where are eMakumaku, mekumeku, mokumoku and mikumiku? Why aren't you having a full flying superhero squirrel squad?
>tfw still haven't gotten every character after several playthroughs over many years
:(
What game
Zoids
>Mukamuka wasn't invited
Suikoden II
Sukoden 2
Sikoden ii
Suikoden II (EU)
Sudoku.
Suikoden II [NTSC-U]
>108 party members
>most of them are trash or recolors
What was the point?
God that game is average asf jrpg is my favourite genre
pupupu
They were really running out of ideas for the 108 companions.
i thought the other squirrels didn't even count to the 108
Only Mukumuku is a star, user. The other 4 are companions with no star
There are 108 stars, but more than 108 companions
He means there's a companion you can find and it would restrict you from getting all 108 stars.
>most of them are trash or recolors
.... did you even play the game? Every party members is visually unique and easy to stop in the game
easy to spot* in the game
>S3
>3 Vikki's
Even the squirrels have their own unique personalities within their portraits and sprites.
There are more than 108 recruitable characters
maybe you should play the game
>there are people who skipped Suikoden I before playing Suikoden II
>they will never understand all the character arcs coming full circle like Futch or Flik's amongst others
I think there were 115 (+ main character) but I'm not sure. It was years since my last playthrough
>>there are people who skipped Suikoden I before playing Suikoden II
I'm still amazed people recommend 2 and over the first game.
But characters like Futch go on to future games
In Suikoden III, Futch has Humphreys sword and Bright is a full dragon
What's going on here?
Because Suikiden 1 is pretty bad relatively.
I'd personally recommend people simply downloading a gamesave of 1 and reading the main story points on a wiki
!!!!!
>~70 playable characters
>have enough personality to be memorable beyond stats
I still don't know how Chrono Cross fucked it up that badly in the same department.
I think that guy was a ranger or something and that wolf was his best friend. You recruit them together.
I think this could be interpreted as "hoe stole my best friend" or "did you forget bros before hoes?"
>Because Suikiden 1 is pretty bad relatively.
it's really not. sequel is just expanded version of the original, but also somewhat padded in the second half. first game is short at 20ish hours, but it also doesn't waste your time at any point.
>Suikoden is dead and there will never EVER be another game like it
I'm glad I got the chance to experience it.
I'm amazed at how retardedly awful the localization at some spots (Freed Y, Jowy) and yet still managed to be extremely consistent in towns, names, etc. even throwaway references among both games.
Like in Layton games released decades later with a high budget localization, the third game refers to the main antagonist of the 2nd game as fucking "Anthony" instead of Anton in the one reference to him, yet Suikoden literally NEVER dropped the ball on this despite the awful translation
I like Suikoden 1 more personally because it's really short.
Has no filler too so it's really well paced. Very enjoyable for a 15-20 hour RPG.
A lot of what you are talking about was fixed in the European release
Along with a few bugs
only 1 rune per character really screws with the gameplay
passive runes in particular seem like a waste, unless you're bringing people along only for their unite attacks anyway

tfw you will never just chill around in HQ
I would sell my soul for a Suikoden Mobage.
>mfw HQ expands
Fucking statue plans, man.
thinking of buying suikoden 3 on psn.
is there a way for me to download a complete save of 2 onto my ps3 before starting it?
>Murayama wrote a chronological prequel for his story and used that instead in order not to waste the Suikoden II script due to his lack of experience
If you played both suikoden 1 & 2 you will have deja vu in some parts. They are still good games although end boss for suikoden 2 is garbage.
Luca Blight should have been the end boss. One of, if not, the most satisfying boss fights in all games I ever played
When the fuck is Konami getting the whole series on steam?
suikoden 1 and 2 soundtracks never get enough credit, particular the latter which saw miki higashino put together a four disk soundtrack.
>went on maternity leave
>could basically never again get a job in the industry
I always liked Suikoden I's HQ music more. It has a long buildup then gets good
youtube.com
>tfw Suikoden II's second HQ theme which you hear for most of the game would be good if it didn't have that random earrape part thrown in the middle for no reason
I actually liked that game keeps going even after Blight because, after all, wars don't stop simply because you killed the guy in charge. Everything after that point is essentially a tragedy of people not knowing when to give up.
Luca being the end boss would not fit the theme this game was going for since you need to have Jowy in the throne for a while to be on par with MC like two sides of the same coin like their True Runes. I do agree part 2 was weaker, especially the Tinto part, but part of the charm of the series is the expanded world, you feel like there is more happening in the back than the initial conflict, so Viktor needs to have his resolution.
That's basically Jowy's reason for fighting. How do you tell a nation that we should just make peace after all the fighting between the two?
Suikoden 2's second overworld theme is one of the best I've heard. It's great adventure with military undertones and that buildup to 0:30 is amazing.
The wolf clearly knotted the girl and is waiting for his dick to go limp.
youtube.com
I really like this song when you start in Viktor's and Flik's mercenary camp
I was actually mad when the music changed for my HQ in Suikoden 2 because the first theme is so fucking good.
youtube.com
Goddamn, it always takes me there.
>yfw Luc was the villain in 3
Yo, is Jowy getting his dick sucked?
I think the entire problem with 3 is that it's largely inconsequential considering it was obviously a calm before the storm. It was basically a small border skirmish after which story was supposed to go balls deep to Harmonia.
So can we agree that making ice boats to fight the imperial navy in Suikoden was a dumb idea?
he meant that to get back gremio you'll need a fucking guide to recruit everyone since there are some missable characters
>you never saw Suikoden's graphics improve to the point it could capture all the loving details of it's artwork
That's what she gets for defying the Jews and trying to solve Japan's population crisis.
>join thread expecting a barrage of insults to suikoden
>people are reminiscing about the good times

loved her music. thats a dayum shame.

