Why is Rome Total War the best Total War, Sup Forums?

...

Sup Forums?

Medieval is actually the best one.

FotS is best TW

Your webm shows perfectly why Shogun 2 is still better. Lategame FotS is sitting on a hill and waiting until the enemy army dies from artillery.

It is not, we had this point here repeatedly, which you probably know, because you are most likely the same faggot who made those threads as well.

>CA picked Japan over China

such a huge wasted opportunity

They appealed to weebs. Always a financial success

>we

If they had picked China they would have pulled another Empire. Too large.

Because China is shit and sengoku jidai is far more interesting than gook fantasy

The focus on unique units and tactics giving large advantages. Good units were actually good and shit units were properly shit.
Medieval 2 made unit amount the most important factor. Suddenly flanking does shit, units fight to the death all the time. Surround, shower with missiles while surrounded, doesn't fucking matter, you'll lose half your army of elite units fighting this other army of cheap decent units.

Try it, you can win any game in the series since then by fielding a decent but cheap army, and they'll beat any elite units fielded against you. Shogun 2, Oda, drown them in ashigaru, can't lose. Cheap and good. Medieval 2, Milan, militia crossbowmen, only thing you'll need, cheap but good.
So what do we end up with? A game about fielding big armies of uninteresting units where unique units aren't good enough to justify their cost.

This. They've never handled the 3d campaign map well. Although I prefer original Shogun just because my autism gets rustled from seeing medieval feudal states conquer and hold huge swaths of Europe. Whereas Japan reunifying is normal and acceptable goal.

My perfect Total war would just be Crusader Kings where every time your armies met or assaulted a castle it would have a normal total war style battle.

>shit graphics
>all the men look the same
>pre-m2 interface

Into the trash it goes. Empire is the best TW.

One day I hope they'll do 3 Kingdoms period. But fuck the people who want Asia: Total War. Asia is not Europe, you don't have a bunch of small nations competing for hegemony. East Asian history is completely dominated by China and unless CA went full retard to appease these idiots the game would just be China simulator as you bribed, staged coups and sometimes invaded your neighbor to keep them down and maintain hegemony and peace in Asia. Which might actually be fun in itself but not if your trying to play Vietnam or Korea. Basically pre-industrial East Asian politics is antithetical to Total War's gameplay.

fucking pleb

I thought this shit doesnt happen anymore in Warhammer. A single elite unit can rout half an army of peasant easily

Warhammer is great because of it. Suddenly the unique units are unique, no muddled realism in the way anymore.

Attila is the best Total War they've made, objectively.

Personal favourite is subjective preference

Play Shogun in Medieval so you get the improved mechanics. There's a mod for it. Or you can play in Glorious achievement mode.

Chinese history is gay as fuck. Nobody other than the Chinese cares about it.

what mod?

Invasio Barbarorum SAI

Attila has a lot of design flaws like the army limit system, navies being unable to block land armies from crossing straits, and some other retarded campaign logic. It's still a much better game than Warhammer mechanically at least. Medieval is still the peak when it comes to mechanics and it holds up great because of that. It's sad the new games miss even the basics like push/pull mechanics.

Looks like Invasio Barbarorum

thanks

heavily underrated, much better than weeb history

Weeb history isn't that great either, but at least they have the Meiji Restoration which is really quite interesting.

>I get my history knowledge from vidya

kys

Post reeks of someone who has no idea what they're talking about. Heavy cavalry dominates the entire game in Medieval 2 not peasant infantry. Rome had a retardedly fast battle speed by default so the disparity between weak and strong units is more obvious. Hammer and anvil is always the best tactic for RTW because anything else cannot be executed in time without units routing.

Dark Omen is the best

>Heavy cavalry dominates the entire game in Medieval 2 not peasant infantry.
No shit they're better units in combat, that isn't the point. A stack of that army is going to cost you the same as 4 stacks of the other along with dedicating a city to the Castle development tree, and take you much longer to build, while putting out the performance of 2 stacks at most.

So economically, you've lost massively out on producing your great cavalry units. You're fielding less force than you could, and earning less than you should.

>not shadow of the horned rat

I agree actually

I havn't played it thoughtfully yet
