Super mario world vs. Mario bros 3

Super Mario World looks better

Super Mario Bros. 3 plays better.

Substitute the feather for a leaf and Super Mario World would be superior.

I prefer World just because of the multiple exits/paths thing.
As a kid figuring out all the exits was really fun.

SMB3. It's no contest, really. SMB3 is much more action & platforming focused of the two and it shows. Meanwhile World is more gimmicky with things like Yoshi, balloon Mario, and other items. The secret exits were not as cool as the myriad of secrets in SMB3.

world is casuals. yoshi is like training wheels, and you can fly across almost any level with cape

also its got no desert or ice levels

I find the nes physics to be much more enjoyable. I like that it's faster with more focus on platforming. SMW feels slow and just a tad clunky in comparison. That said I don't really think there's a wrong opinion when it comes to which you prefer

My nostalgia says World, but I honestly do think 3 is better the more time goes on.

Mario World, no fucking contest. Sonic 2 as well as 3 & Knuckles are fine games, but they cannot stack up to Mario 3 or World.

Obviously the only correct answer for best 2D mario game is New Super Mario Bros U+ NSLU

Mario 3 obviously. World sucks cause you win just by grinding top secret area. It's also just way too easy. Mario 3 is harder and harder to exploit, and the overworld is actually a part of the game instead of just a list of chores to complete for no reason. Shorter levels with no checkpoints was a really elegant design decision as well. Raccoon tail was much less broken than the cape, still overpowered. Best 2 player mode in the series too, thanks to sharing progress on the overworld. My least favorite thing about it is actually the airships, I know everyone loves them, but I hate autoscrolling levels. As far as autoscrollers go though, they're pretty good. I always loved castle levels so I dont like that they got downgraded to miniboss status thanks to the airships.

World 1 is an unfinished unpolished mess of a game. The real question is smb3 or smw2.

Yoshi's Island is far, far too easy for the praise it gets. Yes, even when not getting hit to keep the 30 points or gathering flowers etc. The game only ever gets challenging in the secret stages from collecting 100 points in each regular stage. Those levels are fun as hell for sure.
