Honest question, do you think gaming is getting better?
It seems like big budget games are just underperforming left and right; are normies leaving gaming and just spending more time on social medias instead? Do you think we are seeing a slight shift towards more "core" focused games?
William Watson
No.
Noah Moore
Fuck no. Everything needs to crash before it gets better.
Kevin Cox
No
Juan Morales
>Fuck no. Everything needs to crash before it gets better.
I would argue we are in the middle of the crash right now.
It's not like that shit happens over night.
Henry Reyes
Yeah.
We're just getting more cynical about it.
There are more people making more genres of games now than any time in our history.
Yeah, you DO have to wade through alot of shit to get to the gems, but I'd rather have 100 good games out of 10,000 than 10 games out of 100
Jaxson Scott
I'd really not wade through shit. 10 games out of a 100 sounds good, cause you can really focus on them.
Jackson Morgan
>Yeah, you DO have to wade through alot of shit to get to the gems, but I'd rather have 100 good games out of 10,000 than 10 games out of 100
Steam seriously needs to get fucking proper curation already.
I really hope the Nintendo Switch is good at supporting great indies. God knows they need it.
Gabriel Howard
I think digital is changing the gaming landscape for the better.
Because of shipping a game had like a 3 week window, and that was it. But now thanks to digital a bit of the money always goes to the developers for each copy sold. It has made long term sales suddenly matter, which I think is great.
Gavin Taylor
I think gaming has it's highs and lows and right now we are at a very low low.
Zachary Adams
Games are more homogenized and there's less risk-taking and creativity in the industry. Nobody tries to get the player to learn a new gameplay system, they just use what's common and familiar.
Jason Perry
No, but indies have evolved beyond basic pixelshit and smaller games are getting physical releases again. So it's not all bad.
Remember when EA published Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Brutal Legend, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Saboteur and Skate 2 in the span of two years? Times sure have changed.
Aaron Reed
>Games are more homogenized and there's less risk-taking and creativity in the industry.
I think this is what's ultimately causing the incoming crash. Or at least it's going to be only a very select few AAA games left.
Either all the normies buy your game (Overwatch) or none of them do (Battleborn). The internet has caused a sort of herd mentality which makes AAA games extremely fucking high risk high reward.
The AAA game gamble has just gotten so insanely out of control that only the biggest of publishers can now engage in it. And even THEN, a demographic can completely turn on you, like what is now happening with Call of Duty.
Hudson Robinson
No but im lowering my standarts and find myself enjoying more and more games.
Ian Anderson
Fuck no. It's worse than ever
Jordan Gray
Look at early next year's release schedule and tell me things aren't still pretty good.
Juan Watson
I'm glad Japan seems to be finding it's niche again.
It was kind of sad a few years ago when it felt like a lot japs were desperately trying to chase western games success. But I think Team Ninja going from Ninja Gaiden 3 to Ni-Oh shows that they are learning.
God Ninja Gaiden 3 was so fucking bad. Not even Razor's Edge could save it.
Robert Taylor
>Shenmue III >Nier 2 >Dragon Quest XI >Mount & Blade 2 >Ace Combat 7 >Persona 5 >System Shock Not that bad desu. Feels like some things are being made which seemed impossible 5 years ago.
Hunter Jones
Gaming is getting worse but that makes gaming better because each year brings fewer and fewer games worth adding to my already too huge backlog.
Sebastian Howard
yes, even the start of next year looks great
Gavin Butler
I think you just kind of have to accept that retail gaming is dying.
I think if you're looking at gaming as it used to be, yeah then of course shit will seem worse than ever. But look at how much digital games have improved over the last few years, we are seeing more and more in-depth indies and smaller games thanks to modern game engines; it's chaos now, but it's slowly forming into the new gaming scene. I know people will hate me for saying this; but I seriously think games like the new Hitman is going to be the future of a lot of video games moving forward. Not necessarily episodic games, but games with heavy post-release content that you keep coming back to.
The sooner we let go of the 60 dollar shelf game, the sooner we can move forward.
Gabriel Mitchell
I would like this to be true but the industry crushed my last shreds of optimism years ago.
Jaxon Moore
>2016 had almost nothing that interested me. >2017 Q1 has RE7, Ni-Oh, Nier, Yakuza, Digimon.
