How do you feel about emulation filters?

how do you feel about emulation filters?

...

For sprites, it makes the game look far worse and I usually leave them off.

For 3D games, it depends. As long as it doesn't make it look too weird, I will turn some of it on.

they are good because they are optional and customisable

I want to upscale and use texture filtering for DS games but desmume won't let me.

Mednafen on RA can use filtering and upscaling though so that's pretty cool, they also fixed the jittering to some degree, though it still needs some work.

simple bilinear filtering is all that i can tolerate

Gimme the real deal.

>unironically posting about piracy on Sup Forums

New here, scum?

its nice that its there

...

thank god someone posted this, i was about to ask
shit always makes me laugh

>>Emulators are piracy
Weird, how old are you?

Scanlines are the only way to play.

>filtering pixel art

EVERY TIME

...

...

It's not the same as real cathode rays coming from a crt. These fake crt filters just cause more eye fatigue than anything else.

I like this, can't find it though.

Because there's a room where the light won't find you

Literally only identifiable through the thumbnail.

This looks okay I guess.

Only if you got the composite.

The game is called Gunmetal Arcadia i believe. Was on my steam queue yesterday

Jesus my eyes

>Pixel smoothing
Looks absolutely fucking terrible

The way God intended.

this. everyone here hand-dumps their own copies

That's a standalone Steam game with an integrated filter, more advanced than any emulator filter I know of. I can't remember the name of the game right now, but TheGreatGQ was playing it a couple weeks ago on his stream.

...

that's goood

cheers m8s

I wish I could get the games to look this good.

Third post best post.

>G/S on the Super Gameboy
WHY.

If you need to play it on the TV, at least use Pokémon Stadium 2.

looks like crtlottes to me

This is what OP's game looks like on a real TV.

are there any filters that can accomplish something similar to what composite does?

Better pic.

...

...

several, some emulators have a composite option built in, I use crt-lottes halation and have tweaked it to simulate composite blur without the noise. Sonic 1/2 waterfalls are great to test pixel blending.

it doesnt look good

nearest neighbor or gtfo

The Way It Was Meant To Be Played™

I use them for 2D stuff when playing on an lcd to keep the pixels from looking too sharp and blocky.

This only works with games where it fits the aesthetic. Putting a filter on Earthbound makes it look like a cartoon. PERFECT

...

I see, thx user

...

would you happen to be of the MANN family?

...

This is the only acceptable filter for a sprite game.

This looks offensively bad.

Always and will be the defining choice to playing video games.

Does the game actually run like this? Post video of gameplay.

>crt filter for a system that didn't have any

???

It's being played on a real tv.

If you emulate gameboy games without a proper dot matrix filter and blur set to MAX, then you're doing it wrong

...

stop making this shit look like pearler beads

It's been a bit since I've played anything on a proper CRT, but I don't remember actively -seeing- scan lines. It wasn't something that ever stood out. Which is why I don't understand all of these thick ass scan line filters

When they do i'll be right behind you

Because I'm sure you were playing on a composite picture.

Can you get the oscilloscope to display Chrono Trigger?

You are cool.

And we love you, you are our friend. You're special.

I feel like it's not so much a matter of being too sharp as simply being too big.

...

sometimes I see someone post a screen on Sup Forums that looks like it has some sort of photoshop artistic filter, looks like it might be kinda trippy and cool, anyone know of any that fit that description?

This one?

raw pixels look like trash

Left looks better

This is not what a GameBoy screen looks like.

pretty much, what's it called?

it looks like this.

There are cel, paint, and the storybook shaders you can use in Dolphin, reshade, or PS1 and 2 emulators. I don't know if they're available to other emus.

nah, it looks as flat as a loli's chest

With SOUL STEAL.
