Of course

the gb/c games aged like complete ass
Of course I don't OP.

>the gb/c games aged like complete ass
For you.

>muh graphics

Congrats you got me

Here's that (you)

no i don't like gen 2 so they all suck

Nope. The remakes are the best in the series.

>Chiptune Violet City still sounds better than most city themes
youtube.com/watch?v=kFNHlJ6yvEA

Yeah. Better aesthetics and atmosphere. Much better animated sprites too. And some other stuff, but I don't really remember.

>but I don't really remember.
Because you're wrong.

Only played Silver

Soul Silver was good but not as good. Nostalgia and all

Shit man. First game I ever owned. Parents didn't get a gameboy until I could actually take care of it/not be a retard. Brings back some serious memories, I fucking loved this game.

The gen 3 romhacks are better than both.

Speaking of Romhacks.
>mfw Prism's current release date is Christmas

Oh man, by far. HGSS was a butchery, Johto deserved better than the absolute trash that was gen 4. Pokemon has never been worse than it was during gen 4.

I remember encountering a Entai and the red legendary gen3 bird and didn't catch either

fuck pokemon

also coming from a "genwunner" emerald is easily the best pokemon game

Name 5 (FIVE) things that are objecitvely worse about HGSS compared to GSC

You can't.

They aged better than the gen 4 games did. At least you can play them without dying of old age at the loading screens.

Why would I? HGSS are better in every way.

Why should I?

GSC don't feel as "classic" as RBY do, and I say this as someone that started with Silver and then got Yellow.
Also, I'm biased against Crystal because my copy, like many other people's, did not save data.

You could barely even use gen 2 pokemon in GSC because they barely had better movepools than fucking delibird.

This tbqh.

The loading times
The saving times
The visuals (ugly 3D models as opposed to crisp sprites)
The useless gimmicks that only lock out existing content (Pokethalon, Pokewalker)
The music
The animations (GSC sprites are more animated)
Gen 4's half assed phys/spec split ruining tons of Pokemon, particularly Johtomons
Lack of appropriate tutors
Literally unable to evolve some Pokemon

I can probably think of a few more, if you like.

>Inclusion of the new shitty HMs
>Kimono girls story
>Forcing you to battle your legendary instead of doing it when you want
>Music is a downgrade
>Redesigning Mount Silver to require those shitty new HMs

No.
>HGSS has Eusine
>HGSS has Suicune subplot
>HGSS has female protagonist
>HGSS has sprite animations
>HGSS has special Celebi time travel event in Ilex Forest, even if you don't battle Celebi
>HGSS has the Global Terminal in Goldenrod in place of Japanese Crystal's Pokémon Communication Center
>HGSS has move tutors, far more than in Crystal
>HGSS has the Battle Frontier (including a Battle Tower) in place of Crystal's Battle Tower
>HGSS has the Crystal battle theme for Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, but with differences for each one
>HGSS has an expanded Unown subquest like Crystal
>HGSS has Buena
>HGSS lets you give multiple Apricorns to Kurt
>HGSS improves on tons of things common between GSC
>Gym Leader rematches
>Elite Four and Champion rematch teams
>GB Sounds to listen to 8-bit recreations of the DS music akin to GSC's music
>Battle Giovanni
>Rocket admins are unique characters
>Following Pokémon
>Pokéathlon
>No registration limit for the phone
>Sinjoh Ruins
>New Route 47 and 48
>Safari Zone
>Updated to Generation IV standards
>Pokéwalker
>Restored areas like Cerulean Cave, Viridian Forest, and Seafoam Islands
>Red's team got buffed, and Mt. Silver is more difficult to navigate
>Auto-run button
>Game Corner still has slots in the Japanese version

HGSS was a love letter to the entirety of Gen II. They are the definitive versions. I doubt anything was made "worse" with them.

No I like HGSS more, unlike ORAS it didn't drop anything from the third version

The remakes improve on everything and adds a shit ton of other things why should I prefer GSC?

Nigga, I preffer Crytal over every other damn game in that series.

Basically this, HGSS was almost perfect in what it was supposed to do, polishing and fleshing out gen II.

