As it turns out the guy was playing a meme deck that is all about special summoning a fuckload of admittedly not all that great shit, and he opened really well to the point that he was able to do 35 special summons

Exodia doesn't need to hit the field to win or require a 3 tribute normal summon you absolute scrub.
