The Last Guardian

Calling it now- in the future this will get the appreciation and praise it deserves and will be remembered as one of the best games ever. Team Ico never make games remembered in the year it came out but make memorable games that will continue to be talked about.

8/10 I love it. if it wasn't for the camera and the wonky controls I would give it a 10/10

Too bad some people can't appreciate a good game when they have it in their hands. I personally don't care what Sup Forums thinks, I still love it.
SotC>TLG>ICO

I'd agree. Personally, I didn't even have that much of an issue with the controls aside from climbing Trico at times. I looked at examples of this and can see where people come from with these complaints but I seriously didn't have these problems happen to me. I only had a problem with the camera at times and even then it was tolerable and not game breaking. Same with frame rate. I played it with the patch so maybe it helped idk. All in all, I would rate it 9 or 10.
I like this as much as Ico, but I would still say I prefer Ico cause Yorda is just too cute.

Here on Sup Forums it will receive praise once it becomes the contrarian thing to do. Right now its not getting any praise, but the SECOND that anyone talks about it being a disappointment on a major site. Sup Forums will rise and defend the shit out of it.

I liked it a lot, even if it was a bit 7/10 mostly due to control frustration and Trico's AI being a dick. Webm I made for another thread fucking related.

How are the animations in TLG so damn good? People have a problem with the way the controls work but I seriously love the attention to detail and fluidity in the movement.

Ten years of improving on the animations from Ico and SotC.

0 threads on the last guardian 5 ffxv thread caps a day for ffxv what happened trico bros

>the part where Trico flies to the main tower
>camera goes into cinematic angle while flying
>lands on the edge as all the statues come out
>figure I can jump off when it lands
>I get hurled to my death while it was still doing the dramatic camera angle

Do you remember the second tower in that sequence where you had to shoot down the three glass eyes? Trico pushed me off that bridge THREE times. THREE.

this

The worst issues I experienced were mostly due to the glue hands that the kid has trying to grab onto everything. Dismounting Trico was the biggest hassle, but beyond that I never spent any time fighting with bad framerates or dealing with the camera.

I can understand that some people might've had some issues but I really don't get where the intense vitriol comes from against this game. Nothing made it unplayable or even lower than a 7/10 unless you just have bad taste.

I wish they made combat fun. SotC style Bosses would have been a nice addition. I get that they tried to show Trico as your protector and all, similar to how horned kid protects yorda and you're basically like yorda in those moments in TLG.

The AI didn't do anything wrong here.

Daily reminder that SotC, Ico, and TLG are all shitty "art" games with terrible gameplay.

You really do feel helpless in those encounters but once you get the hang of it, you can actually do some damage on your own. You'll never survive without Trico, but I was able to finish off a few guys myself. Easiest way is do run into them and do the shove command after you've draw them to a ledge. Once they hit the floor, leap down and rip their fucking head off. Truth is though by the time you've done two maybe three, Trico will have killed the rest.

>Trico moves out of the way at the end of a forced sequence where I'm supposed to finish by jumping onto Trico.

You mean, just like shitty movies that are panned at first, it will develop a cult classic status among people who think it's better than it is? Even SOTC was an average game. That isn't to say that average games aren't fun or enjoyable, but they have their flaws.

Yeah I did that and desu it was satisfying and funny at the same time to see them trying to wriggle free when you rip their heads off.

baka desu sempai

But you angle your jumps, and you angled it poorly, even if he didn't move you weren't going to land on him.

>I'm not bad at platforming! The game is just shit!

Why'd you buy it if you aren't even good at basic mechanics?

Even though I loved it, I disagree. Their previous two games are old as fuck now, they got a pass because of the generation they were released in, their problems were passable.

We are past the point where shitty controls and camera are excusable. Even in an open world engine like GTAV or any other survivalshit controls and camera are decent, TLG's are atrocious and the graphics, while having a great art style, are last gen.

It also draws too much from Ico and Shadow, both those were very unique in their approach, unlike TLG. Again, I really liked it, but I see it as a weaker version of the previous two games.

Trico probably stops waiting if you're really slow in some sequences.

>Thinking we're past the era of cameras clipping through walls and controls being unresponsive

You're joking right? What games have you been playing?

What exactly was your problem with the camera anyway? The best guess I have for the apparent "wonkiness" is when you angle the camera upwards and it unhinges from your character so that you can actually view the world around you. It's unsettling for the first 20 minutes but beyond that it becomes second nature and necessary to explore some levels without having your character model obscure your vision. During my entire playthrough I never experienced any unresponsive controls either, so I don't know what's up with that.

But still, please, point me at some "current gen" games that are what you deem to be up to par.

I can't fault TLG for its graphics. It was intended for the PS3. At this point, I'm just glad this game saw the light of day and let's be honest, what other game out there is like TLG? I would say it's pretty unique. I feel pretty bad for Ueda and his team for having spent 10 years on a game which ultimately didn't pay off in the bigger picture. I've never seen such mixed reactions for a game like this. I just hope he can deliver something special again in a shorter amount of time for real this time.

The boy auto grabs regardless. In fact getting him to not grab onto the fucking bird is a problem sometimes. He would've grabbed on fine had Trico not decided to fuck off.

