Did I get memed or am I going to be fine? I'm still waiting for my card to arrive

you're paying less for worse cooling and a smaller size.
Unless you actually need to stuff a 1070 in a tiny case, you fucked up son.

I bet it has throttled power consumption to be able to do 1 fan. It will probably perform worse than a normal 1070 either way, but if you need a small card what can you do unless you buy like a rx480

The price difference was too good to ignore

it's fine, the smaller cards run just as good. The cooling obviously is worse but this isn't going to be an issue for 99% of users.

Cooling shouldn't be an issue if he doesn't overclock it.

enjoy hitting 90c and pulling your hair out for the next 5 years

I didn't need a small card, it's just that this was like 150 burgers cheaper than the cheapest atx card I could find

Oh well I guess I can use it to build a little media server when I upgrade my GPU next time

you can't over clock it as good and your idle temps wont be as good but it shouldnt be so bad.
It'll be louder if you push it, 1 fan and all.

I have a 970 exactly like that and it's noisy as fuck.

The blower cards have a single, smaller fan even. Bigger heatsink perhaps

There's really no reason why this couldn't work and give reference performance, I just wouldn't count on it being overclockable

I live in Canuckstan and the state of our dollar made videocard purchases really shitty. Your only option at the usual mid $200 range is a mini 1060 3GB. I got one and I'm really surprised at how cool it stays, I thought that shit would light up on fire. Just make sure you don't go into Nvidia control panel or Nvidia Inspector and set Maximum Performance as a global setting, otherwise it's going to use max power while you are shitposting on this site.

>not shitposting at maximum power
Get out

I'm gonna piggyback off this thread as I was thinking of a 1060 for myself, but am I correct in assuming my CPU would just bottleneck it?

Thinking of upgrading my video card. Any thoughts? Is there something else I should be upgrading first?

Nah it won't, but your ram needs an upgrade

Your CPU is fine. Intel hasn't made leaps since Sandy Bridge.

You better pick a beast to make it actually worth it.

Why would that even matter? Your GPU is still going to give you better performance.

seconded you will certainly notice it, search the max frequency you can get

If you're lucky, you can also just undervolt it a bit, with that you should be fine.

Cheers.

I've never worried about it until now; I was just wondering which need to be upgraded before the other.

get a 1070

the midrange x60 cards age like milk

You'd see a huge improvement from getting a new GPU. I wouldn't even worry about getting a new CPU. It's not worth it when you factor in the cost of a new motherboard. I've got a 2500K and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

You should under volt and lower the MHz of the card down a bit.

You will lose a bit of performance but it will make it run cooler and more quiet.

>5 years

Really? I usually end up replacing my GPU every two years.
