What's a good Pokemon for somebody who's basically new to the series? I played some Gold when I was a kid but I was too young to appreciate it.

Team skull gave me feels I never expected from a pokemon game, the whole theme of the narrative is essentially "being left behind" and it does a surprisingly good job of it, highlighting things like wasted youth, regrets of the elderly, children outgrowing the ideals their parents created.

As for the gameplay, it's fucking pokemon, you outlevel shit and solve every problem by having your guys beat up their guys.

strong "tick" entries, now to see if they flesh them out in an eventual "tock" third version or god forbid gen4 remakes

I forgot mention that pokemon refresh is the most casual trash tier bullshit they've done since the exp share.

You literally can't be unprepared in the singleplayer mode, at all. Experience is free, healing is free, status healing is free. It doesn't at all feel like a pokemon adventure as it does like a giant tutorial for one.

You can also get them from pokepelago and fishing. One is a daily RNG shitfest and the other is a massive RNG grindfest, have fun!

There's no tension there where the game "beat me" because I misplayed my options.

It's the same with refresh, there's no tension that the game will "beat me" because I left town unprepared.

The game is full to the brim with annoying cutscenes you can't skip. There's a tragically small amount of new pokémon to choose from. It's really irritating because in pretty much every other aspect they're the best Pokémon games yet.

The DS era of Pokémon games was truly a blessing.

It's always best to play on original hardware if possible in my opinion.

They still don't realize how online play has affected their post game. They still think they need to add silly bullshit hoops to jump through for thing like battle tree to extend game time. They don't fucking realize that a roster of well over 500 fully evolved pokemon to form a team of 6 + online play against other trainers is endless gameplay.

That's why we're still expected to spend dozens of hours per pokemon, hatching eggs for IV breeding.