Coming from someone who considers ICO and SotC 10/10 games, I truly don't understand how can anyone say this is of the same quality.

It's basically Uncharted: Ueda Edition, and it managed to disappoint me even though I reduced my expectations

What issues did you have with it compared to the previous titles?

Yeah right, this game sucked ass. It will go down in history as an example of flawed development and its poor resulting product.

At $20 yeah people will like it, but as a full game its a massive pile of shit.

Yeah maybe in 20 years the slideshow will probably end

>It's basically Uncharted: Ueda Edition
You're a special kind of retard

Is this because of the crumbling platforms sections? They weren't really like uncharted where it happens all the time. It only happens about 4 times maybe and even then, those sections were pretty cool. It's sorta like SotC where you have the calm pacing of riding your horse to the epic and intense fights with the colossi.

>tutorial button prompts annoying the player the whole way through
>worst AI I've ever seen in a videogame
>your game progression is dependant on said AI, if the beast doesn't want you to continue you won't
>lost the bleak and lonely atmosphere in favor of a childlike and classic tale (not bad per se but I was expecting a Team ICO game)
>very repetitive puzzles, most of them consist in pointing the right passage to Trico and letting it do his thing
>linear and scripted just like uncharted, sequences where your control over the kid is absent or partially limited

These mostly. Frame rate, camera and controls are not the best but they are not my biggest gripes with the game.

>Not calling Trico with R1 to ensure he's focusing on you before you jump on him.

That's like doing random trust falls and being upset that no one catches you. You literally jumped while he had his head turned away from you.

Reminder:

People hated SotC when it released for its poor controls, wonky horse AI, bad frame rate, and a shitty camera. So I can see The Last Guardian getting a similar level of reverence with time. I personally fucking loved it. Though I played it on the Pro, so in terms of performance I think I ca only recall the frame rate stuttering once and it only lasted for a solid 2 seconds.

I know it's still a problem, but it is past the point of it being excusable and so propagated. in TLG it is unwieldy as hell and if you're in tight spots good luck not getting disoriented. If you didnt notice the problems with it then I wonder what games you HAVENT played.

The boy controls are very clumsy, and you can say that of course it's clumsy, you play a kid, but after a while his movement becomes irritating and it's just not fun. there is a fine line to ride between animation priority and control and I think there was too much emphasis on animation, while it looks realistic it gets annoying (other games do this, Uncharted 4 for example) at many points during the game you walk over uneven rocky territory and broken archtitecture and the collision mixed with the weird animation and delay on the controls make for very jarring effects.

There are plenty of "creature and boy" games out there that have better mechanics and puzzles. and as for the graphics, I tend not to think about the technical aspects so much because the game still manages to be gorgeous, but the wonky camera sometimes puts me right up to a lowres texture and it breaks it for me (not all the time, mostly I'm just enjoying the art design, I spent alot of times just walking around looking at the vistas and Trico just hanging out)

look Anons, dont get me wrong, despite the many flaws this game has floored me just the same as Ico and Shadow did, but those games came out on an inferior console that had limitations, the ps4 is not a pc but it could definetly have supported a more finished and polished game. The transition hurt it a lot. And if you're not critical of the things you enjoy then you're just another mouthbreathing fanboy.

TL;DR I liked it but it had flaws and if you cant see that you're a fag.

>game will be good once nostalgia goggles are on
no thx

I agree.

Would you have waited another 5 years for them to rebuild it from scratch to get it fully optimised for ps4? If they did that, you all would have complained they are taking unnecessarily too long on it. TLG had problems in its development because it was far too ambitious for PS3, and SotC was far too ambitious for PS2 in the time. What are those games you mention?

does team ico make sleeper hits on purpose?

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE

user, I hate to burst your bubble, but TLG is a ps3 game ported to ps4.

I know. When did I imply that that wasn't the case?

I played and finished it and my only complaint is that the framerate sucks on my plebstation 4.
Easily my favorite game of this year and one of the only games that have got me this emotional over a video game character. No companion in a video game has ever come anywhere close to being as good as Trico, and he doesn't even talk.

>would you have waited another 5 years

Why not? I already waited a goddamned decade to get an unpolished but good game.

I hope that future is when Im already dead, and I don't have to hear praise of such a shitty game.

yeah, 2deep4u "video games are art" morons like OP will jerk over it for decades

maybe in a future where SoC and Ico never existed

>Lost the bleak and lonely atmosphere

Yeah except
>Just you and a mysterious beast wandering through desolate ruins inside a giant pit
>You find out you've been feeding dead little boys to the mysterious beast throughout the whole game
>After everything youve gone through, you and the beast are ripped away from each other forever

Just because they both lived, doesn't mean it's not bleak.

It's already getting the appreciation and praise it deserves

This. I'm glad Fumito didn't go the obvious route and kill Trico and/or the boy. It wasn't as horrifically depressing as SotC's ending, but I'm glad it at least subverted my expectations.

You're right, and don't listen to Sup Forums, they're moronic and like to disagree with other people

Well, it gets the neogaf seal of approval.

It's not about what the story tells. ICO and SotC had an ominous feel throughout the game, here I didn't feel any of it.
