so, what game? sounds actually interesting

>Soulsbornlike

>roguelike

dragon's dogma

>Its hard like Dark Souls!

Dark Souls

youtu.be/Jw1m2M8JdkU

oh god, fucking why

That's the joke, it's 2 incredibly different styles that mediocre game devs use to peak interest of us naive consumers.

DELET THIS

I mean if Vaatividya likes it and says it's souls-like, it's probably not that bad.

who

I think you mean pique

>peak
pique

But dagons dargma is nothing like souls, whoever said that is a fucking retard. It's closer to dragon age then skyrim as well.

So it's King's Field?

the first thing that come's up when you search let it die is dark souls

Can somebody explain to me how Dark Souls became such a normie game? Is it because it appeals to that massive "DUDE MEDIEVAL FANTASY RPG LMAO" demographic?

I have come across Dark Souls players who have never even heard of Demon's Souls or Bloodborne.

the guy being edited in that video is vaatividya, who spends all his lifeblood analyzing DS lore.

Fromsoft's marketing + the game going viral on the internet

>spends all his lifeblood analyzing DS lore

definition of autism

>it's a mix of shit and shit

It's a slightly more difficult than average game that most people and normies can beat.
So they beat it and it gives them a really petty sense of accomplishment. That and the Bamco lolthisgameissohard marketing garbage which sucked in a ton of tools and stupid streamers and YouTubers.

>Can somebody explain to me how Dark Souls became such a normie game?

Well, I bet no one can because this simply isn't true.

People might know what it is and that it's """hard""", but I'm sure as hell that they haven't played them, especially on PC, where the port is absolute shit and you need to do a lot of stuff to get the game working.

>haven't play it themselves

fix'd

>the port is absolute shit
True.
>you need to do a lot of stuff to get the game working
The game will "work" right out the box.
However to unlock the fps and allow for higher resolutions all you need to do is download and unpack a file into your game directory. Hardly any trouble at all.

Dragon's Dogma is a poor man's Dragon Age: Inquisition.

...

...

...

>Hardly any trouble at all.

For us. Now try to imagine you explaining this shit to Chad.

>uh, higher what
>uuhh, fps? what it is?

Normal people are more stupid than you think.

>People might know what it is and that it's """hard""", but I'm sure as hell that they haven't played them, especially on PC, where the port is absolute shit and you need to do a lot of stuff to get the game working.

Well guess what.

You're wrong.

That's actually true, you have a point there.

>Shovel Knight
>Soulslike

>implying that someone is stupid for not knowing vidya terminology

>but I'm sure as hell that they haven't played them, especially on PC, where the port is absolute shit and you need to do a lot of stuff to get the game working.

>plug in controller
>game works
whoa

And since when does Chad care about fps or resolution?

>port is absolute shit
better graphics, 60fps, looks pretty superior to me

>need to do a lot of stuff to get the game working
copy and paste some files into game directory, it's not a rocket science

never 9getti spaghetti

Who is that pic quoting?

Funny thing is he looks and talks like such a chad. But you can tell from his videos, souls is his motherfucking life.

I like the guy though, his comfy voice got me into the series.

I want to the give me exactly ONE term there that was created exclusively for vidya.

>Story rich

>42.2% of people haven't even lit the first flame

Achievements were added a time after release.

Achievemnts were added long after game was released.

>this shit again

Go look up the achievements for any game and you'll see similar results.

Tons of people don't finish games.

The end user cares even if they don't know the technical terms.
>user this shit runs better on my Xbox! I thought you said the PC version was better?
>WHOA you totally fixed it! The models look a little better, too. What'd you do?

>don't finish
>getting to the bonfire requires making your character & walking 5 minutes

>5 minutes
try like 30 seconds

fps is something that's known by normies though
I know because I'm a normie when it comes to vidya

>game has achievement for starting the game
>78% have it

You can still piece together some things from this even if it's incomplete.
>1/6 of players never beat the tutorial boss
>half the playerbase never beat gargoyles
>only a third of players made it to anor londo

Why are you here then?

>woah, this port is straight up garbage
>proceed to never come back
didn't see it coming

because Sup Forums

Different reviews for the game. I googled one of the quotes and it linked to the Gamespot review.

...

>pc "gaming"

pewdiepie and other yotube cancer memed it into le hardest game ever

...

>It's the E-van-je-lion of vidya gaems

well, most likely you will spend some time exploring controls
looking around
attacking the enemies

I'll agree 5 minutes is very generous, but hey

Successful marketing campaign + it went viral. It was doomed to be a mainstream game series after the PC port did so well.
Funny enough the game was fairly niche before Prepare to Die Edition.

37 percent of all games purchased on Steam are never opened. A large percentage of people bought it on sale and then never bothered to play it.

A pretty high % of people don't play few even the first few minutes of games.Only about 80% of people complete the first chapter of Telltale games and that's just the first few minutes with maybe 1 quick time event.

...

piquemind

>it's like a mix of tetris and crysis.

Because I don't feel like wasting $60 on shit I've never played

...

Both are shit games.

>37 percent of all games purchased on Steam are never opened. A large percentage of people bought it on sale and then never bothered to play it.
then don't bring up the sales numbers like it shows the game is bought by a bunch of normies

>it's like Dark Souls with the Witcher protagonist!

what I really liked about Dragon Age Inqusition was their tarot art. That was all. Dragon Dogma's artbook was great as well.

>It's witcher with dark souls combat

>It's like a mix of dark souls and nintendogs

I call it bark souls

>This game isn't hard its unfair you should play Dark Souls/Dark Souls X they do difficulty "right"

My favorite meme by stupid people. The second they play a actual challenging game after playing Souls shit they default to claiming its just not fair.

>then don't bring up the sales numbers like it shows the game is bought by a bunch of normies

Dark Souls is a normie game though. No matter how you spin it.

For comparison's sake, GTAV sold 6 million copies on Steam, that's one of the best selling video games ever made. Dark Souls managed to sell half of that, Dragon's Dogma couldn't even manage a fifth of Dark Souls sales.

Dark Souls is the "lmao so hard XD" normie game, sorry.

Because it was good

>it's like dark souls but it takes place in ye olde england
I call it hark souls

(You)

He he he

>For comparison's sake, GTAV sold 6 million copies on Steam
unlike dark souls, GTAV has a second platform
one with a lot of games as well since all retailer copies had that and not steam

a more accurate figure would most likely be 15-20 mil

That actually is a reasonable way to describe Dragon's Dogma though.

They're not so different as to be completely incompatible though because there are similarities at a fundamental level.

There is a Dark Souls mod for Skyrim after all. I know that's not a great example of my point since it's really not that great of a mod, which is largely because Skyrim is shit, but you can see by looking at how it works that it's at least passable for a mod to make a game more like Dark Souls, which wouldn't really be possible if both games were so entirely different.

That's Salt and Sanctuary, and it's actually a great SOULSLIKE game.

>a more accurate figure would most likely be 15-20 mil

No, because almost all PC games are now sold digitally. Like 80% and almost all of those are from Steam.

Muh graffix is what normies care about the most

>It's like dark souls but it takes place in a shoe shop

I call it dark soles

You're 50% right

>it's like a mix of dark souls and spacechem
i call it quark souls

>It's like Dark Souls but you play as a theoretical physicist

I call it Quark Souls

>It's like a mix of dark souls and persona
I call it dark schools

woah