>letting older true rune users manipulate you
FUCK YOU LEKNAAT I DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT BALANCE
>108 characters
>force nanami on you every time
FUCK YOU NANAMI I WANT THAT BLACK KNIGHT DUDE OR GRIFFIN TO BE ON MY TEAM FUCK OFF
jowston city states were pure shit.

>your face when this
Suikoden should've learned to use convoy ability a bit earlier. It's pretty much one of the few things S5 did right by letting you convoy anyone so you're not stuck with sub-par characters in important battles just because story demands their presence.
I don't mind game progressing further but end boss was weak in comparison.
Even if you know how to beat Luca on your 2nd walkthrough the process still makes him a worthwhile enemy.
2 attacks per turn. All his attacks are area of effect attacks where he fucks someone's day and still deals tons of dmg around his primary target
You ambush the fucker.
You need to fight him with 3 parties. Every party needs to reduce his health. If he wins against a party his remaining health transfers to next stage.
You fight him in the duel, when he is badly wounded, and he can still kill you.
My point is, game made him a badass through narration and when you finally come to the point to fight the dude the battle is not a disappointment.
Holy fuck the opening still gets me pumped AS FUCK.
THAT CHOIR IS FUCKING AMAZING TO THIS DAY.
Anyone know how I get past this guy to recruit Tir?
>he actually attacks female characters in your party more, particularly Sierra
Nice touch.
>Suikoden is gone and will never come back except some mobile / pachinko abortion like Breath of Fire 6
Im in a weird state between crushing sadness and complete rage
You need to have a complete Suikoden 1 save file and import it when you start the game.
change his name from Hcdohl to whatever your characters name was from s1
Flesh eating spores
>getting teary eyes watching a video game intro
I have problems.
Even though it got translated I never felt like playing pic related.
Maybe someday.
Didn't the director for this game die and the dev team decided not to make more in his honor?
>I don't mind game progressing further but end boss was weak in comparison.
I fully agree, but that was always the case with Suikoden final bosses. They're just something for you to fight because they don't lend themselves to kind of stories Suikoden games tell.
Hi, I'm one of the best town themes in a JRPG.
No, he left halfway through 3, that's why the latter half of 3 and 4 were such a fuckfest.
RIP Suikoden.
No but I think Luca is in the top left.
That based mother fucker.
>Those trumpets towards the end
youtube.com
feeling kick in at 0:35 mark
i always hear about how people loved fighting him, but for me he was always just some obnoxious douche that needed to be put down
i always felt the fact he was 'powerful' was just for the sake of gameplay and not any reflection to the strength of his actual character
the timing of the yellow, blue, & red lights in the intro entering and leaving the screen correspond to the the MC, jowy, & nanami
No that's Grandia.
And now I'm double sad.
>you need to defeat 108 soldiers at the intro for this to be in colour
why
>fun cooking game like iron chef
but
>music glitches
fuck konami.
>unlockable by fighting the highland warriors 108 times
JESUS CHRIST
Its been over a decade how did I never know about this.
>Those simple sprites but still maximum feels
i agree with you on that luca being powerful for the sake of gameplay.
should have been end game boss not some faggot like the beast rune and the sloppy 2nd characters of highland.
Because Suikoden 2's sprites are really not simple. Nice bump in size helped, but there's also a lot of additional animation cycles there.
2min poorly animated intro
2min of sprite animated story
And yet some games use hours and hours and don't even explain nearly as much as this.
Suikoden II has one of my favorite moments from games where gameplay and story is integrated based on what the player is conditioned to do.
In the first act of the game, Jowy is always in your party, and his and Riou's Unite attack does huge damage at no cost to ever enemy on the field. So it's drilled into your head that "if there are multiple enemies on screen, use this move".
Later, when Riou and Jowy are at opposite ends of a war and have to fight one fight together to avenge Nanami, you fight literally the only boss battle in the game where there's multiple regular mooks surrounding the boss.
At this point you have a bunch of nuke-tier spells which could wipe them out anyway, but your old instinct kicks in, and you pick the Unite attack. Riou and Jowy do it one last time, and there's a unique animation for it.
It's so good. Another moment like this is in Shadow of the Colossus, when Wander is getting sucked into the thing and the player can control his movements to fight back, and it handles like a Colossus trying to throw you off. When Wander is being dragged up a few steps the player instinctively hits R1 to grab on like they have all game, and he actually holds on to the stairs as he's being pulled away. You can hold on till your stamina meter runs out, and it really added to the immersion
Art from adversity. It doesn't seem logical, but having a ton of resources gives you ton of potential which can lead to not really knowing what to do.
>i always felt the fact he was 'powerful' was just for the sake of gameplay and not any reflection to the strength of his actual character
I actually disagree. I think his strength was fitting. His father, the king, running away and leaving his son and wife to enemy soldiers. Seeing his mother being raped by enemy soldiers. Seeing his father, the coward in his eyes, make a peace treaty with the enemy.
His only goal in life is to burn southern city-states to the ground.
He has proper motivation, mental breakdown. If he wanted to achieve his goal he couldn't allow himself to be a pushover.
>tfw life was shit and you feel worthless
>Suikoden 2 tells how every person, no matter how small, has his worth
Thank you Suikoden
I had a similar phase and then curing from Tales of the Abyss.
Strange, I don't remember Suikoden II having that as a core message. The "war is grey" theme sure came out strong though
