So how will SE fuck up the best character in the remake?
FFVII remake

HE BETTER $@%#&+% CURSE LIKE A SAILOR!
How different was English Cid to Japanese Cid? He feels like a character where translators took a lot of artistic liberties.
Of course. It's just a matter of how much they fuck him up.
Same goes for the rest of the remake.
the cursing is probably the first thing that's going to be stripped out unfortunately
its been so long since I played FF7 so I cant remember, but was Cid a playable character? like could you invite him to your party?
Japanese Cid used a lot of 'japanese' insults and innuendos that make no sense to the west, so in the English version they made him swear a lot.
I still like him. He's one of the few legit manly characters in FF.
Yes, he joins your party. He also flies the airship.
Make him a black transgendered midget.
what weapon/limit break did he have?
He used a spear. I forget his limit break. He was basically FF7's dragoon.
He wields spears and lances. Characters in ff7 had as many as 9 limit break atracks; cid's first was just a jump in the air nd land that did damage to own target, and his final limit break was calling the airship to bomb the enemies.
Squenix don't give a fuck about political correctness though.
He's a guy who had his life's dream slip through his fingers and has nothing left, leaving him as a hateful and bitter husk of a man. Despite that, he's still a good person deep down, a side that shows more and more as the game goes on.
They can fuck it up by ruining his character arc; making him too nice at the start or not changing later. Or they can go way over the top and exaggerate how much of an asshole he is.
As long as they at least faithfully recreate the tea scene with a hammy ass
>drink your damn TEA
they can grow his beard out and give him hipster glasses for all I care. Just give me a little taste of what could have been, but never will be.
kek
Honestly I feel like they need to tone down the swearing because it'll be voice acted so the cavalcade of &*^&^#*@#^@#* will come across kinda dumb.
Still have him swear plenty, but probably not to the same extent. It's more about the general demeanour, really.
In my mind he'll always be voiced by pic related since I played the game shortly after watching Deadwood, and the constant swearing and personality seemed like such a perfect match.
Either that or experiment with sound effects until they find something genuinely funny to replace the swearing, because that level of swearing was mainly used for lighter moments.
When Barret and Cid would lose their shit so much the text box would be nothing but symbols it was some of the funniest fucking moments of VII
I hate Final Fantasy, but I think 7 is pretty okay.
The game will be dead before Cid even appears
Yeah exactly, being in text is kinda what made it funny, I'm not sure how they could carry that over to a voice acted game. Bleeping stuff out would just seem too dumb I feel.
Let me guess, he just screamed TEME, KORRA, FUZAKENNA, YAROU, and KUSO all the time?
If Arthur and SpongeBob can make it funny, why can't Final Fantasy?
because video games suck, the writing will be awful, and the voice acting will be trash :(
If they got creative with the bleeping it'd work
But the Japs don't know humor. They think retarded shit akin to the word red and fish being the same means that it's funny when someone says they like the color red but get a fish stapled to their shirt instead or something FUCK they're dumb
He has the best weapon for materia growth: Javelin, and the best limit break: Highwind (tied with Ungarmax if in lucky 7's).
He's just the best character all around desu.
You okay there buddy?
It's Square Enix. They made Thi4f. The game with the most out-of place contrived cringeworthy profanity you can find. They went out of their way to make characters say fuck all the time to the point where it doesn't sound anything like natural human speech.
You'd be surprised.
Humor by omission is an actual thing.
>Man, I could kiss you on the [bleep]; (other character turns to look at him in horror)
>Well, slap my on the [bleep] and call me a [bleeeeeep]
>(long sequence of mouth movements accompanied by) [bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep]
It's like reverse madlibs. Nothing you could put in those bleeps would be as humorous as the effect created by censoring it.
This would require competent screenwriting though, which I doubt SE can muster.
>made
*published meant to say
>never played the original FF7 because fuck turn-based combat
>remake has action combat a la Kingdom Hearts
Thank fuck
>I HATE WORDPLAY
...
I guarantee you he won't hit his assistant.
>to the point where it didn't sound anything like human speech
I was in the army and I knew people who could use fuck as every major part of speech in a sentence. For instance, "Fuck you, you fucking fuck" is actually a very understandable sentence.
Honestly, i'm both anticipating and dreading the localization. Not because of fear of censorship but because who knows how literal or how liberal they might be with the dialogue this time. I'd rather take good Woolseyisms over being too literal to the Japanese dialogue, but the gameplay trailer last year already showed Barret is going to be straight-laced like his Japanese self compared to the US's Mr. T with a gun arm.
Sure, call me a nostalgic fool, but I don't want the characters to be potentially boring.
I might have to replay the game for the 15th time, but I don't recall him ever hitting shera. He badmouths her when the tea isn't ready and then walks out because Palmer shows up and he wants to talk to Rufus about the space program.
>defending bad localizations
Why?
The team behind Thi4f and the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake have no overlap. At all.
No shit because it never happened in the original
VII's localization was weird and shoddy, but it also had charm.
Just because something's more accurate won't assure it's more interesting.
In the shuttle if I'm remembering right. Smacks a bitch up.
we won't see him until episode 12 anyway
I don't mean constant overuse, I mean forcing it in parts of sentence where it doesn't fit, the voice actors know it doesn't, and you can hear them forcing it in the audio of the final product.
They censor his smoking
Probably not. FFXV had a few shits and god damns and it was rated T
I doubt they'll eliminate the swearing.
Tone it down a bit maybe.
I know. But it's the same publisher, so that isn't the limiting factor when it comes to the questionable aspects of the game.
Shera's not in the shuttle with him. She's at his house and tells you to go see him at the rocket. They're not in the same room as each other in the flashback because cid's In the control room and Shera's near the fuel tanks.
Now that I think about it, the malfunction in the rocket may have been inspired by the challenger explosion. Hm.
Actually the Japanese and western arms of Squenix are operated pretty much completely differently. They have different blacklists for who to send review copies to, for example.
If they fuck up his theme I'll be dropping the series
Probably the better example is that FFXV has plenty of swearing.
This is the best opinion in this thread.
Songs I will be looking out particularly for
>Aeris' Theme
>Tifa's Theme
>On The Other Side Of The Mountain
>Crazy Motorcycle
>Battle and Boss Themes
>It's Hard to Walk On Two legs
>Jenova's Theme
Best song for worst fighting character
youtu.be
>On The Other Side Of The Mountain
You won't be hearing this one anytime soon
You can cheese Cait Sith's slots so it always gets instant death. It's such a big deal that there are 2 categories of speed run of ff7: slots and no slots.
forgot BAKA, retard
YAMETEEEE!
KUROSUZO OMAIWA
Seriously, why give him a sweater around his waist? How dare they turn Cid in to a faggot.
Episodic games were a mistake.
Maybe he quit smoking after FF7's events because he was less stressed.
