MGS2 and Rising are Sup Forums's favorite Metal Gear games though.

Once they get into Raiden's past, his character gets a lot better, IMO.

I liked him. I wasn't blinded by nostalgiafag shit when MGS2 came out since it was my first MGS game back then so I thought both snake and him were cool dudes

MGS2 Raiden is a piece of shit even when you take out the face he replaced Snake. On his own in MGS2 he's still bad

He has plenty of reason in the situation he's in.

MGS2 was like quinton flynn never voice acted before, raiden sounded and acted like ass, and the character sucked because of it. Quinton fixed his performance in 4, but bad writing put him in scenarios that just made him look like a generic anime character. Then rising came along and completely redid the character, fixing almost all the previous mistakes, which, when combined with flynns improved acting skills after 10 years, lead to the best iteration of raiden, and, arguably, one of the better protagonists of the series. Despite this however, most people are still left salty due to how bad mgs2 was in comparison to 1, so they take it out on raiden and say he's a shit character.

Bactracking, horrible characters (Raiden and Rose were the worst in 2), lame bosses, sub-par level design, etc...

Hayter is a shit actor, so i honestly couldn't care less about the main character. The problems with mgs2 go much further than just the choice of protagonist. To start off with, the map design was terrible, extremely cramped, and extremely limited, while also somehow being smaller than mgs1, despite having twice as much backtracking. Continuing off of lack of content, the game lost a large amount of gameplay and story elements to the cutting room, leading to the whole game being butchered as a result. This also results in the game having to be padded out with obviously rushed and gimmicky sections (bomb defusing, underwater/destroyed core segments, etc.) all of this, combined with inferior writing and acting to mgs1, lead to mgs2 being literally the shittiest sequel ever made, despite being an alright game by itself.

He grew on me. I hated Raiden the first time I played MGS2, because I wanted to play with Snake.

But after playing the game once again, I undertood his character and started to like him.

Besides how incredible he is his feats are. He was a random kid that became a child soldier and still was able to surpass Snake is every sense. From defeating the perfect clone of BB, to the 24 rays, defeating Vamp, defeating a harrier. But the important thing is that Raiden became his own man, since mgs2 he was no longer a puppet and he was able to raise a family.

I can see how you think the map is cramped and restrictive. But why do think the bomb defusal segment and water level is rushed? And how does it seem to have any less content than mgs1

I never heated Raiden but I would like him a lot more if he looked like he does in the HD promotional art.

They were obviously added in to replace the several confirmed cut bosses

Hated him at first because of the MGS2 bait and switch.

Funnily enough, once they made him edgy to the point of parody in Rising, I started to like him.
