Still looks like shit.

I get what they're going for but I prefer the cleaner look in the right

Oh well.

>all the heavily shilled kikestarter games end up looking like shit

Is anyone actually surprised?

>without procedural generation
>candles are small as shit

What? Wouldn't that mean they were done so on purpose, by hand?

Whatever, I get what they're trying to do here, I wouldn't call this procedurally generated though, more something like procedurally altered assets or something.

Have there been any non-disapointing Kickstarters delivered in the past couple years?

Shantae-fags not welcome

really though i can't see a difference

skullgirls and divekick were decent

I don't see what the problem is honestly. The levels themselves aren't procedurally generated, just shit like the grime and debris and clouds swooshing in the background. It's kinda cool desu.

Shovel Knight, Giana sisters, Valdis Story, Divinity OS, Darkest Dungeon, Knock Knock

Shovel Knight

Lab Zero are a bunch of hacks.

On high alert now. Procedurally generated backgrounds are acceptable I guess but the moment I hear ANYTHING about level design, game is hard dropped and beyond salvation.

I think there are times when something like the left suits the enviornment more and something like the right does. Ideally there'd be a mix of both - the image is likely just a tech demo.

>first mighty no. 9
>then shantae
>now bloodstained

I can't trust kickstarter anymore.

No, seriously, what is even wrong with this announcement? Their artists aren't gonna spend a gorillion years placing every little piece of debris and chips in a painting in the perfect spots and they can focus more on the actual level design? Damn man.

>Their artists aren't gonna spend a gorillion years placing every little piece of debris and chips in a painting
then they should fire them and get new artists.

Dont forget the faggots who are making a MLP fighting game.

Cuz that won't take a lot of time they shouldn't be wasting, right? If they did fire them and got new people to go through every background detail with a fine-toothed comb you'd be bitching they're wasting time on pointless shit and should focus on the level designs.

thats pretty cool

Salty MN9 fag detected

Shantae wouldn't do that, she'd gently throw his corpse in a trash compactor

Never owned nor ever will own a business confirmed.

>muh jewish practices are universal

What's even jewish about what they're doing?

trying to get around making quality environments by using a program to make a shitty half-assed attempt.

It's just procedurally generated visuals, nothing much.
From the OP i expected something much worse, like procedurally generated levels, but hey, it's Sup Forums, people used to overreact to stuff around here.

>a shitty half-assed attempt.

Looks pretty good so far.

lamo

>I can't trust kickstarter anymore.

You shouldn't. It's just a funding mechanism.

>>first mighty no. 9

MN9 was a blunder because Inafune is a fucking Con Man coasting on other people's hard work. He's never been more than a minor producer and minor artist. He never created anything. People were fools for trusting him and his promises.

>>then shantae

None of the Shantae games were game changers. They are professional games, and kinda okay to fun. That's all anyone expects from them. If you expected more from Wayforward or Shantae you were delusional and had expectations way too high.

Can't wait to have the backgrounds glitching the fuck out or looking out of place.

Someone edit this to say

>Here lies Beck. He's better than nothing.

I don't think every backrground detail is randomly generated every time you walk into a room, I think it's they're randomly generating the debris and grime and stuff and then sticking with a version they like which takes WAY less time.

Correct. Fans are retards and over reacting. They hear "procedurally generated" and they hear Nu-Male Sky again.

The PSP Castlevania looks better than this garbage.

Good Crowd Sourced games (I should make a chart):

1. Shovel Knight
2. Dreadout
3. Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero
4. Valdis Story

What else? Only include released games that are okay to great.

If you're referring to Dracula X Chronicles, no it doesn't, you need to go back and actually play it.

>going with that horrid color scheme where neon purple is the main color

Anime art style is the worst. Should have been darker colors scheme of castlevanias.

>Losing your voice from a cold

The people in portraits are backers btw. Looks way better than MN9's, which stood out so badly. These blend in.

> 4 hour linear game

> have to buy DLC to make it complete

You don't get to be cocky anymore fucko

It's not like Iga's games really have good level design.

>Good
>okay

Make up your mind

>3 hour game
>65 dollar price tag

This fucking bullshit. Kitamura needs to make his games longer if he expects me to fork over money for this shit.

So where does it say that Shantae is only 4 hours?

Castlevania games aren't super long either

HGH is out for backers.

Seriously overhyped game, Pirates Curse is better.

Still longer than that.

You could beat Pirate Curse in under 4 hours.

I agree with this.
This is a smart use of technology that will help keep the game's budget in check and on schedule. I feel as though IGA simply was unaware of the connotation that the phrase he chose carries over here especially as applied to a genre where thoughtful level design and map-making is as paramount as Metroidvanias and specifically IGA's games.

>user again confuses Producers and give them credit for the quality of the game again.

>he needs more than 4 hours to beat a Castlevania
casual

I assumed they were devs. These aren't so bad.

Okay

I have RR, PC, and HGH.
I like them all and Half Genie Hero is super polished and fun.
I'm like 4 hours in or so and I'm nowhere near finished.

