The problem with EQ was that anyone who played MU* games instantly recognized it as trying to be 'diku with graphics'.
And EQ was casual and simplistic compared to most MUDs.
Ian Gray
Nah, fuck this shit. You forgot to mention that due to unforgiving nature all normies will drop asap, and only the most autistic, obnoxious spergs will remain. They will form closed group, the nobility of acne, where they will circlejerk about some stuff no one gives a shit outside, and to achieve anything ingame you'll have to lick some autist's ass. And after game shuts down you'll get that circle wandering from game to game, where they will complain to EQ1 was pinnacle of MMO and how everything went to shit now.
I can't believe it's been 15 years since I was dicking around on Dark Age of Camelot after school.
Fucking kill me.
Joshua Kelly
i want to go back
Xavier Perry
>all normies will drop asap It's funny you say that because EQ was filled with normies when it came out. But back then, having an unforgiving/hard MMO was the standard
Angel Russell
Normies back then didn't even have internet
Aiden Perez
inc gnoll train
Asher Richardson
>Everquest >hardcore Nanisore It was first themepark and attracted casual nerds into genre >lol I have a chance to loot everything back even after dying, it's do hardcoreXD No, you faggot In real mmo like ultima people could loot your corpse, or fucking kill you and loot your corpse
Ian Lewis
Pre WoW MMO's worked because normies didn't have a choice, you learned the game or didn't play MMOs. Limitations are the key to innovation and all that.
Ethan Bell
Normies have always been around. Although it's not the full on invasion force we deal with today.
Evan Gomez
God damn, that nostalgia hits me hard every time I hear it.
Robert Campbell
Pre-WoW MMOs probably had combined population less than Nostalrius. Too bad that was enough to spawn nostalgic autist community.
Nathaniel Cooper
>In real mmo like ultima people could loot your corpse, or fucking kill you and loot your corpse but you could do this in EQ on pvp servers
Gavin Bennett
Most of "nostalgia"fags never played mmo back then in the first place This is why we have threads about "hardcore" Everquest
Mason Morales
>eq >pvp Bait?
Levi Rivera
hello?
Jacob Thomas
Real talk.
Any of you fags playing on p99? I keep hearing that the raid scene is cancer but how is it just for a casual player? I would love to just jump into a time machine and revisit the time when I played EQ in 2000.
Sebastian Walker
Main problem is MMOs of today barely have any sense of co-operation unless its forced down your throat through a queue system.
EQ1 and WOW used to be a bitch to solo through most of the game, some classes couldn't even solo at all past a point, this made it so you wanted to naturally group up and explore together, this also caused you to bond with other players as you shared loot and secrets.
Now all MMO multiplayer has to be forced, usually with a trinity based mechanic where you need someone to tank and someone to heal and someone to out damage a wipe timer, rather then just being so naturally challenging that you want to group up.
John Williams
yes, there were 2 pvp servers back when i played it. but eq's entire game design made pvp horrific.
Zachary Johnson
Having fun with Archeage 3.0 once you actually get ingame
Luis Russell
Its great if you want to time machine.
Isaiah Lewis
>EQ1 and WOW used to be a bitch to solo through most of the game, some classes couldn't even solo at all past a point It's a shitty system, because it renders some classes more useful than others. Actually the only MMO which got classes right is ff11 where single char can have multiple classes.
Asher Torres
Stop shilling, Archeage will never ever be good.
Chase Reed
And you still had to group up in FF11 for a lot of the content.
Ryder Morales
at least the classes that couldnt solo were the best in raids, where the best game experiences were
Gavin Stewart
SUPERIOR PRE WOW MMO COMING THROUGH
James Taylor
let me fix that last bullet point for ya
>classes haphazardly thrown together, few had useful roles, some classes were entirely irrelevant by end-game, literally only one viable choice for tanking or healing, another class existed solely for casting a single buff on everyone and then fucking off
EQ was absolute garbage, but we liked it anyway
Nolan Russell
I'm installing it now. I'm headed back to my roots as a dwarf cleric. I better find a guild quick because spamming smite is only going to get me so far.
Liam Roberts
Its really a problem with the polarizing effect of designing a static end game rather then a dynamic one.
Nathan Clark
>EQ was absolute garbage, but we liked it anyway That's funny because I say the samething about vanilla WoW. We must be masochists.
Charles Jones
Vanilla WoW was designed by a bunch of EQ veterans and lord did it show
Bentley Fisher
Yep, funny how WOW dropped numbers hard when said developers quit working on it.
Really makes you think.
Tigole was a pretty damn good developer though, for MMOs anyway.
