Valve hasn't made a video game in nearly 10 years, what do you think? Half Life is literally the only game they themselves have made, as opposed to just paying modders to make their content 'official games'.

HL3 isn't happening, because Valve aren't game developers anymore. They haven't been for years. They're a publisher at best with a fairly hands off approach to actual game development, and are more focused on hardware and storefront management now.

This. Valve has shown that they're stuck in time. What they did with HL2 was fantastic but let's be honest - it was the same exact thing as HL1 in terms of gameplay and mechanics, sure there was the ohysics engine and better graphics but overall you still feel that it's an old school video game.
If they went ahead and made HL3 it wouldn't be able to amaze and live up to the hype, simply because Valve aren't that good at making video games anymore.

What if HL3 were made into a movie instead of a game? We already know Bad Robot have the rights to that universe, and there's already supposedly a Portal movie in the works. I reckon it could work, as long as the director knew what he was doing and there wasn't too much executive meddling.

Any other company at close to their level. Don't think of Valve in terms of EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Zenimax, etc., rather they are really closer to Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Facebook, Amazon, Google, etc.

Making that comparison, it's easy to see why they still have 'fans'. They're basically the only megacorp of their significance with even a shred of humanity (Google still tries, bless them, but they started slipping past 'no return' some time ago).

Have all been 'leaked' to us through 'accidental inclusions' in updates to other games. We've also had a massive leak through the VR Benchmark App which gave us pic related and other juicy bits, like a human-faced GLaDOS.

'HLVR' has been particularly mobile, growing rapidly in 'leaks' over a few weeks earlier this year. It is most likely their next VR project, most likely not HL3 itself but definitely a combat-oriented FPS experience, set in the same universe. The specific emphasis on weapons and features of HL1 that weren't in HL2 may suggest it to be a VR version or VR support for Black Mesa and/or Half-Life 2.

The films are probably due out in 2017, as well.

It would be cool to have a Half Life VR game that's a collection of some of the best bits from the games translated into fun bitesize VR experiences. Like hitting headcrabs with a crowbar, playing basketball with dog, racing along the antlion beach etc

Hmm, I've heard artists talk about how great it is working with source 2, like realistic game artists. Which makes me think. Recently said comments too.
