Another part of it, too. Both from what I recall, and what I think they were going for is that Cloud is an "unreliable storyteller" of sorts. Part of it is definitely him going nuts, but I think he wanted, if only sub-consciously, was to make sure that Tifa didn't think he was fuck-up.
Even though Cloud considered himself a first-class and acted the part, he never called himself Zack, so he wasn't entirely crazy.
I think his lowest point, outside of the coma, was that he started to believe his own bullshit, so that reality wake-up call pretty much tore him up.

True, but Kitase's the producer this time, and he's already expressed concerns about things they'd have to change to accomodate modern protection laws, while Nomura just sort of laughed when the subject was brought up.

Not that I can blame him; it's his job to worry about ratings, but I just hope he doesn't let his concerns affect the important stuff.

I don't think he came to terms with it so much as just forced himself to move on. FFVII only happens over the course of about a month and a half. You don't get over shit like that so fast.

The worst case was when he told the flashback story in Kalm, and Tifa knew he was dead serious about thinking that he was Zack. He seriously thought he was in Zack's place with Sephiroth during the story, even though Tifa knew he wasn't because she still remembered everything that went down.
By the time the disc 3 event can happen, Cloud is back to normal, and I'm assuming he can clearly remember everything fucking up, despite being borderline overdosed at the time.

As much as I hate to say it, that's probably why he was so depressed during advent children.

Now that he was of a, at least more, sound mind, he had to truly come to terms with everything and struggled with doing so.

I really hope Cloud cross dresses as lightning in the Remake

One thing that always annoyed me was how SOLDIER was supposed to be this ELITE group of operators Shinra had, yet in the game you never encounter any of them, or even know if the group still exists. it's like their purpose in the story got stolen by the Turks or something.
