Do you believe in Chris Robert's dream?
Star Citizen thread
More like scam citizen amirite?
Oh I believe he has a DREAM all right.
I'm holding on. I want to see how 3.0 does, and how fun it is. If 3.0 is still boring, I think the game is screwed.
you mean his dream of exploiting the dumbest motherfuckers alive? yes, i believe in that.
i have bad news for you, user
I backed for SQ42 so yes.
2.6 is getting rolled into 3.0, which makes 3.0 the Jesus Patch. It will save the game.
>starm arine
>more ships

>procgen planets along with seamless space/atmospheric transitions
>first iteration of full universe economy simulation
>first iteration of amazing ai
Gon' B gud.
Eh, I've only spent $60 on it. Worst case scenario, it's shit, I'm said for a little while, and I go play E:D.
fuck of derp shart
When I last played in Sept. the game felt like it was 2 years from having basic promised features. Then I realized the game was already 5 years into development and made this face.
It isn't even a game yet. Five years in and it isn't even a fucking game yet. It's so bad, bare bones and void of any content that I've played 1 year old indie games with more going on.
>procedurally generated
What?
No, the 2.6 is coming out the 18th and it's not the 3.0
I have a friend who keeps screaming that this game is amazing and what everyone who questions it is just trolling.
Should I be worried?
I backed the original backing but haven't bought into the hype shit.
I'll patiently wait for Squadron 42, the psudo-MMO is just a bonus.
This game has a lot of fans, but a lot of naysayers too. The thing is, if CIG can't deliver, they've got 1.5mil people who backed the game who are gonna be real pissed. There's been a lot of delays, and so far we haven't gotten to play anything really cool, so of course many people don't believe in it. But I think it can happen. If they can really pull it off with 3.0, I think it can save the game.
jesus fucking christ, what do they eat.
>2.6 is coming out the 18th
you know that schedule was bullshit just to prop up their last sale, right?
t. brand management firm
The only thing that will make this game fail is a potentially shit netcode that can never be finished correctly.
If their netcode succeeds, then Star Citizen will be the end of all Sci-fi spaceship MMOs.
it's actually 3 years
Cause Chris Roberts is shit.
No more than the dickhead who made nomansky
The big problem with this perception of the game's development is that this game isn't your typical AAA published game.
If this was backed by EA we wouldn't have even heard of it until it was near done, at most we'd just get speculation that Chris Roberts was working on a new game, and thats it.
Its a double edged sword the way they've developed this game, by backing it through kickstarter and then providing a development cycle to the public rather then keeping shit internal until it was ready, the problem here is that they allowed feature creep to take over the game.
And honestly, I do like where the game is heading, but cry engine is a terrible engine and trying to make a game like this on it is the worst idea they could have done, and thats the big problem, but they've put too much time and resources into developing the game to the state its in now, they just need to finish wrestling cry engine into submission so we can get real content into the game.
>CryEngine is the problem
Hiring from the bottom of the industry's barrel is the main culprit.
They've recoded a massive amount of CryEngine, so much so that they basically have their own engine now. I think they're calling it StarEngine.
but what if the gameplay remains shit
The schedule is more estimations than anything. 2.6 probably won't be out by the 18th. But one can dream.
>it's actually 3 years
it also took them quite a while to build of the company from scratch and build/refine all of their content pipelines. they're really only been in full development mode for like a year, which is why what they've already managed to pull off is so amazing
backers (and non-backers, for that matter) have also shown time and again that they cannot handle open development
Why did Roberts say the game would be done in 2014 then? Was he lying, or is he just stupid?
Then Chris should die.
Just really stupid, and greedy for more $$$$$
name 1 game that lived up to its hype
Doom. GTA V. Portal 2. Borderlands 2. TW3. Dishonored 2. Man there are tons. You just don't know about it because nobody cares when a game expected to do a well does well. It's the failures that we love to point and laugh at for months to come.
I think it's something about the scope of the game expanding and insane amount because of how much money they raked in. That and Chris is clearly shit at estimating release dates.
I heard that they've wasted most of the funding on excessive advertising and celebrity voice actors plus Chris Roberts used company money to buy a mansion, and his wife who is a part of the development team is apparently a crazy bitch.
I haven't tried the game itself, I want it to be good but don't really trust the devs with my money. I feel this way about crowdfunding in general, it can be a good idea but you usually don't have a publisher to rein in the developers and make sure they are fiscally responsible. If it ends up being good I'll buy it.
>star network allowing 100+ players per instance
That sounds good, I was worried after what I heard about the game's instancing being small.
Right now the main cancer in this game is CryEngine's shit netcode. It makes the PU a fucking space slideshow. Once they get StarNet or whatever they're calling out it out in 3.0 I'll be playing the game a lot more. It's really tough to run as well.
I believed in freelancer, and he fucked that up, only to be saved by microsoft taking him out of management.
Chris Robert's after Origin has always fucked up. Starlancer turned out ok becuase his brother was responsible for that, not him.
>Scope of the game expanding
>Game doesn't even have basic fucking mechanics in 2016
2 years ago was he planning on releasing a slideshow?
Those procedural 3.0 planets look fucking lit man
I just want 2.6 to drop already so I can see 3.0 production schedule. Not that interested in Star Marine or Grim Hex bar.