Just imagine how great ORAS could have been if it was made with the same dedication and quality, instead of being a shitty stripped-down edition with content cut off from Emerald and adding nothing meaningful.

I actually do, mostly because one of the main reasons I love Johto is the pre-RS visual direction being at its peak and HGSS ruins the whole visual direction for me, plus Crystal literally has the best battle spritework in the series. Other nitpicky issues for me include

>the level curve, one of the more noticeable flaws with Johto, is actually worse in HGSS
>games revert to the inferior GS encounter tables and barely remedy it at all with the new Safari Zone encounters
>which is bullshit in its own way with how it takes days of real time to get free reign of it, which is longer than a run should take
>no room decoration
>even in Japan no matching game in Game Corner
>doesn't retain the old Battle Tower mechanics
>most old tracks are worse, though a few are golden, usually the ones that are alternate versions of already remixed tracks like Cianwood, and the brand new music is all good

Objectively HGSS is a better game though with the up to date battle mechanics and more content. And the better female MC design.

The only thing I disliked about the remakes was the omission of customizing your room.

He's right. Take off your nostalgia goggles. The remakes improved on nearly everything. There's no reason to even play the GBC games anymore.

Yes, but I'll admit mostly for nostalgia.
And some of the new music sucks.
And Voltorb Flip can eat a dick.
And I hated that Pokeathlon thing, mostly because it was my only way of getting an item I couldn't otherwise get before hitting Kanto, whereas in the old games I could get it before Kanto. No, I don't remember what item it was.

>no reason
Can't play Pokemon Stadium 2 with HG/SS.

I still think the HG/SS DS games were the peak of the series.

>playing Stadium 2 for anything other than the god tier minigames

>can't play a game with crap, outdated battle mechanics
Meh. Although they should make a new Stadium game, and not fuck it up like they did with Battle Revolution.

i don't like all the handholding from the newer gens

They already have the cross game Pokemon Bank. Honestly, I assumed a new Stadium was going to be announced within six months of Pokebank. Somehow, though, nothing.

>b-b-b-but that doesn't count because I think it sux!
Compelling.

This reminds me I should put a game boy emulator on my phone
What's a good one for android?

The minigames were fun
Renting pokemon who had awful movesets wasn't fun

Stadium 2 was one of my favorite 64 games but not for the battling

GBCoid

>Renting pokemon who had awful movesets wasn't fun
That's why you use your Pokemon from your game.
That was the whole point you dumb shit.

Gen 4's half assed phys/spec split makes Feraligatr good though

>renting Pokemon who had awful movesets wasn't fun

Which was exactly why you'd use your team from the actual game.

I stopped playing Pokemon with Ruby and Sapphire which I actually liked.

I'd like to get back into it and play in my spare time, but im not about to pay for a whole handheld device just to play them, any good DS emulators you recommend?

I

CAN'T

WAIT

TO

BOMB SOME DODONGOS

It's funny how Pokemon peaked in the latter part of Gen IV, when the beginning of it was so horrible. At least they really took their lessons from the criticism that D/P received.

>The useless gimmicks that only lock out existing content (Pokethalon, Pokewalker)
Seriously, fuck this shit.

DeSmuME is the best and only DS emulator for PC, it runs everything pretty much perfectly.

Who here actually likes all of gen 1-4?

DesMuMe or whatever the fuck it's called on a computer

Drastic on phones

Tin Tower theme a best

yes. It had the cutest protag

Pokemon nostalgiafaggotry is the absolute worst

The remakes are objectively better, if for no other reason than them having a a special/physical split

I do except for Gen III, that's the only gen I can't replay because I always get bored.

I believe a (You) is in order. Here you go

I enjoy them both, but Emerald is better than the remakes.

Did the remakes even have a day/night cycle?

No I prefer Silver
The sprites look right
Pokemon Gold Typlosion looks like satan, Silver is a goalkeeper

Well then you don't really like all of gen 1-4, do you?

well shit you got me there

games don't age, you are the one getting old

drastic on phones
it comes with a essential speed up feature that is missing in desmume

Which is why the word except was used for Gen III

Yeah

No there's no reason to play it since the remakes are better in everyway, unlike the God awful OR/AS

Desmume has a fast forward feature

since when?

