i'm pretty close to finishing Yakuza 1.
should i take a break and play a different game after this?
or is Yakuza 2 different enough that i won't feel burnt out?

2's a much better game than 1, but for all its innovations and additions it's very much a direct sequel. It's also longer and has multiple difficulty levels rather than Normal or the game switched from Normal to Easy because you kept dying.
I went straight into 2 after beating 1 on the HD collection but if you're the type of person that needs the odd palette cleanser go for it. 2's definitely worth playing though, make sure you get round to it eventually.
yea i'm definitly going to play it, i own them all except 5.
guess i will play some other game before going into 2.
granted i am also really looking forward to getting to 3D graphics.
You playing them all in order? Good man. I blitzed through Kenzan, 3 and Dead Souls in the space of four months, got pretty burnt out on the franchise for a few years as a result. Really looking forward to easing back in with 0.
Sup Forums Should I play all of them I'm in the middle of 2 and I am thinking about buying 3 and 4 in the future. Are all of them as based as 1 and 2?
i got 4 thanks to PS+
and i got a good deal on 1-3 used for 40€.
i at least intent to play the mainline ones, no interest in spin offs really, also no interest in importing any.
but 1-6 Zero and Kiwami are on my list.
The story quality goes right down the shitter after 2. Granted they weren't the previous games best feature, but Kenzan onward there's an embarrassing dip that's remained to this day. 0 looks like a bit of a return to form in that regard but memes like CIA TWIN BROTHER and RUBBER BULLETS get thrown around a lot for good reason.
That said all of them except Dead Souls are great games because the core formula works and they've done nothing but refine it ever since. 3's got a dodgy and cliched plot but some of the greatest boss fightsin the franchise, 4's a great jumping on point for noobs and every subsequent game has borrowed heavily from it, and 5's sheer amount of content is staggering.
Enjoy yourself OP, you've got a lot of great games to play.
i feel like i am slightly missing out though, i am not really doing any side activitys at least in 1...
first of all they aren't THAT fun.
second of all i know that once i am done with the story there is already the next game waiting for me so theres no need to stretch the game.
granted the hostess stuff and minigame stuff in Yakuza 1 isn't that great bu i heard it eventually becomes a great part of the game.
Not OP, but figured I'd ask: Is there something in NVIDIA drivers or control panel that forces the offset bloom? What I mean is that I'm using pic related settings, and from the newest build all the way to one of the pre 1.0 builds, the offset bloom is still being forced.
I remember that not being an issue on my prior GPU, so the only thing I could think of is something is forced by default in the NVIDIA control panel or something.
2's sidequests are a big step up from the first game's. Much funnier and much more entertaining and they make it a point to up the ante of those with each subsequent game. I can say without exaggeration that the substories and side quests in later games are substantially better written than those games' own main plot. Yakuza's all about the side content, you can rush through the main story in a few hours but waste hundreds more singing in karaoke bars, getting a winning streak in poker or blackjack, learn how to play Mahjong or Go, winning golf tournaments, catching a tuna, want to kill yourself like an actual Japanese pensioner playing pachinko for days on end, fuck around fighting in the coliseum, or playing Boxcellios in the arcades, or Virtua Fighter, or Taiko Drum Master, or getting wasted in a pub and try to hit a bullseye in darts when you're stinking drunk, or getting hustled in a pool hall... There's more to see and do with every game.
hmm most of that isn't really in 1.
so i guess i'm fine ignoring the side stuff in 1 but should consider focusing some of my time on side content eh?
In Yakuza 2, that is. I tried disabling shader cache thinking maybe that was the issue, but it didn't help.
I also tried newer settings, including the new HPO which you have to manually set in the ini, but that resulted in an invisible line running up and down.
Oh yeah. Particularly as later games have an actual incentive and reward for completing that side content, and also because you have to beat all the substories if you want to fight the secret boss of every game.
damn as someone playing it on original PS2 right now i must say this looks pretty good.
