Creed 4
the advice i wish i had heard before i gave up playing pretty quickly the first time:
>use the silt-strider in the first town to travel to balmora, where your first quest is sending you
the first time its hard getting through the wild with shit equipment
also
>low agility means you wont hit anything with weapons
>there are places in dungeons with loot that can only be reached with levitiation spells, scrolls, potions, or enchantments
>out of the last 3 elder scrolls games, morrowind is the best for mages, because of all the useful non-combat spells, whereas later entries are pretty much purely combat(first playthrough mage might be kind of difficult)
To everyone here playing Morrowind for the first time; even if you're committed to a 'vanilla' experience, download and use LGNPC. There is absolutely no reason not to use it.
explore the dungeons in the vicinity of seyda neen, they're designed specifically for beginners. don't start the main quest until you're at least level 5. and if you want to use melee weapons, pick LONG BLADE and only long blade. don't worry too much about magic, you will find lots of enchanted items.
There is absolutely no reason to use it. It makes random NPCs become poorly written books who tell you their entire life story. It makes the most boring part of the game (talking to NPCs) even more boring.
>not spears for early endurance gain
Vanilla
his face fits right into oblivion
I didn't think I could find a faggot worse than OP, but lo and behold.
I know my advice seems like it takes the "soul" out of the game and makes it less fun, but believe me. I tried playing it multiple times without power leveling, and it was incredibly frustrating. If this guy is not used to RPGS like Morrowind and is fresh out of Skyrim, he is not going to have a good time unless he preps himself. Not even saying he should powerlevel till he's like 100 in blade and start beating up mudcrabs, but get it up to a point where he can consistently hit enemies.
Stuff like Mark/recall, levitation and that flight spell that makes you jump like MJ are essential though.
>mfw my first playthrough I never used levitation or flight
>mfw that playthrough was this summer
Nah, they're really not.
Make a Male Argonian
Speed as Favored Stat
Athletics Major Skill
Steed Birthsign
Strip naked
Run from town to town just punching people to get them to chase after you see how much of a crowd you can pull before you die
i just got an rx 480 and morrowind keeps crashing, anyone know why or how i might be able to fix it? i have the 4gb patch already and script extender and other patches
>missing out on loot and some cool areas in dungeons because you want to play a fantasy game without any fantastical powers
>thinking you need to experience all of Morrowind in one go and be a special snowflake that does everything
See, it's that exact mentality that you have to leave behind from Skyrim.
>Visibly see your hammer go through enemy
>zero damage
>"No it makes sense because you didn't have any stamina IDIOT"
go play skyrim
i started as a mage, so naturally that was a result
since agility is the hit and dodge stat, you have to see it as they have dodged an attack in a way that they couldnt animate in 2009. it really does make sense considering the limitations of animation. in combat youre not moving around that much, but in real life you would be a much harder target to hit
im gonna bump this because google offers nothing and i have nowhere else to go
Anyone got a list of "must have mods"?
Couple of things:
>right after you create your character and grab the release papers, go to the bookcase that's directly in front of you, go to your inventory screen and click on the limeware platter
>set it on the ground and exit your in screen
>the guard will lose his shit and run to you
>dw about it, he's a retard
>pick it back up, run into the hallway and drop the platter in the dining room
>go outside
>grab the stuff from the barrel and put it back
>go through the next door
>sneak behind Sellus Gravius and go into your inv screen again, and take the Warehouse key on the bookshelf
>it's hard to see, so just hover you cursor over everything until you find it
>pick it up and set it on the floor
>the guy may lose his shit
>in the event he does, dw. if he doesn't, loot the key, go back and steal everything
>complete the tutorial, give the healing ring to fargoth, and sell everything but the key and the stuff for Caius Cosades
>go into the warehouse directly opposed to the Census and Excise office
>avoid the guards and loot the barrels for armor and weapons
They bought me this game believing it was based off the movie and initially I was pissed that it had nothing to do with it, but then I discovered how fucking great it was. Sequel when?
They made quite a few sequels, don't know if they're any good though.