>game gives you a Suicune
No

best team rocket

There's probably going to be a shitstorm from me asking this but I'm curious. Does anyone prefer Red and Blue over it's remakes?

I fucking hated the legendary subplot. I preferred when they were still just secrets you could find while exploring, this entire Kimono Girl shit was just retarded.

HGSS's content and quality saved Gen. II from being the most forgettable Gen.

For a while, this version of Desmume that I have is almost two years old

...

yeah, i like red and blue because of how badly i can break it.

Yep, I do. I couldn't even finish FRLG. There was something really off-putting about them, the whole thing felt dead as fuck. It had some funny experimental shit though, with the tv and recap and such.

Claire's redesign makes me diamonds so it's better to me desu

I like them all, even DP. Last three generations are shaky, I kinda like BW1 but can't get myself to replay it whenever I feel like it unlike all the games prior and the two after, I adore BW2, XY I like, and I love/hate both ORAS and SM for completely different reasons.

DP brought back the full day/night cycle after Gen III lacked a visual one, complete with dawn and dusk on top of just day and night.

>tfw my cousin told me the press B + up thing for catching pokemon and I still do it to this day out of habbit when I throw a pokeball

everyone does mang

Well if you like gens 1, 2, and 4 but not three then you don't like all the gens 1-4 because there's one you don't like so you don't get to be a special snowflake like me

The only thing I absolutely hate about the Red/Blue remakes is the fucking reinterpretation of the MC.

He just looks like a dull motherfucker with his brown stubby hair, bright blue ghetto jeans and babbys first Pokemon gear.
I mean LOOK AT IT.

Probably the dullest male player character, but still an improvement upon the original.

>able to revisit entire region of the previous game and battle all of their gym leaders leading up to the fight against the previous Champion of the Elite 4 of the Kanto region
>forgettable
If anything Gen2 is the most memorable game in the entire series.

Long Days and pleasant nights, Iwata. Yellow bastard definitely earned his rest.

>Gen. II from being the most forgettable Gen.
but that's gen3

I was very skeptical about 3 and 4 at first, but they've grown on me. It helps that these two had the best map design and exploration in the series.

5 I didn't like all that much mainly because of the linearity, but also because the story was getting too prominent for me and I really couldn't bring myself to give a single fuck about it. That being said I enjoyed BW2 a lot.
6 was the worts overall, but I still don't dislike it. Not happy about the trends it reinforced with the story, shit map design, and fucking awful exploration though.

Haven't played 7 yet.

The problem being that beating every gym in kanto takes around 2 hours or less even if you milk your time there since every route is shortened to shit and the caves are all gone plus the levels are fucked with gym leaders still being in the low-mid 50s.

It was cool going back but it sounds better that what it really was.

Gen 2 is fucking impeccable. SS/HG are still my favorite Pokemon games. Maybe I'll play crystal again and see if the nostalgia makes it better.

You can't expect to fit an entire additional game into a GBC cartridge so of course sarifices had to be made.

Doesn't mean it didn't blow everyones mind at the time.

In a way. Gen I Pokémon's draw to me is the simplicity behind it. No Natures, no worrying about having to balance EVs since stat experience can max out every stat, no genders, etc. Only things that you might have to worry about are DVs (Gen I/II IVs that are between 0 and 15, but effectively add twice that value to the overall stat), moveset options with the limited TMs and lack of a move rememberer, bag space, and PC space. You have to put up with a lot of primitive limited options, but also don't have to worry about the stuff you do now.

I prefer Krys over Lyra if that's what you're asking.

Yeah that's what I mean it was cool when it came out but I was disappointed when HGSS didn't address the leveling or super short routes problem.

It was still one of my favorite pokemon games it that's huge problem to not fix

>listen to HG/SS Ecruteak City on YouTube

ASFHJF MY EARS

It's probably XY, for a multitude of reasons.

I don't like Gen II at all now. Young me found enough to get 400 hours in HG/SS but current me feels the sheer ASS it is mechanically.

Thats cool and i hope you have fun, for me gen 2 is awful