It does. If only I could get my game looking like that. Currently it's blurry as shit and has ghosting everywhere even with those settings.
well, done now.
turns out the PS2 had another great exclusive i haven't played.
it also appears that putting gel into your hair and combing it back will turn you evil.
also be nice and greet every gang member on when you go outside you fucking motherfucker
I've finished it last week and went directly to 2. I'm also playing JustCause2 for fun and Tekken 6 daily as a must. It works for me to play 2 or 3 games at the time to prevent getting burned.
Did you earn Haruka's trust?
Pre-emptive "How do I mahjong?" reply.
>rescue her from multiple gsng leaders holding her hostage
>"You're only looking after me so you can get the 100 million!"
>buy her an energy drink and get ten home runs in the batting center
>"I LOVE YOU UNCLE KAZ!"
Fuck you too you creepy little mutant. Getting those twenty home runs on the expert course was the hardest thing in the entire game.
Holy shit, thank you man!
I'm at the 300K shit...
I still haven't gotten the platinum trophy for 2 HD because I can't win one game of mahjong.
To me was grinding in the fucking pachinkos, even with her 777 amulet. It was tedious as fuck.
The baseball minigame reminded me of the nights playing くまのプーさんのホームランダービー! with user fellows. Felt good.
pastebin for anyone who needs it
Fuck it. Guess I'll just stick with OGL and the new HBO.
Doing so puts a line through the middle, but it's the only one that looks nice enough, I guess. Playing with the TC offset changes the line, but it's almost like I need a negative TC offset to fix it.
>city pop
That's the actual name for that genre? Cool. I always thought it was just considered generally as 80s J-Pop.
Half pixel offset
In D3D9? Because I know using the old HPO causes a black line in the middle and through the center. New HPO one does I was trying to do those settings in that pic since apparently D3D9 forces the bloom off (or is at least suppose to), but it didn't for me. The game is still a blurry mess following those settings, so I just went with OGL and the new HPO.
I'm playing Dead Souls on Dead Souls difficulty now. When it gets up to Kiryus part and you have that mandatory hand-to-hand combat shit, do you have to actually fight or can you just run around? I usually just dicked around and occasionally fought them while I ran around, but now when I'm trying to only run around, it's not letting me progress. The fist fighting combat is so bad in this game that they can't possibly expect me to fight this large group without getting my ass handed to me, right?
Dont play these games back to back. I say wait at least a month after beating each game.
Also heads up the Yakuza 1 remake is out this summer and 6 in 2018 but dont play the remake(which plays like zero) until you beat zero.
And play each game in release order.
ABOUT THAT PART!
Why is it so clunky compared to 3,4s even 1?
Like what the hell its the same engine as 3 and 4 so why is the combat such shit. I know its one part but still.
Also you can just run around I believe.
I really don't know, but it's god awful. You have the dodge in previous games and not the good roll that's in the rest of the game, meaning it's hard as fuck to avoid zombies. I can't remember about the other difficulties but on Dead Souls, enemies only react to the final attack of a combo or a dropkick, meaning they can easily stun you. Pressing Square 6 times still does the Square x4 > Triangle x2 combo. I would have seriously preferred it be in a cutscene or something instead. It's just fucking awful.
Fuck im gonna replay that chapter now because i feel like being pissed.
I will leave this hear
Best of luck. I actually just did it and you absolutely have to attack enemies. I spent about 10 minutes last night running around just for the first wave and in the 10 minutes I've started playing, I got past it. So, dropkick like crazy. Sometimes you'll be in the air right in the middle of the dropkick and still knocked away too.
It's not like Kiryu couldn't kill the zombies with what he is doing anyway. Ryuji killed a bunch of zombies with a paper fan and they expect me to believe that Kiryu couldn't do the same with his fists?
Well seems I cant select a chapter to play on for Kiryu. I swear I remember being able to do that.
