It really pisses me the fuck off how nobody is producing couch coop (split screen) games anymore

It really pisses me the fuck off how nobody is producing couch coop (split screen) games anymore
The only one that comes to mind aside from all the shitty platform/arcades and CoDs is pic related, then yea there's Halo and GoW but that's literally it.
It doesn't make any sense to me since TVs are getting bigger and bigger so they could easily accomodate a split screen without having to gouge your eyes out
I mean, I get it that vidya players are sad lonely losers but still Jesus Christ
Am I missing something? Why did game producers stop making local multiplayer games?

>couch co-op
>in 2016

I know this site has some morbid obsession with old gaming as if it isn't just pure nostalgia, but come the fuck on.

It's resources consuming. Usually having couch coop involves taking something away elsewhere. I'm not saying you're wrong but that's what it is basically.

If you have a PS4 play some EDF, fantastic couch coop. I think it has a steam release also but dunno about any coop there.

I'm sorry you don't have any real life friends, user

>nobody is producing couch coop (split screen) games anymore

I mean I don't know what you expect. It's not like every single game in the old days was couch coop, and thanks to the ubiquity of the internet online mp is often preferred due to convenience.

I seem to recall the latest halo not having split screen, but I may just be full of shit.

I don't see how you can argue against it, unless it is disingenuous to the type of game it's in. Sure online multiplayer is great, but you can't beat the experience of jamming out with a friend for hours on end then ordering pizza because you can't be fucked cooking etc etc.
As great as it is to be able to commune through the internet, it still doesn't hold a candle to genuine human interaction.

Not to mention resident evil 5 and 6 are co-op.
That being said, he does have a point, couch co op was far more prevalent in previous generations, but then again I agree the feature has been rendered somewhat redundant by the proliferation of fast internet throughout the modern world.

>Why did game producers stop making local multiplayer games?

So everyone HAS to own the system and the game.

Doesn't divinity OS have couch co-op mode?

>tfw it's present day and you still organize couch co-op sessions with your buddies and get 3 player borderlands games going on

Currently running an all axton playthrough. Everyone went with rocket turrets... complete fucking mayhem.

Even fucking racing games dont have it anymore. RACING GAMES! the fucking audacity of this! What are they thinking?!

Nigger the point is exactly the opposite I have p-plenty of real life friends and I want to play videogames with them while being in the same room because I'm not a anxious sociopathic

The internet is an almost universal thing now. Why visit somebody's house to play vidya with them when you can play with them from home? Why bother developing and including the feature if very few people are going to use it?
Also, Xbox live means that it is in the developers favor to not include it so they can gouge more money out of you to be able to play with your friends.

I think it does, but isn't that basically a top-down rpg? Never played it tho

>Why visit somebody's house

>you can't beat the experience of jamming out with a friend for hours on end then ordering pizza because you can't be fucked cooking
This

Looks fun I'll check it out
That's always entertaining and fun as hell I hope they'll make a new one soon

>jamming out with a friend for hours on end
Is this what they call ass fucking these days? Times are a changing indeed.

>isn't that basically a top-down rpg
Yes, with turn based combat.

there are lots of indie couch coop games

>I think it has a steam release also but dunno about any coop there.
It did release on steam and it does have splitscreen.

Are there any good recent coop games? LAN or online

Helldivers

Didn't know BL2 had split-screen multiplayer. Seems completely fucking pointless.

Also you're a faggot.

Dude how can you forget Knack 2?

Basically this. They make more money by having everyone buy buy their own controller/console/game. The resource limitations plays a technical role as well.

The real problem is a combination of consoles, and really, really bad optimization.

Console are severely underpowered, and don't have the power to render one scene at an upscaled resolution at a decent frame rate, so two or more is totally out of the question.

Pretty much all software nowadays, and by extension video games, is bruteforced to work. Piles and piles of libraries and spaghetti code written by underpaid interns. Everything uses way too much resources because they know they can just make the consumer buy the latest CPU and GPUs.

It's easier to implement multiplayer as online only instead of actually making the game well or having decent hardware.
