Whats the deal with DaS2 difficulty? Finished DaS1 already and I'm 11 hours in DaS2, and looks like while regular enemies are way harder than DaS1 enemies, the bosses themselves are surprisingly easy.
Beaten the the Last Giant, Dragonrider, and the Flexile Sentry on my first try, and the Old Dragonslayer on my second. On the other hand, regular mobs are a bit tougher to kill.
Completely different design philosophy than the other Soulsborne games. Most people prefer the other way of doing it, but DaSII is objectively speaking not that worse than DaS, just very differently designed.
Connor Jones
The deal is that the first souls game you play is always the hardest.
Angel Sullivan
Both games are about the same when it comes to difficulty. There are two types of enemies in Dark Souls: enemies with literally no poise, and enemies with seemingly infinite poise. DS2 just might have a bit more of the latter, that why it might seem harder. As for the bosses, DS1 bosses really are not that hard. You just think that way because it was your first Souls game (I assume). If/when you replay the first game you'll realize that. As for DS2, it just has a lot of bosses, so quite a few of them are little more than glorified mini-bosses, which you'll encounter as normal enemies some time later. Like Taurus and Capra in the first game.
Leo King
the next boss you'll fight is harder than the ones you listed (Ruin Sentinels)
the DLC bosses are harder than anything in DS1 too
Jace Russell
the first few bosses are designed with the idea in mind that you might not yet have enough i-frames to reliably dodge or have a reliable shield.
Joseph Wood
Probably thats whats happening.
What about DaS3? Generally harder than DaS1 and 2? Closer to which one in overall design?
Lucas Harris
the NPCs are the biggest offenders as they seem to have infinite stamina.
After that it's the insanely annoying mobs with either fucked up movesets (Heide knight) or insane enemy placement (Shrine of Amana).
This game really hates Souls fans coming in from DaS and expecting to accurately parry, have enough roll i-frames or poise through attacks easily.
This series is a good analysis of what makes DaS2 so different from the other souls games.
Logan Evans
imo, it's more balanced and enemy placement doesn't fuck you up. But some of the bosses are genuinely hard (mostly NK, Dancer and Pontiff)
Grayson Kelly
Don't know about anyone else but personally 3 was the easiest for me considering I had played all the other entries already, and a higher percentage of the bosses were glorified puzzles.
Cooper Nguyen
the entire concept of lowering your total health was very poorly thought out
good players: doesn't affect them good players making lots of mistakes: doesn't affect them newbies: you are guaranteed to lose maximum health
why do this? why not just make the monsters hit twice as hard?
amateur hour shit, I have to respect the developers to enjoy a game
it was still a good souls game but god that one design flaw was irritating
Blake Martinez
DaS3 is built using Bloodborne's engine, which in turn is built upon the foundation of Das1's engine. They all feel like the same game, while DaS2 feels completely different in almost all aspects.
Caleb Myers
imo every single souls game (demon's souls too) has a SIMILAR difficulty. they obviously have their ups and downs but i think they average out to being the same.
it is absolutely true though that you'll struggle much harder with the first game you play. they're all mechanically similar games and once you learn one of them the rest are easy.
Samuel Hughes
I'd say DS3 is waaay easier than both previous games. It gives you DS1 fastroll tier iframes on dodges, combined with DS2 70% equipment load fastroll threshold, without any of the downsides AND it barely costs any stamina like in BB. So I personally killed almost all bosses in that game on my first try. The few that I did not though are way faster and more aggressive than anything you encountered in the first two games.
Joseph Wood
same with losing souls staying in part of your soul memory
it ONLY fucks over shit players
Jaxon Phillips
I just got to them 10 minutes ago. Got killed and rage quitted for now.
I believe i'm paying more attention to stamina in DaS2 than I was in the first one. Combat looks more tactical and shit
Noice, I'm going to get 3 in the christmas sale so I felt like rushing DaS2 til then. I wasnt even gonna play it, but it ended up looking nice after that shitty forest of Giants beginning.
Juan Ross
>why do this? why not just make the monsters hit twice as hard? Thankfully you will never be a game designer.
Elijah Lewis
DS3 bosses punish rolls a lot, especially Gundyr 2.0 and NK.
Juan Howard
so you rage quitted 5 minutes after making this thread about how easy you're finding the game? lol
Luis James
thankfully you will never apply critical thought anywhere but Sup Forums
the point being made was that both options would have been bad
I explained it to you, so that you dont continue feeling bad about yourself
Kevin Hughes
>rushing DaS2 Don't. Just play it at your own pace. DS2 is probably the largest Souls game too, so it has more mandatory and optional content. You should definitely play through the DLCs, since they're a highlight of the game. It's not like you'd be rushing to play DS3 on release day or anything. Take your time.
Jeremiah Perry
I did it more in relation to the other bosses, which were really easy. Those sentinels looked okay, not 10 minutes then, more like 20
Nolan Harris
The Champ punishes everything and everyone. He is an unrelenting machine of destruction. NK does have slow swings that punish panic rolling.
Nicholas Bell
Got the regular DaS2 without DLCs since I was tight on my wallet when I got it. Maybe i'll get the upgrade version thing from Steam next sale. As in rushing I mean complete in less than one month, since I took like 4 months on my "first regular" DaS1 run.
James Ward
DaS2 is easymode once you learn how much better lifegems are than estus
Daniel Martinez
Im spending all my souls on that shit
Bentley Flores
All these bosses are extremely easy, they are from the two areas accessible from the start. They are basically the Taurus Demons of DS2. After that it gets harder.
Angel Harris
DS3 is much harder. Enemies attack so fast and are so aggressive shields are literally useless. I played DS1 and 2 safely behind a greatshield, I had to git gud and go 2-handed.
In overall design, it's the worst, it's completely linear and much shorter.
Wyatt Kelly
>most enemies come in packs >they have near infinite stamina >large amount of traps and ambushes >rolling feels clunky till you raise your ADP
I've played DaS1 (and DeS beforehand) and DaS2 still gave me a lot of trouble, I ended up quitting the game in Iron Keep because every zone felt like a chore to get through.
William Perry
Wow, wheres your style, kiddo? This guy looks like shit. >katana in one hand >shield in another Holy fuck, how disrespectful are you?
Luis Gray
I lack imagination and also have horrid taste
pic related, my DaS1 character
Isaiah Walker
Overall world design and connectivity might be the worst, but the individual levels have phenomenal level design.
Juan Peterson
Well, being fast paced will probably be a good thing for me. Pacing in DaS1 was nice, in DaS2 it feels kinda slow.
