3DS will probably limp along till the Switch Lite or whatever they decide to call it comes out in 2018 just like the GBA hobbled along until the DS Lite was released.
My guess is that it will reduce the size of the bezel and drop the detachable joycons (3DS slide pads instead of sticks, WiiU analog positions, a d-pad) without reducing the screen size.
Then in 2019 we'll get the even smaller and cheaper model and a new big switch.

Because literally the only piece of substantiated evidence we have vis a vis the power of the switch, is that both Skyrim Remastered and Dark Souls 3 will run on it without a hitch, and it runs BoTW at a higher framerate and draw distance than on the WiiU, so I'm not sure where your "Underpowered" talk is coming from
