>body horror >death and depression as major themes >family rejection and disowning >insanity driven by grief over a lost loved one >metaphors to an 11-y/o about growing old and withering away
Sun and Moon was such a massive tonal shift over previous games, but why is that?
Brayden Sullivan
To compensate for rehashing the gameplay for like the sixth time.

>I like this game for kids let's try to find a more obscure theme to it so I don't get ashamed by playing it
I'm sure you find my little pony very deep

It sucks
Just let me fucking play the game and don't force feed hours of cutscenes down my throat. I'm ok with hours and hours of cutscenes if I actually care about the story (see: MGS4, FFX), but I play Pokemon to play Pokemon and not get some half assed story constantly thrown at my face.
I can't bring myself to go further in this game cause of this.

>Sun and Moon was such a massive tonal shift over previous games, but why is that?
Wasn't the whole catalyst of X/Y's plot about genocide, revenge, overpopulation, war and a 3000 year old nuke powered by Pokemon energy?
Jackson Lopez
>Lusamine fuses with Nihilego and becomes some kind of freakish jellyfish monster >Characters are shown to overall be depressed or distraught, and death is mentioned and discussed several times in several points of the game >Lusamine essentially rejects her daughter and son because they're "ugly" and "unfit" for the world she wants >Mohn disappears into the Ultra Wormhole and Lusamine goes insane as she tries to find him, and due to a combination of grief, obsession to get him back, and Nihilego venom, ultimately becomes point #1
Charles Clark
Fuck off to your containment board.
Josiah Garcia
I'm not trying to /find/ things that make it more adult, I'm pointing out the fact that it's notably darker than games in the past, don't try to be edgy and wangst about that

>Pokemon are our friends and trusted companions! >Also they eat each other alive haha nature is cruel amirite guys

We've been over this. Pokemon topics appear on Sup Forums BECAUSE they feel like they must let normies and lapsed Pokemon fans know what the series has done lately.
They're not posting blindly, they're shedding light on what's been going on.

>>Also they eat each other alive haha nature is cruel amirite guys Pokemon having predatory behavior isn't a new addition.

Don't forget child abuse and self doubt.
I liked the story, so that's just a subjective problem.

A veteran trainer redpills the player character that being a trainer isn't as glorious or sustainable as the previous games make it sound.
Parker Roberts
It's from the guy in OP's image. He says something like "Hey, kid, you taking the island challenge? I used to be like you, ya know. I kind of miss it. I ended up failing though, and now I'm settled down with a wife and kid, while I'm working here for minimum wage to fight my new challenge: mortgage payment".

how can people play games at this resolution in 2017? really speaks to the power of brand loyalty
Ryan Gutierrez
Kids just press A through the story scenes. The story has slightly more mature themes in newer releases because the target audience is getting older. the easier gameplay is to make up for it for the younger children who are also the target.
