I think I want a fully developed The World MMO
its cool
I want to do things to Alkaid.
The World is a pretty mediocre game. The only reason it's so popular is because in-universe, it has a magical black box that has a hyper-immersion factor. Your subconscious actually believes it's real, and no other game is capable of replicating that. Obviously, a magic program like that doesn't exist in real life, so all you'd have is a mediocre MMO.
you're probably right, but even if it was underwhelming I'd associate this mediocre cookie cutter MMO and its characteristic classes/lore/style with my appreciation for the franchise as a whole
>.hack//The World won't be a thing in the new age of VR
The anime fascinated me, but the game bored me.
It's one of those "you play it for the story" games. Admittedly, the anime and the games are going for two different things. The anime is a character-driven story while the game is a lore-driven one. But that doesn't change the fact that the gameplay tends to be mediocre to ass.
So I'm watching .hack//SIGN for the first time and I'm pretty confused. I think my confusion really comes from not being able to suspend my disbelief with the show.
Are the crimson knights the actual moderators of the game? If so, why the fuck do they need to fight the main character to arrest him and not just email him a warning?
And whats up with the whole logging out issue with the main character? Can players not just take their headset on and off? They have to log out to actually leave the game?
>full body motion tracking is still years away
>when the very first virtual reality MMO hits the market we'll all be in our late 40s~50s
i was obsessed with it when it first came out. the anime and gaems.
these people take the role-playing aspect seriously, but just keep watching
Due to the nature of the game's immersion being literally code that the programmers dont fully understand, its possible that the moderators are given a low level of authority over the game's systems to prevent anyone from having too much power to tamper with the game's fragile balance.
The Crimson Knights is basically a hardcore RP guild filled with lawfags that eventually have been given some support by the MMO company itself, but not given actual admin rights.
You can take off your headset without logging off, your character will just stand there and not give any sort of response until you get back. Tsukasa is a special case where cybermancy happens and his consciousness is stolen and locked into the game.
The Crimson Knights are "moderator support". They're basically a volunteer group who assist in maintaining "order". It's basically just roleplay, but they take their role very seriously. A lot of players consider them to be a pain in the ass, though a couple of weaker players do appreciate their efforts. P.K. was fairly rampant in The World prior to the formation of the Crimson Knights.
The actual system moderators are too busy dealing with the consequences of the creator's blackbox, like vagrant A.I.s, so they don't really have the time to deal with something as petty as minor character disputes. The Crimson Knights are basically a convenient way for the actual mods to let the players take care of their own issues. In exchange, the moderators give the Crimson Knights a few special privileges that normal players don't normally have.
How does PKing work in the world? Does it reset your levels or something? Did it prevent people from keeping equipment or exploring dungeons?
>Tsukasa is a special case where cybermancy happens and his consciousness is stolen and locked into the game.
What would happen if there was a power outage where the servers are?
The World uses a save system. If you die before you can save, you're reset to your previous save. So if you spent an hour exploring a dungeon, leveling up and collecting levels, and then you get killed, you get nothing.
They'd become vegetables. It's actually a major issue that the protagonists of the games have to deal with.
Blackrose gave me too many boners.
I really enjoyed the dungeon crawling, but you gotta be able to stand the excessive repetition.
Thinkin about emulating them. Should I do original or GU?
do the originals first, they're a little more barebones but straightforward, GU is good too but has a very different feel and tone to it (set much later in the storyline)
>Sword Art Online will be a thing in the new age of vr instead
>talking simulators
Chronological order is the only way to go. Watch each OVA for Liminality after each game in IMOQ. If you want the (somewhat) full experience, watch SIGN first, then play IMOQ, then watch Roots (it's shit), then play G.U.
>talking simulator
This isn't a WRPG like Daggerfall or Wizardry 8, user. Now those two are true talking simulators.
>like tear drops in the rain
New game literally never
Yeah but we'd still have the godlike OST, sweet lore, comfy as fuck towns, and cool character customization
The World's character customization seems to be pretty limited considering how many PCs have similar models. Though I suppose it can't be worse than that of any other MMO.
Every character kind of had the same look with the face markings and fit the same style but they all looked pretty unique
Don't recommend for people to watch Roots, yo.
Actual GU spoiler here, be careful.
It spoils that Ovan is Tri-edge. Plus the game fills you in on enough stuff anyway.
Is the third GU worth it?
Feels like the second game sort of blew it's load too early.
i regret not having a ps2 and playing them
The games on the ps2 were okay.
Thought it was pretty stupid how they never made it into a real MMO