Yeah but they are deeper than a puddle.

HGH isn't.

MN9's for comparison.

>everyone looks like a neckbeard.

lol bullshit, the game is literally just a series of linear platforming stages.

Either retarded casual or lieing.

Are they going to procedurally generate a better fucking skirt? I looks like shit how it's almost parallel to the ground

youtu.be/EMjVQulD4qY

Maybe next game they'll actually be able to get Ayame Kojime to do the character designs. I don't hate the designs but they could be a lot better.

Pretty much every developer uses stuff like this nowadays. Its not like the entire game is generated, boy would that suck...

Well you still can backtrack to get hidden stuff with new abilities. So instead of Castlevania it's more akin to Megaman in that way.

So...Shovel Knight just with the DLC having a price tag?

Shantaefags wish their game was as good.

What is this supposed to mean? Is it good?

What if I actually enjoy both for their own merit?

I want a full list of actually good kickstarter games. Because from what Sup Forums tells me it seems like there is over a 90% blunder rate when it comes to kickstarter.

Shovel knight had high production value (which is to be expected with the whole free money from kickstarter thing) but the game was pretty shit

I think that looks alright, excluding the path itself.

I wouldn't call it shit, but hoo boy did it take Plague of Shadows for it to actually be good.

>game was pretty shit

lol sure user

You're going to have to accept some tradeoffs with 3D from a small studio on a budget. This isn't an Atelier title.

Even Konami couldn't handle Maria's roomy dress and free-flowing hair locks when they tried to making a RoB polygonal port.

I actually hated the platforming in Plague of Shadows but liked the story more, I think Shovel Knight was a lot less frustrating to play as.

>Pants

SOILED

Visual differences are placed onto objects for visual variance via an algorithm instead of by hand.
It doesn't really mean much, and absolutely zero to gameplay.

>
Maybe next game they'll actually be able to get Ayame Kojime to do the character designs. I don't hate the designs but they could be a lot better.

Probably. She did volunteer some artwork for project, and I'm sure IGA would have hired up from the start if he had known ahead of time how successful his funding drive would be.

His blog post did reiterate how they lightened up the foreground as he was seeing player-environmental visibility issues during playtesting though.

Well, that's good. I don't really enjoy these behind-the-scenes looks much because I prefer everything to be a surprise when I play the game.

Apparently she wasn't on the project because she was busy with other work. If she had the availability she'd have loved to work on Bloodstained.

It's not just any cold, it's a Japanese cold. Those things are fatal, you know.

>those graphics

This looks like some obviously fake game you'd see some kid on a TV show playing because they couldn't be assed to get the rights to show a real one.

No, just someone who buys games to do more than jerkoff to the character portraits.

Yeah. The settings are right in her wheelhouse.

Sup Forums is a terribad source

...

The fuck, Shantae was fine, dude.

>I can't trust kickstarter anymore.
You fucking never should have in the first place.

Buy the game when it comes out if you are interested and if you think it looks good/fun, don't fucking pay for a product you know nothing about before it's even produced.

Jesus christ you think this would be the simplest thing for people to grasp but no one seems to understand

Who cares, as long as IGA is cucking Konami?

This is a common thing, and I have no idea why people were freaking out when they heard procedurally generated. No Man's Sky is to blame, I bet.
Procedural generation is used a lot in finer detail, even in 3D animations. This is correct usage and will help them save a lot of work and time.

>Inafune will be homeless in a few years
>Iga will be a CEO

Who's the better businessman now?

But the Kickstarter goodies you get.
It can be good, it can be bad. So far, it has been proven to be 50/50.
I've been happy with Shovel Knight and Shantae, but horribly disapointed with MN9 and A Hat in Time.
You should expect failure to possibly happen, but don't complain if it does.

>Have there been any non-disapointing Kickstarters delivered in the past couple years?

Dreadout.

They asked for so little people forgot it's a crowd funded game.

Eeeeehhh

It's okay

for 30k its god damn amazing. Best horror game I've played in years. There's been a real drout of good ones. Just those shitty cookie cutter first person horrors.

yeah, but the game's utter trash.

>You should expect failure to possibly happen, but don't complain if it does.
>don't complain
>Sup Forums

>But the Kickstarter goodies you get.
Like what, your name in the credits, a copy of the game (which you can buy after), or a soundtrack (which you can also buy after)? Typically every kickstarter game offers the same shit, and none of the shit they offer as backer rewards are ever worth it. To get something really unique you'd have to pay way more than the game itself will ever cost.

Bloodstained as the example, you only get actual "rewards" at 60 dollars which is a fucking full price you're paying up front without ever seeing any gameplay whatsoever. Not worth it. Buy it when it actually comes out if you think it looks good.

Paying for something so far in advance on a chance is just retarded. Yes, I know games like Shovel Knight are good. But nothing is lost for waiting for it to come out before playing it.

>yeah, but the game's utter trash.

Nah, you're just a pleb.

If everyone held that opinion nothing would get funded.
